Hirogen Lock Box FAQ 01-29-2014 until 12-31-2099
Q: When will the Hirogen Lock Box be available?
The Hirogen Lock Box will appear around 10:00 a.m. PST on Thursday, January 30, 2014. Actual times may vary by a few hours depending on maintenance schedules.

Q: How can I acquire a Hirogen Lock Box?
The easiest way is to simply play the game. The Lock Boxes are dropping as loot in both ground and space game play. Another way to get them is from the in-game auction house or by trading with other players. Finally, they can be found in the Dilithium Store for purchase using Refined Dilithium.

Q: Since these are dropping as loot, does this mean I'm missing out on other loot I could be getting?
No. Any Lock Boxes that drop as loot are in addition to any other loot that might be dropped. You will get them in addition to other loot, not instead of other loot.

Q: Are there any special places where the boxes drop more or less frequently?
The Lock Boxes have a fixed drop rate that applies to any region where combat may take place. Special events may be announced at a later date that could allow for increased drop rates or offer Lock Boxes as rewards for completing specific content. Lock Boxes do not drop during missions created using The Foundry.

Q: How do I open a Hirogen Lock Box?
Right click on the Lock Box in your inventory and select "Use," or double click.

Q: Why does it say that I need a Master Key?
If you attempt to open a Lock Box and you do not have a Master Key, you will get a message informing you that you need a Master Key. If you have at least one Master Key when you open a Lock Box, it will consume one (and only one) of the Master Keys as part of opening the box.

Q: Where can I get a Master Key?
Master Keys are for sale in the C-Store. You can purchase them for 125 Zen each, or buy a ten pack of keys for 1,125 Zen.

Q: What do I get when I open a Hirogen Lock Box?
You will randomly receive ONE of the items from the following list:

  • Hirogen Hunter Heavy Escort: Complete information for this vessel can be found in this Dev Blog:
  • Salvaged Starship Console: Players of any faction will find a new unique Universal Console which can be fitted on any starship in any console slot. This console is called an Alpha Deception Field and enables any starship to "play dead" while appearing to drop valuable loot. The "loot" is actually a trap that will ensnare enemies that get close.
  • *NEW! Mirror Universe Ship Pack: Instead of revisiting Mirror Ships that had been previously offered, we've created an entirely new selection of ship variants for this Lock Box. Federation players will receive a Heavy Cruiser Retrofit variant. Klingon Empire players will receive a variant of the Negh'Var Heavy Battlecruiser. Romulan Republic players will receive a Dehlan Warbird Retrofit variant. Each of these ship variants have Bridge Officer seating and console slotting that differs from their Prime Universe lookalikes. All Mirror Universe Vessels are capable of using new registry prefixes, and come with unique ship material unlocks. Complete information for these vessels can be found in this Dev Blog:
  • Genetic Resequencer: Four trait packs can be obtained, each with a new Ground or Space Trait included. Captains may only open each package once, and each pack includes one free Trait Respec Token along with the associated Trait Unlock.
    • The Ground Traits now available are:
      • Hunter Instincts
        • Each time you are Flanked, you receive a short duration Dodge bonus.
      • Pack Leader
        • You and nearby teammates have an increased chance to Expose, and increased Expose duration.
    • The Space Traits now available are:
      • Intimidating Strikes
        • Your torpedo hits have a chance to Confuse your target for a short duration.
      • Hot Pursuit
        • All of your mines have their pursuit distance doubled.
  • Random Boost Packages: A random boost, which may be any of the following:
    • 25,000 Fleet Credit Bonus Pool
    • 5,000 Fleet Credit Bonus Pool
    • 10,000 CXP Bonus Pool
    • 2,000 CXP Bonus Pool
    • *NEW! 500 Reputation Mark Bonus Pool
    • *NEW! 100 Reputation Mark Bonus Pool
    • 100 Fleet Mark Bonus Pool
    • Dilithium Mining Claim Package: VIP Customer
    • Dilithium Mining Claim Package: Preferred Customer
  • Hirogen Hunter Duty Officers: These proud and skilled hunters are willing to submit themselves as able-bodied crewmen aboard vessels of Alpha Quadrant species, in return for the promise of glorious hunts yet to come. Each Hirogen Duty Officer possesses the Resolve Trait, as well as coming with all new Active Roster Abilities to enhance your ship's performance.
  • Destabilized Tetryon Weapon Crate: The blasts from Hirogen weaponry is known to cause long-term destabilization of the emitters used in shields and holographic projection, generating a drain-over-time effect in personal and starship shields. This unique energy signature also gives their weaponry a distinctly different visual appearance from standard Tetryon emissions. All weapons contained within these crates are of purple quality, and contain the special procs of Destabilized Tetryon weapons, in addition to other random modifiers. The Mark of weapon obtained from this pack is appropriate for your level, except for Vice Admirals and Brigadier Generals, who have a small chance of gaining Mk XII items from this pack.
  • *NEW! Gamma Quadrant Duty Officer Cadre: This duty officer cadre pack is the same size as the version previously available in the C-Store, and contains the same selection of species, specializations and trait variants. This full-sized doff pack will contain the same officer selection found in the now-retired C-Store pack [1 Blue-or-better, 2 Green-or-better, and 4 White-or-better Duty Officers], including the ability to contain bonus prizes during special Duty Officer promotions that affect this pack IF it is opened during that promotion.
  • Gamma Quadrant Duty Officer Mini-Pack: This duty officer cadre pack is slightly smaller than the version previously seen on the C-Store, but contains the same selection of species, specializations and trait variants. Within this pack will be one (1) Green-or-better Duty Officers, and three (3) White-or-better Duty Officers.
In addition to one of the above, every Lock Box contains a random amount of Lobi Crystals that can be traded in for additional prizes. Right Click on your Lobi Crystal and choose "Use" to access this vendor, or find him on Drozana Station to browse his wares.
Q: Does the Hirogen Lock Box contain the same amount of Lobi Crystals as previous boxes?
As of September 20th, 2012, all Lock Boxes (except the Holiday Gift Boxes from the Winter Event of 2011) use the same reward table for determining Lobi Crystal rewards. The minimum you will receive with every box is four (4) Lobi Crystals, although every box has a chance of rewarding you more than this amount.

Q: Has the Lobi Crystal vendor been updated with new offerings?
With each new Lock Box, new items are added to the existing stock available in the Lobi Crystal store. In addition to the items already available, players will be able to purchase any of the following new prizes if they have the correct number of Lobi Crystals:

  • Hirogen Apex Heavy Battlecruiser: Complete information for this vessel can be found in this Dev Blog:
  • Hirogen Space Set: This set is comprised of two weapons and a universal console, and can be equipped on any starship. Equipping multiple pieces will grant additional bonuses.
    • Long-Range Destabilized Tetryon Heavy Cannon: A 180-degree firing arc cannon which is capable of firing at targets up to 12.0km away.
    • Tethered Quantum Mine Launcher: The mines launched from this weapon will tether themselves to the user, following along until a valid target is found.
    • Console - Universal - Threat Analysis Matrix: This universal console increases Defense, Inertial Dampers Skill and Kinetic Damage Resistance Rating.
  • Hirogen Enhanced Battle Armor: This versatile armor offers strong resistance to Energy, Physical and Kinetic damage while dramatically increasing the wearer's maximum hitpoints. It also enhances the wearer's Expose Chance, Expose Duration and Exploit Damage. The armor also comes with an innate Toggle Power that enables Hunter Sight - no amount of Stealth can mask your prey while this mode is active. Purchasing this Armor item will also grant the buyer a customizable Tailor Unlock, allowing players to display the Hirogen Armor visual style even if they choose to not wear the armor itself.

Q: Will existing items on the Lobi Store be removed when this update occurs?
No. The above list of items is only being added to the existing inventory. All items currently on the Lobi Store will still be available when the above list of new items is added, with the exception of any Limited Time items which will expire under their own separate time frames.

Q: Where can I find this store?
The store is located on Drozana Station in the Neutral Zone, and is also accessible remotely from anywhere in the game by double-clicking or by right-clicking a Lobi Crystal in your Inventory and choosing "Use" from the menu.

Q: How will I know how to use the store?
A mission is available that will teach players how to use Lock Boxes, Keys and the new Lobi Crystals. Look for a Ferengi near the transporter rooms on Earth Spacedock and Qo'noS to get the mission. The mission is also available remotely through the Available tab in the Mission Journal. NOTE: This mission can only be completed once per Account.

Q: Are Lobi Crystals tradeable?
Lobi Crystals are not tradeable between players, but as of a recent update they can now be traded to other characters on your account via the Account Shared Bank. Additionally, most of the items in the store can be traded after they are purchased. Right-click on an item from the store interface to inspect its details, which will include information on whether or not it can be traded to other players.

Q: Will the Lobi Crystal Store go away after the Hirogen Lock Box event ends?
No. The Lobi Crystal Store will always be available as a way to trade your Lobi for special items. However, the items for sale will occasionally be updated.

Q: Will the items in the Lobi Crystal Store always be the same?
No. We will also occasionally offer additional items thru special events and limited-time discounts. Keep your eyes open for promotion announcements!

Q: What are the odds for getting each of the rewards in the Lock Box?
We are not providing exact numbers the prizes contained within the Hirogen Lock Box. The average value for a normal Lock Box is around 175 Zen.

Q: What are the specifications for the starships?
Specific statistics and details for any ships becoming available with the Hirogen Lock Box can be found here:

Q: Does getting any of the Hirogen or Mirror Universe starships unlock them for all of my characters?
No. These starships are special in that each one awarded can be "unpacked" onto only one character. Once unpacked on that character, it stays with that character. You cannot claim this ship for other characters on your account, nor can you reclaim it if you decommission the ship.

Q: Why does this ship work differently from others in the game?
We are using the Lock Box to release starships that normally could not be put into the game or the C-Store because it would not be IP appropriate to have them widely available. Rather than simply not have them in the game, we are using this alternate way to make something special available to the player base.

Q: Are you planning to change other ships to work this way?
No. For normal gameplay ships, we plan to stick with the account-wide unlock approach.

Q: Will these ships go into the C-Store later?
We are not currently planning to put any of these ships into the C-Store for direct sale. They will be available via the Hirogen Lock Box, and then no longer be available for some unknown period of time. We may decide to make it available again via a similar method in the future.
