View Full Version : Connection to account server timed out.

I installed STO today and I cannot connect in anyway.

Initially, the Launcher AutoUpdate would not connect. I closed this and launched directly from GameClient.exe.

However, when I attempt to log in I it says 'Connecting to account server....' and then times out. After reading the forums I ran Nettest.exe and it too times out before it does anything. So, I realise I am not reaching the servers in anyway.

I have opened all relevant ports (I know I don't have to), disabled my firewall and contacted my ISP - who assured me there was no problem.

I have played several MMOs before and haven't had any problems at all with my ISP, other than some minor latency during peak hours. At the moment, it is 2am so it is not a traffic issue.

I'm really gutted at not being able to play and help is appreciated. First time I've experienced any connection problems with anything :(

Disable any firewalls, and anti-virus software you might have. If you use norton or macafee products, uninstall them for trouble shooting purposes.

If you still cant access the patcher or servers, then you need to take a good look at your router.

Already did. Nothing wrong with my router, I have it configured fine. Been playing mmo's for years.

I am in the same position.

I loaded up today, during installation it asked me to set up my account so I did and then I used my retail code, all accepted ok.

I used the desktop icon to connect and the logon screen came up. I entered my info and submitted. It immediately error-ed and asked me to write what I was doing into an error log. Did that about 10 times, not sure what to do now.

Hi,

I do have exatly the same problem as well, even opened a two tickets regarding the issue, i got no response since 4 days now on my first one and the second one magically disapered.
Iám really disapointed at the moment, I hope they fix it soon. I thought it might be a problem related to the proxy i need to use , but other mmos work just fine.

Good luck

Well I tried changing the proxy settings as described above but I'm still not making any connection.

I have a digital copy from Atari, anyone else have this issue or is it effecting store bought DVD's to?

i'm in the same boat, and nothing helps
been 4 days now, it all started for me with a patch they did at the 5th, after that i managed to log in once
and thats it, now it says account server timed out, or account server disconnected, and if i do
get in i can play for about 10 minutes and i get server not responding, and thats it
i cant get back in.

i talked to my ISP today, after not being able to connect 3 days straight, and they tried a few things with me,
managed to connect for 10 minutes, got server not responding, and that was it, cant connect anymore again

any help will be apreciated..

thanks

Upon reading up a little on the forums I was having the same issue, the Connection to the Account Server Timeout and the Connection to the Login Server Timeout as well. I read someone elses post on another thread or whatever and the way I fixed the problem was log into my computer under a different user account, such as your Guest account. I was initially logged in under my Administrator user account, but once I switced to another account, (one w/out admin rights) it allowed me to login to STO no problem, try it out ya'll it just might be your easy fix...I've got an open ticket on the issue w/ the above mentioned solution.... HOpe this helps ya'll, please post back and lemme know if it works for you too! Thanks

I tried this and it wouldn't let me access my internet connection from the guest account which I thought was very unusual.

to play the game you can not use the gameclient.exe you have to use the launcher as the launcher passes information to the client it needs to connect.

also you need and active account
either a demo account or a full retail account
demo you needed to have set the account to demo by clicking this link
http://www.startrekonline.com/user/free_demo_start/Cryptic

to do the full retail

to do the full game you need to do all these steps

1. buy the game
2. enter the retail key
3. select a renewing subscriptiopn (required)
4. enter how you plan to pay for the subscription once it starts
5. wait for cryptic to validate the payment type. (they do it in batchs so time varies)

then your account will be active withthe 30 days subscription bonus.

if you used a credit card or paypal then you wil not be charged for the subscription until after the 30 day bonus.

if you use a gametime card then the 30 days will be added to the time of the gamecard ie 30 day gamecard + 30 day bonus = 60 dayes before you have to enter antoher game card to play.

if you skip any of these steps then the game will not be active

if you did all the above steps and still can not play then you need to open a ticket with billing they only work mon - fri 8 am to 5 pm pdt.

(you will need to do a search first before the link to create a new ticket shows up)

you also need to besure your firewall antivirus are not blocking the game.
your firewall and router is not blocking ports TCP 7000 - 7500

that link is for setting up a demo account . it will not work if
1. you already have a demo account setup
or
2. you previous applied a buddy or retail code to the account.
