View Full Version : Shields turning off randomly

In many fights, my shields will just randomly turn off. It is similar to what happens when you cloak, but I am not cloaking when this happens. The shields just turn off for a second or two. This happens in both PvP and PvE combat. It sucks in combat when I get 25% or more hull damage because my shields just cycled off/on for a couple fo seconds.

Is this a bug or is someone using an ability to do this? I never noticed this happening on my fed. I wanted to ask here before submitting a bug report. Thanks.

Phasers, they can proc and turn your shield off temporarily.

You're getting hit by either Phasers, or Target Subsystem: Shields.

Hmmm.. that is probably it. I think I misunderstand how phasors worked then. Funny I do not remember this happening on my Fed, so I assumed it was a bug related to the cloaking ability. Thanks for the help.

You can also manually compensate for energy loss by increasing power allocation. Always, always be on power view 3 so you can do this.

You will see a specific shutdown of systems more often when squaring off against feds (pug v pug). This is mostly because federation science ships have every single target subsystem: x ability inherent to their ships. Klingons don't have a science ship until T5, so their officers must use a tactical slot to just get one of the four.

Anyone have a shield an enemy ship is shooting at drop from full to zero for a few seconds then go back to full again ? (not all shields drop to zero , just the facing one , and not from being drained by damage .)

Sounds like one of my victims!

If the dude was shooting you with turrets, that was probably me or one of my prodigies. Did he drop mines on you when your shields went down? =)

Target Sub system shields.

Phasor Cannons / turrets.

Target sub sys shields BO ability.

Polaron weapons reducing shield power.

Energy Drain removing shield power to where they fall

If dropped by phasers, it seems to only be off for a second or so. It's pretty rare for them to hit you with a torp right at that second since the phaser proc is so unpredictable.

beam target shields system, my escort has it set to drain 80 shield power, and I know someone with 92. if you have less than that It's going to autodisable your shields.

those are all good ways to disable an enemy ships shields , im still trying to figure out how you disable only 1 facing of they're shields without doing it by dmg , been running into that alot past couple days .

My facing shield drops to zero for a couple seconds , just in time for the torpedoes to get to me, then they're instantly full again after they hit .

beam target shields does that too.

This is not a random thing mate.

Many weapons and moves target sub systems or shields.

When this happens pop your hull defences.

long story short, Beam target shields has 3 effects, 1 is a flat chance to disable shield subsystem, 1 is a flat chance to disable the facing shield, 1 is a power drain

in terms of target shields (power) aux doesnt effect the drain AT ALL


edit: If it wasn't for the fact that most people can't use it properly and other skills like FBP this would be considered a top tier skill.

If your an escort that runs 100 weapons 25 shield 25 engine 50 aux your engines and shields will turn off for a long time if you get hit by energy syphon or a few pulses of tyken's rift.

Anyone playing with beams will kill themselves until feedback pulse is balanced tbh.

I think beam overcharge takes out one facing. Subsystem shields drops all shields.

actualy beam subsystem has chance to drop one facing + drains shield setting, when it reaches 0 (like on people with 25 setting) it disables, whole subsystem.
