The way I read the tooltips, Weapon Maintenance and Weapon Efficiency don't have any effect on energy weapon skills in and on themselves, for example Beam Overload, right?

Just making sure before I potentially waste skill points.

All of the maintenance skills apply indirectly, that is by affecting the Emergency Power to X skills, or the Beam Overload, those kinds of things. SP to Maintenance will not directly affect the subsystem.

Efficiency skills directly affect the subsystem, but only when that system is set at 50 or below. And even then, the higher the setting, the less effect you'll notice. So if you use Attack (100/50/25/25) often, then training Engine and Aux Efficiency are good ideas.

Performance skills directly affect the subsystem, regardless of power setting. So that's when you want to train a Weapon or Shield skill.

Yeah, that was how I understood it as well. Thing is, those tooltips tell you SO MUCH you get beaten to death with information. /sarcasm

<Subsystem> Efficiency skills are Power Allocation skills. They give power setting bonuses to a subsystem at a lower power settting (i.e. less then 60). The lower the power setting the bigger the Bonus. It's one that stacks with the like bonus from Starship Warp Core Training. If you are running you Weapon Power level at more than 60 all of the time, you probably don't want to spend points in Weapons Efficiency.
