1. A friend of mine and I were exploring together and were trying to get into the same mission. The odd thing was for a long time we could not accomplish this. There was an option to "Explore System (player name)" and when you clicked that you got a different mission. Then suddenly there was an option on the other side of the screen to join the mission...and that put us back together. Is there some sort of specific set of thing you have to do to get into the same mission?
2. If you share a mission with someone who doesn't have the pre-requisites will the penalty to the reward go away when they complete the pre-requisite missions? If not is there is a way to "un share" the mission till later?
3. Do your bridge officers use their abilities (heal, repair shields, etc) on other PCs? Do you have to trigger this manually?
4. Isn't pause supposed to be available even with more than one PC on the away mission?

You can set a closed team in the Team Window. Press O for the social window and choose Teams. There you have a bunch of drop down menus:
Current Team
Team Join Mode > Prompt on Request, Open Teaming, Allow Requests, Closed Teaming
Loot Mode
Loot Threshold
LFG > Open Teaming, Allow Invites, Closed Teaming
Default Teaming
(Same options, these apply if you are in Sector Space without a Team. Once you're in one, the Current Team Settings apply to the leader.)
To do the same missions, choose Closed Teaming on both "Team Join Mode" and "LFG Mode" boxes in your current team, go to the same location nav point in Sector Space and choose the mission with the player name on it. If you haven't formed the team yet, choose those settings in your default box and send the request to your friend before entering a mission. For subsequent missions, be sure to choose the named one if you're on a team heading to the same nav point.
2. If you share a mission with someone who doesn't have the pre-requisites will the penalty to the reward go away when they complete the pre-requisite missions? If not is there is a way to "un share" the mission till later?
Haven't tried this. I think the prereqs only apply to the leader of the team, if the other members don't have the mission, they'll get credits, but they won't finish the mission until they acquire it the same. I might be wrong on that.
3. Do your bridge officers use their abilities (heal, repair shields, etc) on other PCs? Do you have to trigger this manually?
You can trigger any BOFF ability you like:
-- Click on the BOFF you need and make them run toward you, or you run to them.
-- Click on the ability to use: there's a series of boxes next to each picture. Choose the ability you want.
BOFFs will try to use these abilities when possible between fights to buff/rez you when necessary. But they will NOT try to help you above their own immediate concerns. (If you need rezzed, and they're fighting Gorn, the Gorn come first, then you.)
4. Isn't pause supposed to be available even with more than one PC on the away mission?
Depends on the mission. If paused, it's only for :45 sec, and the name of the "pausee" will be on the display.

For joining the same mission there is two things. Say we are both by an unexplored system in an uncharted sector. One person selects "Explore System" and then the other player sees "Explore System (player name)" and "Explore System". Selecting the first option does not put you in the mission with the other player.
But there is a box with the mission name that shows up on the right hand side of your screen that does do so.
What does it take to trigger the box to show up? For a while the box wasn't showing up, then it started to show up and so my friend and I were never sure what it took to get it to show up. We were in a team to begin with and selecting the "Explore System (player name)" would just give you a new mission in that system.
On bridge officers, they will rescue you?? Holy cow I never realized that. I just used respawn if I went down, which always seemed idiotic. I realize I can use their abilities but I could never figure out how to target myself so that they would heal me, or regen my shield. I find the away team stuff a tad confusing since the pace is a bit hectic for me...even more so when I am in the middle of melee combat with a swordmaster.
Thank you greatly for the informative reply, it helped a lot.

Figured it out...
If you are both exploring a nebula, both parties need to find a DIFFERENT unknown space.
1. Make sure you're in a team.
2. Person A must find an unknown space.
3. There are two options, a players name and unknown space. Choose the players name.
4. Player A has now gone into the space.
5. Player B now has to find their "own" unknown space... a different one to Player A.
6. Once Player A has loaded and warped into the system, then Player should approach an unknown anomaly.
7. Player B should not get a rectangle button on the lower right (different to the normal long tab). Click that.
Player B should NOT click the normal "unknown space" or "player name". That won't work. It has to be the separate button.
This works all the time for us. BUT, if player B approaches an unknown anomaly BEFORE Player A has loaded and warped in, then Player B sometimes have to find/approach another unknown before they get the button to pop up.
Gives me the ***** that when you join a team, this doesn't work smoothly. Even when going between sectors, sometime I have to change instance just to stick with the team.
