Not sure if this subject has been covered before. I apologize if it has but it's early and i've only had one cup of coffee. = ).

I engage in a lot of ground pvp and have experienced some issues with movement. There are times when I have my enemy targeted and in an advantageous position to press the attack. So I press the key to move forward and find myself going backwards. Some how the ui suddenly inverts the axis so your traveling in the opposite direction you want when pressing the appropriate key.

This has gotten me in trouble a few times. I press to move forward and then end up backing right into a bunch of enemies. Is anyone else experiencing this. I find it very frustrating. If i wanted to run backwards i'd do so on my own. I don't need the ui to suddenly reverse polarity simply cause i have a target locked.

Also who's bright idea was it to fix the clear target key and the bring up hud key to the same key. Both these are mapped to the escape key. So when i try to clear my target quickly most of the time the hud pops up. When i remove the hud i find myself still locked to the target and now i have two problems.

The third problem i find with the target camera after locking onto a target never releases. So if that person hauls tail and ends up around 3 corners you have serious trouble trying to move in another direction cause any key you press has you trying to run through walls, boxes or other things. I noticed this also gets stuck after i die. A few times after dying my target lock seems to be perma stuck on the last individual i had targeted.

Anyone else having these issues?

I think the target camera needs to be changed to a chase camera. Free cam and target lock cam just don't work well and fix the clear target key so it's not joined to the same key as show hud. It looks like this show hud/clear target. Who ever thought that one up is beyond me.

If I am not mistaken the way that the ground combat movement works is that it orients your controls the to way you were facing at the moment you targeted your enemy but turns your avatar to be facing them at all times. To demonstrate what I mean I shall lay it out (for the purpose of this assume the target is static, facing you at the start and doesn't move etc):

Note: Default movement keys i will use for this are W=Forward S=Backwards A=Turn Left D=Turn Right Q=Side step left E=Side step Right

If you are facing North towards your enemy when you target them and then move to the East (The NPCs Left) forward will now be A, right will be W, Left will be S and back will be D (note that once in combat you can't turn)

If you were to move directly North from your original position till you were behind the NPC controls would now be S=forward W=Back A=right D=Left

Its confusing enough when its just like that but considering that you can move in a full 360 degree circle around them there are times where to move foward you have to hold down A+S etc (Also note that no matter which way your keys are oriented at the time double tapping W,A,S or D will move you in the default direction for that key, which makes it even more confusing when you get used to the "new" orientation)

The Camera/Control RUBBISH is exactly why I canceled my subscription. I could overlook all of STOs many other shortfalls if I could just move around without fighting the controls and camera.

The camera/controls can work well in Earth Space Dock and when flying before targeting. As soon as you need to actually DO anything, they go to crap.

The toughest enemies in this game aren't any NPCs, UberPlayers or Griefers, it's the bloody cameras and controls.

Have a look at the 'Camara Follow' thread. (I think it would get a lot more attention if it were spelled properly).
