View Full Version : Evil robot voice?

So, before Klingon players would hear a Starfleet computer voice whenever they neede to be notified about anything about their ship. For examle: Ship is under attack, shields are down, hull integrity below 50%, etc.

This was (understandebly I hope) very imersion braking if not frankly annoying. So when Cryptic said they would fix it Klingon players, such as myself, rejoiced, thinking we would get a propper "Klingon" voice telling us what we need to know.

Well ... no!

Insted we got an evil robot voice telling us ... something? Definetly not Klingon, maybe it is Borg? (definetly not sweedish)

I honestly do not like the new voice. I would like to know where to switch over to the old one, or better yet, just turn the whole damn thing off! (Would it have been to much work to get a proper (female) klingon voice?)

P.S. Thanks for the exploration missions, finaly something to do, yay!

I agree, I thought Borg when I first heard this voice and thought it was a result of me using the liberated borg character.
Kind of a "hey here's something extra" deal.

Instead I find out it's a Klingon voice thing?
...yeah, no thanks.

I have it turned off right now. ( It's the notification option on the far right tab in options, it'll have three options to choose from via a drop-down box)

I too do not like the the new computer voice to me it sounds like a Goa'uld from Stargate. To bad they can't get Michael Dorn or Hetzler in to do some sort of Klingon computer voice.

this new voice fits very well to the guttural growling speech of a huge klingon male with an adams apple the size of two fists.... i like it, though it irritated me the first time i heard it

/signed for Klingon voice! I kinda like the voice over, but should match the empire... i guess Rom voice over will be done by richard simmons.

And Shields 2 . 3. Skip Girls 2 3.

Little more on the serious side, I would of liked to hear some Klingon Language mixed in with english. Just for the experiance.

Because im a Liberated Borg Klingon, it fits for me

but that opinion is only because im a Liberated Borg Klingon, otherwise i doubt i would like it. would like a choice between Hal9001 and klingon, but the evill computer vocie is better then the Fed voice

Sorry I have to agree with many online, it sounds like a Borg. Actually sounds like a Borg with something stuck in his throat.

Not all of us are "liberated" Borgs ;) So I would agree with the comment to get a Worf type voice actor to say a few lines for the game. Or the gal that played a Klingon in STNG, sorry don't remember the actresses name.

EXACTLY! I'm glad they changed it but it definitely sounds to me like multiple voices speaking as one (i.e. borg)

I second this. I think my ship is semi-assimilated.

I can relate, I can't understand it sometimes. I could understand it was Klingon, but it was a little deep and hard to understand.. I like it over the annoying Starfleet one though.

oh boy, I have yet to use sound, it is not necessary, i always understood that there was no sound in space so why use it? on the other hand, keeping the sound turned off lets me be in space without waking my 2 year old daughter.

The Klingon computer reminds me too much of CABAL. It doesn't really feel Klingon at all.

I'm not sure we ever heard a Klingon computer say anything in any Star Trek episode. I'd actually rather prefer to hear the voice sound like a living Klingon bridge officer is the one giving status reports because of that. And even if I'm wrong I still think that would be a better idea.

They should also throw in some broken Klingon with the various warnings.

Sounds like someone stuck in slow motion to me.

What cryptic should have done was made the voice a Moody Klingon female that would swear at you in klingon when your shields failed.

You know, I don't recall the computers on Klingon ships saying much of anything in any of the episodes or films. It seems as though Klingon shipboard computers are meant to be seen, not heard. Alternately, if they're deceptively intelligent as Starfleet machines sometimes seem to be, maybe they've figured out that it's in their best interests to be quiet. (Imagines frustrated Klingons shooting consoles in response to being told that which they'd rather not hear by their computers.)

Giving them the option of setting their computers text notification only modes, or simply turning it off altogether, might be more realistic.

hahaha. yeah. I have a liberated borg Klingon and I kept on thinking to myself "Why would I be talking to myself saying that there ar issues going on".

Now i realize it is the "klingon voice". And that is hilarious.

Getting Michael Dorn to do some Klingon voiceovers would truly be awesome. I mean, he just did some voiceovers for Bioware, so it'd certainly be possible. Why not reconnect with the franchise that made him the man he is? :D

Although I would also approve of this:

I think you are spot on!

Something like:
"Qua'pla, we have engaged in battle!"
"Those taHqeqs have brought our shields down!"
"*Growl* ... Our hull is below 50%!"

P.S. ArlanKels, thank you! :)

To quote Scotty recently.

"I like it, this ship is exciting!"

Granted the computer would not actually speak klingon ( although that would be kewl )

" So'wI vIchu'ta!!"

I already airlocked my TAC, cos he has put on the irritiating voice on my Raptor. Well, he was a male anyway, so no lost.

And if the next TAC put's it to Klingish, I might need to airlock her as well!

Darnt it, I'm an ORION Cpt, either learn my langugage or walk the walk on da outher hull, without a suit!

I tired with others to fight this change on tribble it went on deaf ears......

It needs two things.

To be in KLINGON , and NOT A BORG.

There should be more voices to select anyway...

Since my Captain and crew are all female Orions I would like to have some kind of calm and a little seductive female voice notifying me about the status of my ship.

Letting the player chose from at least three different voice sets per faction would be realy nice.

Personally, I think the new voice is awesome. I doubt the klingons would spend the time, or care, to synth a voice that sounds like a "real" klingon. Its a ship, not a klingon warrior.

I'm glad someone else noticed this :) When it's all we have versus the faux-Majel Barrett voice of Starfleet, I'll take it but it doesn't actually sound very Klingon. Also why robotize the voice? Both Federation & Klingon ships computers spoke clearly and distinctly on the shows.
