Kits

Question for anyone out there,

When I began this game, only one person on my whole team can equip kits. Which is my tactical capain. None of my other team members can equip kits. I know that their are other kits, such as engineer, science, and tactical. Are these kits only for the main character, the captain?

Yes, as far as I know, and someone please correct me if I got it wrong, only the Player can equip Kits. Your Bridge Officers gain skills as you promote them which they will use in Combat.
Also, you can only equip Kits for your profession, so a Tactical officer can only equip Tactical Kits, not Science or Engineering Kits.
