In all the episodes the phaser clearly is destroyed in the process.

In all the episodes the phaser clearly is destroyed in the process.
Because people complained 100 energy drain was too much and they fixed it so it was lighter on players' power levels. In the same patch they nerfed EPS consoles, so it was a tradeoff.
