Question on How Referals Work

As stated, I have a question on how referals work. I've sent out 3 referals to 3 different people. I know 2 of them are on trials and will be buying full versions shortly. The third just got the game a few days ago. My question is do they have to make a brand new account on Cryptic or do they just put in the referal code in the redeem key section? And the referal kicks in once they actually pay for their first month, correct?

They need to redeem the key in their account before redeeming the retail key (the one that came with the game)

The referral rewards get activated after they have been billed for the 1st month of subscription.

Probably. I haven't given out any referrals yet so I'm not sure. This is what I've heard. He can try to put the referral code in to see what happens. It might work.
