Would you want your tombstone to read:
Spent 17 hours of life complaining on an internet message board about losing exclusive access to a pre-order Star Trek uniform for a video game avatar.
During the same week, spent 1.3 hours playing said video game.
????
It's kind of disheartening people. In the words of the great Shat, Get a Life, will you people? Have you ever kissed a girl?

Some do tend to put too high a value on a set of pixels.

I don't think I'm trolling. I'm asking a legit question about why some of you folks are so passionate about a video game add-on feature, when there are ACTUAL THINGS in this world to feel passionate about in your pursuit of corporate justice and consumer rights.
Why are you working up your blood pressure over something so stupid? Why not devote your time and energy into doing something constructive that actually matters?

You know, if only just as much time and effort could be put on ranting about some of the really old yet-to-be-fixed bugs, maybe they would actually get fixed.

Given what is running around SOL, it appears allot of people want to date their avatar and bofs.
Speaking of tombstones, what is the deal with the D'Arsay? They leave theirs all over the galaxy.
And people need to work with their strengths and complaining is one thing everyone has mastered.

I'm looking forward to the under-the-hood overhaul to Exploration missions that should hopefully fix blank missions and allow mobs to be tinkered with easily.

You could go to the threads that exist and ask there. But I'll answer you here, at least from my perspective.
I spent a total of $1500 on Cryptic. What Cryptic did essentially destroys trust. After leaving CoH, Cryptic is just now getting back on it's feet. Starting out by releasing a cross game promotional offer and then violating the terms of that offer is a horrible way to start out. Anyone who disagrees about the violation need only look up the wording of the offer. It makes no mention of a time frame. If you think we should have asked questions to get the whole story, we did. Daeke answered them to the effect that it was to remain exclusive indefinitely. Cryptic made no effort to contradict Daeke prior to the majority of sales (if during the sales period at all).
This is only the third fiasco that's occurred as a result of Cryptic's bungling up the COLTS. The first time was when they cut off sales early in direct contradiction to the original stated time period they were going to be offering the COLTS.
The second time was calling the MU uniform a "set" when in fact it was just a single uniform - male only. That was later rectified, but only a month after they rectified it, we ended up having the third issue which we're in the middle of now.
And just to let you know, the Mirror Universe Uniform was not a preorder thing at all. It was tied to the COLTS and you get it whether you preordered STO or not as long as you have a COLTS.
Now why is it worth being so vocal over? Quite simple. Trust has been lost. As lifetimers, me being a lifetimer on both games with two accounts (one of which is my husband's, but we pool our money and resources, so it's as much my money as it is his), we're in the for the long haul. If the game fails, the huge wads of cash we blew was for nothing. A loss of consumer trust and loyalty can easily bring Cryptic to it's knees during this crucial time. Otherwise no one enjoying all the exclusive items now will be able to enjoy them for very long.
It's actually not about the items but about the lack of trust. We were sold an exclusive uniform, we gave out copious amounts of cash and were supposed to get an exclusive uniform. But the uniform is not exclusive. We did not get what we paid for. But none of us really think that it's fair that only we get the uniform.
This is why proposals have been made to make a noticeable, but minor and inconsequential variation to the uniform to satisfy the "unique" and "never available any other way" part of the MU Uniform from COLTS while also allowing people to keep their no-longer exclusive cstore items. It'd be a win/win for everyone, but the detractors have to poo poo it.
Thing is, they poo poo the regaining of trust. As such they inadvertently argue for a lose/lose situation. Again, if Cryptic has no credibility, its sales will dwindle until it goes bankrupt. Everyone loses, you, me, Cryptic, Atari, Trekkies everywhere. Even the CO players lose and most of them are not directly involved.

I love all the "Cryptic lost my trust" posts... those have to be the most hilarious.
Hello... trust... in a corporation... Man where has everyone been the last 50 years. The days of the customer is always right is OVER... To be honest.. who do we have to blame... hmmm lets see.. the customer.
People think they were misled, they weren't. People think they were lied to, they weren't. What is even funnier is that people get mad at Cryptic for giving away these items and people don't even realize they didn't even own these items. No one owned the MU uniforms but Cryptic.
After a week of these threads all I have seen from most with the exception of one or two posters is that they got their exclusive toys taken away. What is worse is the most complaints are about the MU uniforms. At least the Borg BO had an actual in game use.
