here is one of the few clips where you can see the ship in motion:

They managed to show some of their Fan Movies in german TV @ Sat. 1 ...back in the day when Voyager was NEW.
I only have seen 2 myself, but 5 should exist.

The official (german) homepage: http://raumschiffhighlander.de/

Cryptic, if they want, could surely get in contact with them and get some of their Shipdesigns.

They also had a *kind of Galaxy Class* with 4 Warpnecelles:

(only pictures i could find, but they had it in CGI in the Movie)

...at least as "inspiration". ;-)

With a little tweaking, that 4-Nacelle design could work, but that first one looks just wrong. We've moved beyond circular hulls for gravity in Star Trek, the ships don't look like that anymore.

I have seen some rumblings about a circular engine ring (aka like the Vulcans used to use) that would provide a slipstream type drive. That may be why that assemby exists (it's probably more because someone thought it was cool but hey, I have seen the theory discussed)

The 4 engine variant could work.

Too bad they can't look over and just use ships from the various game mods. There were some awsome ships in the SFC 2 and 3 mods was well as Armada and BC.

That first one looks more like something out of Babylon 5 than it does from Star Trek. No thanks.

As for the second one, isn't there a ship design similar to that in game already? Its just another version of the Stargazer really.

I think the spinning part in the back was more of a homage to Babylon 5.
I wouldn't mind some more moving Parts on Starfleet Ships though.

...that is like saying that the Constitution Class and the Abrams Enterprise look like the same.
They are VERY diffrent ships.

I think it's more of a homage to what's his face (IMDB to the rescue, Rick Sternbach) from TNG, who cut his teeth on Carl Sagan's Cosmos, doing designs from a scientist's starship idea blueprints. Which is the work that got the dude the job on TNG in the first place.

It's early and I'm old so the name escapes me. But it's reminiscent of a ship idea that was in Cosmos. And eventually did make it into an early ship idea for Trek in some later show.

IF ITS NOT SCOTTISH - IT"S CRAP!!!

Seriuosly though I like the look of it and have no problems with it being a vessel skin option.
Though the front of it does look a little Narn-ish to me.
What classification would it fall under?

As a side note, I do like the fact that the ST fanbase has made so many independent films.
My favorites are the ST porn parodies though, funny as hell.

here are some more

Strange... to me it allways looked like an oversized frontpart of the Klingon Vor'Cha Class.

d'oh why did i say CRUISER in the Title? I meant CARRIER!!!

Line up a Narn Battleship and this vessel and the similarity is too close.
As a carrier though, this vessel would rock!
I'll take one with velour seats in perrywinkle blue, for me Ma.

If the only option of the other player is to stop attacking you, then yes, its an overpowered ability, and unlike the sensor abilities, this one isn't canceled by the user continuing to attack.
TOO ****ING TRUE.

I personally really dislike both. I'd hope for a playable Typhon-class, Akira carrier or even Cryptic original stuff before these.

hmmm ok, maybe you have to see the movie to appriciate the design...
to bad it is not avaible online and even then it would be in german and you people still wouldn't "get it".

I file this under collectively saying "it's to diffrent /me dont like diffrent" then...

But I actually liked it.
Remined me of the old Heinelen, Pournelle, Asimov scifi book covers from when I was a kid,

Its an okay looking starship in the generic sense, but it doesn't look remotely like something Starfleet would build.

Also, Starfleet doesn't use rotating modules to simulate gravity anymore, with the artificial grav generators - thats the reason some sci-fi ships have the spinny bits - Gravity.

3rd - its owned by someone else, so Cryptic wouldn't be able to just use it, they'd need permission. Then royalties and the CBS ownership issues surface. Too much legal hoop-jumping for a ship that doesn't work for Trek anyway.

I like it a lot -- I'm a fan of 'gritty' spacecraft designs -- I just don't think it's good for Trek. =) Thanks for the links, though, I'll have to give this a look-see.

While I think the Vulcans still use toroidal warp drives, there's got to be some reason everyone and their brother don't use them, so I'm pretty sure toroidal structures wouldn't be used.

Honestly, if Cryptic goes with fan-made designs, there are a lot out there and a handful aren't even half bad. I'd like to see a few of the Perpetual designs make it in (one of them already did, though it got blowed up) like the ring-saucer science ship. The Avenger by that guy from DeviantArt would be good. I'd cheerfully toss tribbles into the warp core for a Starstalker. Even the Achilles from Dominion War would rock pretty hard.

That being said, some of the designs Cryptic's done for STO haven't been bad -- even the "space whale" star cruisers have grown on me, and have been to me redeemed by the Nomad class. (YMMV.) The designs aren't bad; it's just a question of where to put NEW designs. I wouldn't mind seeing some 'hybrid' types that can fit into roles other than strictly escort/science/cruiser (very specialized specialty ships, say, or actual hybrids.)

Worst looking ship i've seen since flash gordon....does it come with strings?

While I think the Vulcans still use toroidal warp drives, there's got to be some reason everyone and their brother don't use them, so I'm pretty sure toroidal structures wouldn't be used.

You could invent a dozen reasons why there might be a use for the ring and needle look the Vulcans use if required. I mean, they did that for the Enterprise vs Miranda configs [Enterprise being more efficient, Miranda having a better combat profile] so it's not like the fiction supports just one optimum.

I'd love to see Starfleet designs that were more inspired by non-Human sources. A spindle-style ship is a good example. We *do* have the Andorian styled Ushaan class in game already, and I could have sworn I've seen it written that the Defiant takes Andorian aesthetics. More of this would be welcome.

well Babylon 5 is garbage, and so is that ship.

I like it a lot more than the Jupiter class. I could deal with having it in-game, as long as the spinny part doesn't spin (hate spinny parts)
