View Full Version : Diagnose my sleeping problem!

Once or twice a month I wake up and am crazy for a few seconds.
Example:
I'll often wake up, be totally convinced there's a bug on my bed then get up and shake my blankets to just get up and leave. A few seconds later I'll be fully sane then be like "wut?" because I never actually saw a spider or bug (often it's pitch black and I couldn't see anything anyways).
This is not connected to my dreams. I've had clear memories of my dreams, then woken up, then acted crazy for a few seconds. There's no connection there.
Also I have no particular fear of spiders or bugs.
Extreme Example:
Once I woke up and was somehow convinced that one of those security lasers was just above my torso. I literally took my arms and pulled my body clear of it without moving it up so I wouldn't touch it as it was a "scifi" security laser that would burn me if I did.
After my body was clear I stood up. At this point sane I was like "What the Fudge was I thinking?"
Now this stuff happens exclusively when I'm not done with my sleep. As in the middle of the night and I'll go back to sleep afterwords.
Also as I said it's not connected to my dreams. I can go from a Candyland dream to bugs in my bed and awake within a split second.
It's not like I actually SEE these things either. I don't. I'm just for some reason convinced they're there for a few seconds until my sanity returns.
I get plenty of sleep so it's not from lack of it. I'm just batcrap crazy for a few seconds a few times a month when I wake up randomly.
DIAGNOSE ME!

Maybe you're waking up from one of those half-dreams - you know, the one you have when you're not quite asleep, but not quite awake either.
Or you just need to see a sleep specialist - or a shrink. ;)

The beautiful thing about dreams is, because they're so wonderfully disconnected from our conscious thoughts, there's no way to really understand them, or how they affect us. Dreams are partially taken from bits and pieces our subconscious minds have been thinking about...is it too far a stretch to believe they can put things back in our subconsious, too?

I'm 100% conscious when I do this unlike with sleepwalking (which I've done a few times but not for a years). I also retain a full memory of it unlike dreams which fade.

Try to read more relaxing stuff before going to bed, the most recent memories play the most heavy on your mind.
I used to read one of my favourite science magaiznes before I went to bed, quited that because it whoke me up thinking about what I read and all, now I just pick a good book and can dream away with it.
But overal I am a terrible sleeper some night none at all and some nights can last 20+ hours if I don't use my alarm clock. bad bio ritm is bad.

I find the act of staying hydrated during the night is impossible if you don't want to wake up and pee.

Your description brought to my mind Sleep Paralysis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis), a situation where a person will partially awaken while in deep sleep. Their body and a good portion of their brain will still be 'asleep' and as such their body will be paralyzed and may hallucinate. This is the probable explanation for alien abductions and out of body experiences.
However since you seem to have full control over your limbs, it would not fall into the catergory of Sleep Paralysis. However it does sound like some manner of parasomniac sleep disorder, possibly pavor nocturnus or Night Terrors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_terror).

This is just the info that was told to me by a Dr. for a almost identical problem only thing is mine would be for long periods of time 15-45 min in legnth I would play out weird scenarios. THe Dr. informed me that mine was from a semi asleep state and to much visual stimulation. He told me that with me going in and out of a deep sleep it was causing me to not be aware of being awake and moving whille dreaming and i could also remember everything i was doing. I would literaly think i was in a movie or game or perfect life and role play more or less. This sounds bad but it took a girlfriend recording a 30 min dream of me doing this and $1000 worth of damage to my bedroom window and tv to make me seek help for this. I have now over come this issue by cutting down on my games and tv watching and watching my local access channel for 15 min before bed to bore me. Please im trying to help no i wont share my video but if you have any other questions ill be happy to help just send me a message.

This sorta thing happens to most everybody.

About 24% of the world's population reports experiencing Sleep Paralysis at least once in their lives. I myself have had it happen to me at least twice that I remember.

wierdo...;)
I don't have dreams, so I can't comment. Yep, you heard. I go to bed, sleep, and wake up when my toe is bitten by a cat.
Though it sounds like you need some more fresh air, and you need some rest.

The OP is conscious and able to move and do stuff, but hasn't yet realized that he or she is waking up, just like every other day.

you would know that as well. I was agreeing with you regarding sleeping disorders being more common then people usually realize.

I realize I've waken up. I'm just insane. :pAnd as another poster said, you could be in that halfway state (being that you know you're awake, but thoroughly convinced that something from your dreams is real.).
