Hey, I was just wondering if the Federation might be getting a carrier too in the progress of the next season. Canonly speaking, the Federation have used carriers before both during the war of pacification with the ISC during the late 23rd Century and the more recent Dominion war. I would be really excited to see a Carrier Class vessel with Valkyrie Class fighters doing dogfights with the Cy-- I mean Klingon fighters in space as both captial ships blow the hell out of each other. :D

i think they could create some really unique PVP between large carriers, smaller fighters, and actually ship boarding actions.
didnt starwars battlefront do somthing like that ?

The ISC isn't a canon faction. And no to carriers. They're useless anyway. A waste of resources and a waste of dev time in making one.

That's a good idea. STO going smaller instead of bigger might make for some interesting gameplay, especially if the romulans become a playable faction. That nifty little fighter introduced in Nemesis looked cool. Plus, flying a peregrine fighter and playing maquis in cardy space might be a fanboy thing to do for a while

The problem with the current carriers in PVP is trying to click on the carrier itself to attack it with out accidentally targeting one of the 87 fighters flying around it. For PVE that sounds like a great idea.

Carrier's hadn't really seemed like a very federation type of ship to me (seems like a bit of a death sentence been sent out in one of those fighters) but if the Federation was shown using them as recently as DS9, then they'd certainly be appropriate to add.

My question is why would the OP think people would hop on board this idea by likening it to Galactica?

I didn't like Galactica but why does that matter?

I am pretty sure that the OP was going for the mental imagry of a battle between the galactica and a base star while the fighters went at it blowing each other to bits.

ISC and Ark Royal carriers are not canon, but using one-man fighter ships is not an alien concept for the federation. They have fighters alright, i just never seen any carriers..
I think that the Nebula could be refitted to be an acting carrier. Just strap on a maintenance bay on the pod slot.
And flush the Jupiter. Please.

I say no to carriers. Why because they are useless on their own, and useless in PvP as a whole, they are 100% support because all their deployables have 1 hp.

Akira class ships act as carriers. Not to mention the shuttlecraft carried by cruisers and the runabout the Defiant class can hold. I'd imagine that in a time of war, carriers would be carrying runabouts and Akira would carry almost exclusively peregrine class ships.

I would check your sources... all the Starfleet Command games ARE cannon... They have always been considered cannon so the Intersteller Concordium are a real race.

Yes, they were used in the Dominion War in DS9, so it's definitely canon.
Not sure I would want to pilot one, though. My tier 4 cruiser was enough of a pain in the tukas turning-wise.

I believe during the dominion war, Galaxy Class ships were refitted to serve as carriers however I was thinking a Cryptic remake of the old "Proxima-Class Battleship" would be a cool carrier vessel.

I think you need to check your sources. Video games have never been considered canon. Nor the board games they were based on.

Seconded. None of the games are canon. Nor is any novel, comic, or any other kind of material other than the movies and shows. Much as i loved the Mirak in SFC.
Isnt the peregrine warp-capable? I cant be bothered to find the relevant mem-alpha now...but the akira cant possibly carry them. They're far too big to fit in a shuttlebay, unless its 1 per.

The crew regeneration rate aboard these ships is akin to rabbits. A few crew here and there won't matter. Look at boarding party as a for instance.

Look I am not going to argue however lets just say that there is a list of games that ARE considered canon but I'm not going to argue about that. I agree that a Nebula class could make a good carrier but I would prefere a new type of ship specifically designed to be a carrier.
Long live the ISC...

Federation DOES NOT equal Galactica!
Nor does it equal Star Wars, Star Craft, or The Last Star Fighter!

Carrier should remain Klingon only.
