An account has three character slots. So if I have one character and my brother has another, can we play STO with the same account at the same time (on different machines of course :p)?

No. You need a different account for each person.

No, only one at a time, if he wants to play he'll need to have a separate account. You're paying a subscription to allow you a single user, to access the game at any time once.
If such a thing was possible, it'd lead to a lot of people account sharing, and most MMO's would crash-dive and find it incredibly more difficult to stay afloat than they already do.

As far as I recall, no MMO lets you do that and log into one account from two different PC's or two different instances of the MMO's client program.

No. A single account may only be logged on once at any given time. This is a golden rule consistent with every MMO in existance.

While I have never tried it with STO I do know that SWG, EVE, WOW, and PoTHS do not let you do this. Most likely you will not be able to do it, but it would not hurt you to try.... the worst that is going to happen is one of you is going to be logged out.

No. In order to do this you would need two separate accounts.
Only one character per account can be logged on at any one time. Logging into the game from a different computer will also likely disconnect the user who is already logged in.

You can play more than one character at the same time on the same computer, but you need two or more accounts to do it. Unless you have certain bot managing programs, it can be quite difficult. In City of Heroes, it amounts to a character that follows the main character and spams an attack, heal, or buff.

There's NO MMO I know of that allows you to log in two characters from the same account simultaneously. If you want to have to characters on to dual box, you ALWAYS needed a second account. Be it EQ, WoW, STO, whatever.

You cannot have a single account logged in more than once in EVE, so no matter how many alts you have, you can't have two of them online at the same time.

Alt simply means alternate. It doesn't mean they are on the same account. An alt is an alt regardless which account its on.

However, the OP's question and the resultant discussion was about playing with the same account. Specificiuty when speaking is a good thing.
As an aside, I can log in to both CO and STO at the same time and 'play' (and it almost doesn't make my computer kill itself). This is logical, of course, as I have two separate subs, though the account is the same.

That's completely understandable since people would be able to just buy one account and then if they have friends who wants to play all they have to do is buy the 20 dollar game asnd extra character slots if needed. However, I'm in the same situation as the OP and here soon I'm going to be moving out and having my own comp. I've been playing this game since February and have a character that I've worked very hard on with my father's account, is there any way I would be able to transfer that character from his account to mine?

Not only that, but if I remember correctly, if you're playing an alt and training skills on it, any skills you were training on your other character will stop until the alt is done. Kinda defeats the purpose of alts in my opinion.
It may have changed since I played Eve, but I do remember it working that way.

Well, the term originated from the notion that an account had a 'main' character and 'alternate' characters. Additional accounts had there own 'mains'. In any case, a single account in EVE can only have one character logged on at a time, like in every other MMO.

I have been moved character from one account to another in other games, limitation is accounts to be on same person or family.
But was not red for such options here so you have to ask account support and eventualy to prove that those accounts are in one family.

Maybe OP got confused over Multi Boxing, Multiple accounts and duel logging.
Multiboxxing = playing more than 1 aco**** from a single machine but using lots of other computers and relying on either amazing keyboard skills OR more normally a key duplicator to send the key commands to the other computer ( al ot of folks in wow do this)
Multiple accounts = owning more thn 1 account normally the second account is some kind of BOT account or extra storage OR buff bot. Or maybe just to play on the same server but on different sides (most companies dont like this its called cross realming)
Duel logging = having 2 different accounts logged into the same computer at the same time and either playing in windowed mode OR alt tabbing between them while the second account is stuck. Very similar to multiboxing but instead of lots of other computers its done on a single machine.
