View Full Version : Devs: A Few Ways to Improve the Game Dramatically

Hey Dev's: I wanted to give my opinion of some ways that you can dramatically improve the game.

1) Klingons

Either more PvE or better XP for PvP
While more PvE is one the way, in the meantime, the XP for PvP should be increased, currently it is pathetically small and one of the only things to do on the Klingon side.

A better selection of ships
More options, some Tiers like the Lt Cmdr Klingon ship have only 1 option, why not make two or three for each Tier?
Ship customization
Add in the ability to switch out wings, necks, forward sections, etc.

2) Visuals

Make the visuals of the planet/ station match the dialogue
Don't make me beam down to the True Way base and find one that looks like Memory Alpha, adapt the Cardassian Textures in game to work here.
When I beam down to a planet that appears like Yellow clouds in orbit, it should not be blue green on the planet.
When I beam down to collect Decalthium, it should either be rock or crystal, not either or.

Change the loading screens

Instead of stagnant loading screen, make short videos that fill in the same space. It will make the game feel less instanced and faster paced.
Instead of a picture of a ship, make it an animation of the player ship in warp, then drop out into the map.
Instead of seeing the picture of a different ship as you beam down, make an animation of the player on the transporter pad being beamed away with the chosen away team and beaming down to the map.

3) Change to instances

Make less instancing or make it appear like less.
Instead of instancing the Admirals office, either make it an extension of the Starbase and not a seperate instance or make a turbolift where the door currently is and when you step in it and click to go to the Admirals office, there is an animation of the doors closing, a few seconds, and they reopen to the Admirals office.

These are just a few changes that I thought would dramatically improve the games quality and how fun it is. I may add more as time goes on, but I would love to hear everybody's opinions or suggestions.
Thanks. :)

4) Crafting

Add custom crafting.
Currently the system is that so when I have enough samples and an item I can pick one of the presets and make it a little better.
What I am proposing is that there be the option instead to either make the item uncommon, rare, or very rare (each higher tier cost more samples) and that each one have a certain amount of modifiers that the player chooses. That way I can pick what gets added on, in other word, crafting the item. The current system seems more like upgrades than crafts.

I certainly agree with the crafting idea. There is no true crafting in STO. It's all upgrades to existing weapons, etc and you have to buy or own these to even make anything. How about the ability to make the weapons from scratch? Or making bulk amounts of things like personal shield batterys. Not just a few but hundreds for resale. Of course this goes back to something I mentioned not too successfully before, having a neutral 'traders' class.

It's true Star Fleet officers wouldn't be allowed a business on the side so the way the game runs now,all they ever craft is for personal or ships use. Makes crafting seem like it's not needed. After all no captain would dirty his hands crafting weapons in a war, its all just for us to play, in reality ( sorry to mention that again..lol) he's a CAPTAIN he orders things done, unless this is his hobby in his spare time, and during war, when is that?

I would suggest more detail focus to the Missions also. It is dis-Heartening to beam down to a planet to destroy the Hostile Alien Plants, and come face to face with 5 or 6 Roman Collumns. But then again, just to be fair, who can realy say what a Hostile Alien Plant would look like?

While I don't disagree with any of this, none of this falls under the heading of improving the ground game as far as I'm concerned.

As much as the lack of Klingon content is a big omiision, Cryptic really needs to step back from adding new content and fix the existing bugs and all the new ones the are introducing.

there is nothing wrong with new missions

the thing is everytime they add mission's they also add XP and new skills and new ships and animations and scanning minigames and what not...

they work on to many fronts at the same time and one is breaking the other.

nothing would break if they would just add some missions.
THEN add new Shiptypes and skills.
THEN add a Minigame.

yes they have diffrent teams for diffrent things and all need to work on something, they cant just pause working on Ships or 2 Poeple would be idle.

The Problem is that they collect everything push it all into one "Season" update and then they have 20 new bugs at the same time.

Get rid of the Sesons, release the stuff WHEN ITS DONE + Bugfree.
Like with the PVP Queue update.
That was one update, if something would break now they would know where to look.
In a 2GB update they probably need a week to search where the bug is comming from.

Nice post. :)

I go with increasing pvp xp for klingons while developing more pve content. I´d love to play the klingon side and i can wait, which i have to do, since i don´t play pvp.

On a side note: they used animated loading screens in beta or shortly after launch, but it seemed that was causing trouble for many players. I hope they find a way to re-intoduce it. :)

I love your ideas but one thing I think is definately necessary is fixing klingons so we can move onto romulans. Can't wait for them and Cardassians =)

I would say better crafted items for ground, visuals that make sense and less instancing or less percieved instancing could help the ground game in my opinion.

All of these are good suggestions, very good...

However im with the person who said, lets fix the showstopping bugs first. I mean really getting kicked ouf the game every once while is wearing on my nerves. Hence the reason i have been posting like a madperson last few days.
