playable borg

it's just an idea: playable borg faction. some people say the hivemind is hard to make in an onnline game, but if you'd ask me, I'll tell you it isn't. just make a tactical game of STO (like starcraft and the settlers)! different ships to fight with, different borg to fight with. and if you want to make your team bigger, you just find another species and make them part of the hivemind :).

Just as soon as the Klingons are finished, and the Roms and Cards are added, and there is enough new content to keep everybody happy, sure why not. So that'll be about 5 years :o

I'd eventually like to see a Romulan Faction, as would many, after more content is added to Fed and especially Klingon. I'd like to play a romulan character and trying to deal with the fact that we are a shattered empire and broken people, with our homeworld destroyed. Thats good potential RP material.

Borg faction? Mission 1: go and assimilate this. Mission 2: go and assimilate that.

Borg are like zombies so they should do a Halloween Event where any Liberated Borg players are reconnected to the hive mind and turned into drones again.

Then they can go into any social areas and assimilate other players who will be turned into drones.

Once you've assimilated, lets say 10 players, you'll unlock a borg cube for you to fight with in space. Earth Spacedock, Qo'nos, etc will become open PvP maps. Chaos everywhere! :eek:

I do not support the faction idea at all. But events/PvP like the above poster just said, I fully support. I missed the end of Beta thing unfortunately, and I want there to be another thing like it. And I will be disappointed if there is nothing like it ever.

Dstahl has said he would like to do a Event but i dont think it will be any time soon
I'm really interested in seeing the exterior of Earth Space Dock change into something more familiar.

That to me sounds like the Klingon empire is going to make a push for earth to blow up that station so it can be replaced by something else :)

Mission 1: Assimilate 5 boars. Mission 2: Assimilate 6 rats. Sub-Mission: Give assimilated rat whiskers to worker drone on your cube for some nutrient paste. Mission 3: Assimilate 8 Spiders. Mission 4: Hand in 5 assimilated Spider Eyes and 5 assimilated Boar Tusks to the Hub Interface in your sphere, and get a new upgrade cybernetic buzzsaw hand attachment.

I'm curious: have you actually played this game? Because 99% the missions are "go kill that, and now go kill that". The only difference with Borg is you are replacing "kill" with "assimilate".

Yep I can see Playable Borg as an event... would be fun to assimilate your friends! But not as a permanent faction.

If we had functional interiors with player run crews it would be different. I could see a Borg Cube manned by players... doing jobs like regenerating the hull, adapting to incoming fire, recycling damaged drones, maintaining the weapon systems, etc.

Borg players with similar duties would need to synchronize their work as they receive commands from the collective. The more players you have on your cube the better your ship stats are.

That would be cool but its a pipe dream at best.

If they did do a borg faction, i think the borg characters should have a borg specific trait, maybe called 'adaptive' which increases resistance to all energy weapons by 20% or something for as long as you are being hit by it, only Kinetic and physical damage is not reduced by this trait.

Or, you could just have it a passive trait, like 10% chance to hit.

Borg would only work as a playable faction if they are part of some rogue Borg faction. I would like to play a Borg Single player game that is similar to Bioshock. You are a Borg with free will, but still connected to the Collective. You have the choice of being a good Borg and not getting noticed, become the Borg Queen or King, or bring down the Collective by giving all Borg free will. MMOs and games are based on free will and a playable Borg faction that is part of the Collective will not work unless some things are changed.
