View Full Version : Ship Interiors, am I missing something?

I dont play very often but jumped on last night and decided to take a look at the new captains room that was listed as a feature in one of the patches. I think I may be too old to play games because I cant figure a few things out.

1. I found two shelves to place trophys on but the shelf turns into the trophy, I cant PUT something on it. That works I guess but finding the sweetspot that allows you to do this is a pain. I accidently discovered this while clicking on the couch trying to find a way to sit down. Even knowing the area of the sweetspot, I still had to spend a minute or two each time I wanted to find it to try something new. Is there an easier way that moving the mouse around the couch looking for the sweetspot?

2. I searched the whole room with the mouse and could only find the two shelves to interact with. Is that it? A room with two changable shelves is the big feature? This hardly seems worth the effort of the dev team. I would imagine more stuff is coming but maybe they should have waited to bring it out when it was a bit more developed. I was a bit disappointed with the room as is.

3. I found a turbo lift off the bridge and went in and tried clicking on the control panel and moving the mouse around to find something to interact with in the lift but I could not find anything. Is the turbolift another "Looks-Only" thing or am I missing something. I thought I read that I could explore my ship now but I could not find a way off the bridge.

4. Found another door on the bridge that does not open, lame.

5. Was walking around the bridge and noticed the LCARS system is actually reversed imaged on one wall and upside down on the other. You can find patches of text and see this. This was really lame. Are the bridge packs that you buy the same? Are they textures from other parts of the game slapped on upside down in the hopes we are too simple to notice?

6. I cant sit down? Really? UO had sitting 10 years ago. I really had a hard time with this one. How did that get missed? I dont think I have played a game in the last 10 years where the char could not sit down. I find this very disappointing. Between this and #5 above, it says a lot about the programing skills and creativity of some of the people working at Cryptic.

Overall I would give the new ship interiors a 5 out of 10. Its fun to look at for a few minutes but then you move on since there is no interaction.

The turbolift is Useable , i dont think there's anything you can click, you just press f.

Cryptic is notoriously bad at chairs. ^^

Are you missing something? No. Are they missing something? Yes; actual purpose.

I think they are adding it to the game as they work on it.

Fascinating.

If you think chairs are bad, try the new Brotherhood bridge, along with others from the same pack...It seems to me that they couldn't get a good deal of it right when it came to that series of bridges. I submitted a ticket many days ago and have heard NOTHING back about my BO's standing on consoles, not being able to sit in the chair, but on top of it...etc, etc.

It seems to me they are either ignoring player tickets, or they have too many tickets to get back to someone in a reasonable time. If it is the latter, then perhaps I can come work for them to do troubleshooting...lol

interior functionality is in the works.. no word yet as to when, but its definately "on the list" apparently.

the trophies/ships function, if you look very closely you can notice little mounts on them when they replace the shelves. also, the function to use them appears down in the bottom right corner where all the prompts appear when they're not in the middle of the screen.

chairs.. well, none of cryptics games have ever used a "click to sit" system, and apparently they're having trouble working one into their engine.. so this'd be a 5 year old over-sight on their part. you *can* sit, but you need to use an emote to do so and be positioned well.. its not ideal but again, its in the works.

the turbolift leads into the rest of the ship.. crew deck has captains quarters, lounge, sickbay etc and the engineering deck has your warp core. these are 100% generic and the same on any and all ships (again, the customisation of these is "on the way") and only changes in layout size which is selectable under the bridges tab in the ship editor/tailor.

the door that leads no-where is due to some bridges having more than 2 exits.. again an over-sight on the part of cryptic who put interiors in because players were wanting them rather than waiting till they had a proper purpose.

I'd suggest /bugging the wonky LCARS displays, there's been a few other over-sights that have been picked up by players and fixed by the team. the more helpful and specific you are in your bug report the more likely it'll be fixed sooner (as it makes it easy for them to locate and correct)

in short, right now bridges/interiors are kinda pointless, nice to have and know they're there but serve no real purpose.. however much has been said about the future for them so i guess its a case of waiting to see.

I was in the lift a while trying to figure it out, I would have thought an option would have popped up like when you get near a crate in a ground mission. I will try the F key tonight. Thanks.

When you enter the turbolift a couple of options should appear towards the bottom right of your screen. There you can select 'go to engineering' or 'go to crew deck'.

I love the new interiors but wish they had more functionality and also each one was different depending on your ship. I mean my engineering is the same for a tiny Defiant as it is for a huge Sovereign. Obviously, I understand the devs have time constraints and more important things to prioritise. But I hope eventually they get around to customising interiors based on ship class.
