View Full Version : rooted/stuck/glued ext ext. We need a real Fix

what ever you want to call it getting rooted, stuck or glued
we need this fixed, GM's seem to be useless taking up two hours to reply in game, and always with the same cookie cutter answers.
this problem has been a thorn in my side ever sense closed beta, where when in midst of ground combat my ground weapon locks up and a solid beam stays fixed to some out of frame target and I can't move any further in the mission.
FAQ's and GM's say to log out, lose your progression and restart the mission. this is not a fix, it's not a patch it's for the lack of a better word a detour. we're six months + in to gold and it's feeling more and more like we've paid all this money to debug alpha.
note I'm not as irate as it might seam but it sure is daunting to have to exit or log out of a game and come back in and redo a leg of a mission again and in my case a 90% chance that it will just end up the same rooted problem all over again.
what caused rooting and besides the ill-though out walk around, what can one do to avoid such things.

Rooted; an bug/glitch or other hickup in a game where a avatar becomes frozen in place, or rooted to the ground
most commenly accompanied by a never ending weapon beam locked onto a target that no longer viable. NPC's will still move and fight but PC is stuck.
the faq's and the GM's only reply has been to log out, wait fiffteen mins and log back in. In my dealings with this problem. not matter of time seems to aid in moving forward.
any help is highly welcomed.

I had to give up rifles (sniper was the worst). Seems to happen when coming out of crouch on an expose shot.
I went to plasma pistols and have not had an issue since.
Yesterday... when battling the Breen.... had a disruptor split rifle. Seemed to want to "get stuck"..... but my player continued to work. Strange that it left the Green Glow at the tip of my rifle though......
I agree.... this is in real need of a fix. Heard somewhere (dstahl?) that it is not an easy fix.... maybe season 3?

I actually haven't experienced this for a while, but I do know what you are talking about and it is annoying.

I do hope they find a fix for this soon, it can become disheataning having to repeat a mission over and over.
rifles are a key focus of my ground combat as are grenades and can't fathim why such a key bit of code would be so buggy. What's your recomendation for a repleasement weapon so I might better avoid the dreaded rooted. what's the best gear for Rear Admrial Lower Half, ( rareity not withstanding)

I remember it back in beta, it was horrible. At least it seems to be getting better. Still it should completely go away.
To change your title on the forum click on the My Account link at the top of this page. On the left click Group Memberships and change it to the lifetime group.

well lets all hope it's gone soon. would make for a lot less down time from being discouraged from re-running the mission again. and thank you for the answer for the group info.

I have the same problem and it is also impossible to predict when it will happen.
I made a ticket report and they suggested that I run some test and send them the dump data. I did not do it as I did not really understand the instructions. I'll get the message and copy it here.
Now, in order to avoid losing progression, here is what I do. When your character is stuck you will notice that he continues to fire at the target. So you can continue to shoot and finish off all NPCs in the vicinity. All special powers like kits also continue to work. You just won't be able to move to finish off NPCs that maybe out of range. For these, just send your BOs as a group using the "set location" item on their icon, and slowly redefine their locations back to you so that they drag the NPC into your firing range. Once all NPCs are gone, just disconnect (without quitting), relog immediately and your progression will not be impacted, you will even find that all yellow items lying around can still be looted.
I used that method last time to finish the new Deferi mission that loots the transphasic mine projectile. My character got stuck 3 times in the mines !!!!
This bug is a real annoyance. For solo PVE it doesn't really harm progression as described above, but in five man raids you get quicked out of the instance if your team members don't reinvite quickly enough. If they are quick enough, it is still blocking because you reappear far behind all the repop NPCs and your teammates can't join you. For that reason, I have never finished any 5 man raid. :mad:

obviously u need to stop using beam weapons then!

Yep.... That's what I do.... right click and end task. Go back in and your all set. Have only ground PvP a few times so not sure if it is an issue there and though I have 3 fed RAl,RAu & VA and a klink BG1 I have not tried any team end of game missions.

I'm addicted to my beam weapons, as a fed using a melee weapon seems so primitive and barbaric. I can do a lot of damage with my grenades but I need the added range of sniper riffles and such. Four years of army marksmanship training has kind of got me wired into such combat.
anyways, back on subject at hand. I've just taken my first steps into the Borg Front and I can't get past

Rescue Mission
* Rescue Colonist from the Borg and Undine
* Beam Out Colonist
* Rescue Colonists (0/5)
some times I'll get as far as 4/5 rescued and then it will lock up, as of my fifth go at the mission I didn't even get to one out of five. so I'm going to take a breather and try and relax.
as for the suggestion of have the BO's lead hostile NPC's back to you to kill, that works just great except when you have to interact with non-hostile NPC's as well to get things done. Will be sure to use this little workaround when ever I can. Thanks for the suggestion. keep them coming.

don't know if it's been mentioned, have you tried /killself? not an ideal solution but it's quicker than waiting for GM support.
