You have 2 choices.

1) Go to the tailor option and modify their looks, traits will not be changable but its close.
2) Complete the Diplomatic advancement and get a free common Klingon,Gorn, or Orion of any of the 3 classes as a Boff.

Where Can U Modify Their Looks

You have to visit Ghemik Telor (http://stoacademy.com/maps/esd.php?x=267&y=785) at Earth Space Dock (click his name I linked it to a map that'll show you).

I suggest going through the diplomatic corps. At the end you'll be able to get a KDF officer, and whole bunch of nice rewards. Check out this diplomatic corp guide (http://stoacademy.com/guides/diplomacy.php) for more info.

The species of your BOff is set when you get it. You can buy Aliens on the exchange or a Officer Requisitions that allow you to shape them to your will.

Your cat is a pet. It follows you around. That's it. There has been talk about making them combat pets in the future, but that is way down on the list of priorities right now.

At Quarks you need to go to the Dabo table. You can play Dabo and bet energy credits. If you win you'll get latinum.

Correct he can only change clothing. No one said you can change the race. If you have an Alien BO you can make it look like an Orion or anything else but you won't be able to change the race. For example, I created all of these canon aliens (http://stoacademy.com/guides/alien/) with an alien race.

It can't do anything besides follow you around. That's all pets are used for in this game at the moment.

Those are the alien races. You can make them look like anything you want. What do you mean what can they give you? They don't have anything special, at least not the ones you can buy from elsa.

when i download your canon characters how do i use them in sto ? where do i extract them to

Depending on the operating system you use, you'll need to extract them to the proper screenshot location

Windows XP = C:\Program Files\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online\Live\screenshots
Windows Vista = C:\Program Files\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online\Live\screenshots (it could also be the Windows 7 path)
Windows 7 = C:\Users\Public\Games\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online\Live\screenshots

Then when you are in the game you'll need either an alien race BO or an alien race playable character (depending which you want) and click the Load button. Then you'll see a list of possible costumes you can load. The ones you downloaded should be there.

I can't think of any aquatic species off the top of my head. Those are the only canon races I have made, and I'll be releasing one more either next week or the week after so keep an eye on my site if you're interested.

What Do You Need Ship Bridges For ?

At the moment, you can do one of 3 things. One is to use it as a ground map whenever your in sector space, for whatever you require a ground map for. You can invite people to your bridge as well.

The 2nd is to display certain trophies you can get by completing specific missions in your ready room, or simply put up gold replicas of ships. Some trophies can only be put up in the lounge, on the crew deck.

3rd is to replay missions. There is a console in your ready room that will allow you to replay missions you've completed before.

how do you access your bridge?

First you have to be in sector space.

Assuming you havent modified your HUD, next to your minimap in the top right-hand corner of your screen are the icons you can click to access your character screen, mission log, etc. The last icon is a a small arrow, which you click to open a drop-down menu. One of the options in the menu is 'visit bridge' or something like that.

Just one correction. You don't HAVE to be in sector space. You can be anywhere as long as you aren't doing a mission. You can access your bridge from any space station, visitable planet, space around the station or planet, or sector space.
