Abandon Ship

I got the captain ability abandon ship and I'm thinking "why would anyone use this?" Also, once you use it, what happens? Do you fly an escape pod or re spawn or what? I'm a little hesitant to try this.

You respawn, but if your right next to an enemy with little to no shields that ability can be devastating.

If used this to great effect against very tough opponents (usually 'bosses'). If you are going to die anyway, or if you think you'll only live with 2% hull strength, then Abandon Ship is a really useful power. If you do it right, it pretty much guarantees to take the enemy down with you.

Personally, I've never used this ability. I've tried during PvP, but normally if I'm down to 25%, I'm not going to last more than 4 seconds.

i love using it while in a shuttle.launches about 10 small dots from the shuttle before it explodes lol. its weird.

It's not super useful, however I did discover that if you use it on Elite you don't get ship damage. So if you think you're going to die, you can hit abandon ship, maybe take something with you, and not have to waste repair components.

Your ship just explodes, no special animation for launching escape pods. It is really more of a self destruct than abandon ship. The mechanics of it are that it increases the damage and range from your ship blowing up vs. the normal explosion.

They must have changed that then because it used to be that Abandon Ship had a whole bunch of little escape pods deploy before the ship went kaboom.

/shrug maybe you are right. I'm usually in a smaller ship and zoomed out to get a good view of the battle. Plus at the point I consider using abandon ship, I'm already lit up like a Christmas tree from weapon fire.

Yeah hitting the self destruct is usually the last thing Im, thinking of. It's rare for my hsip to be lost in the first place. And if it is I'm usually a second away from saving it in some miraculous fashion. The last thing I'm thinking of is blowing it up myself.
