I returned to STO a week ago, and have had a hard time deciding on a ship class since.
I'm an engineneering VA with little experience in PvP, but i'd like to get into that soon.
Now, I know people will say "it depends on your playstyle", so here is what i think suits me:
I like being maneuverable, and i like having a trick or two up my sleeves, especially in the control department. I don't need to have uber-awesome DPS, but extended slugfests aren't up my alley either.
So, what do you think, what could suit me?

Maneuvering and a few tricks kinda sounds like an Advanced Escort to me.
You will lose out on maneuvers with Cruisers really. Sci ships may be another option for you, but if you really want to move and turn, you are better off in an escort. You also get the Lt. Commander Sci bridge officer slot in the Advanced Escort, so you can load up a few science tricks.
Engineers also greatly increase the survivability of escorts.

Hm yes, the advanced escort seems good, and the MVAM sounds like fun. What kinds of Weapons and BO powers would i use with that?
As for science ships, i liked these back when i was levelling... can they be any good outside of healer roles? If so, that's defintely an option too.

on my multi-vector I currently run 3 antiproton DBB and a Quantum torp fore, and 2 antiproton bear arrays and a quantum torp aft.
I am using the Aegis set for my deflector, engines, and shields.
Engineering consoles: 35% to cap shield console, and Tetraburnium console for resists (though I switch this one for other resists as necessary).
Sci consoles: MVAM, Borg Console, Oberth console
Tac consoles: 2 Anti-proton mag, beam weapons, quantum projectiles.
Bridge Officers:
Tac: Tactical Team
Tac: HYT1, B:FAW2
Tac: B:FAW1, BO2, HYT3, APO3
Eng: EPTS1, Engineering Team2
Sci: PH, Science Team 2, TSS3
Anti-protons are a bit expensive to spec into, but I wanted to bonus to crit severity. I do like phasers also and have used those effectively on this ship. I just managed to move points around and found I could max anti-protons without a problem on my build. Phasers would be more cost effective though, and the proc is useful.

it sounds like you want to go for escorts but if you really want manuverability i would go for a shuttle i guess but they are really weak in other ways
