View Full Version : Foundry Editor Crashing

I've struggled working on my project:
Vulture Wheel
Project ID: ST-HDAMLUSXZ

Description of Issue:

It is causing crashes to desktop but, fortunately, no data loss yes.
It is time independent. It doesn't matter how long or how short a time I'm in the Foundry--sometimes crashing just after I log in.
The mission can publish fine (and load fine on Holodeck - I've since withdrawn it, after testing whether this would work).
I've force verified before.
Has been going on/off for a few weeks now.

I can't get reproduction steps because the steps leading into it can vary (and it can sometimes work, but crashes about 1 of every 3 times):

Scenario 1:

Log into the Foundry
Load my project
Click on the Map tab on the left
Click "Play Map" (the preview button)
Editor crashes to desktop before preview loads.

Scenario 2:

Log into the Foundry
Load my project
Click on the Map tab on the left
Click "Play Map" (the preview button)
Preview laods, it looks fine
Go back to the map editor
Place an object
Hit "Play Map"
Editor crashes to desktop before preview loads.

Bug: Exactly as Darren_Kitlor described.

Duration: It's been happening the past two weeks (but not before that)

Category: Map Editor (after pressing "Preview Map" button)

Project: "City of the Polmar Ree" (ST-HJGVZQ2CX)
Map: "Arboretum"
Map template: Forest Oasis 01

How to reproduce:
1) Edit the map in some way... e.g. move or add an object
2) Click "Preview Map" (will usually load the map without problems)
3) Return to Map Editor
4) Edit the map some more
5) Click "Preview Map"
6) The Foundry freezes with the "Loading map" popup message displayed... no response, no matter how long it's left alone to think... the loading screen never appears; when I finally give up and try to close the frozen programme, the whole of Windows crashes; subsequently, Ctrl+Alt+Del does nothing and the only way to recover is to switch my machine off at the power button and boot up from cold.

Not very practical way to avoid the crash: At step 5 above, if I click onto a different tab (e.g. Costumes) then straight back onto the Map tab and THEN click Preview Map, it seems to prevent the problem.

Other observations: This only seems to happen on my laptop. It doesn't ever happen (previewing the exact same map) on my partner's desktop machine, which is considerably higher spec. I know this suggests that my laptop can't handle the demands of the Foundry, but I built the whole of "The Spirits of Ramok Nor" (ST-HI8UI4BLS) on my laptop without any crashes at all - and some of the interior maps on that project are LADEN with objects. The crashes are a recent thing - just the past two weeks, when I've been working on the "Arboretum" map (the first map of my second project).

Specs of my laptop:
* Intel Core Duo processor T6500 (2.1 GHz)
* 4GB RAM
* ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 graphics card with 512 MB dedicated graphics memory
