I preorded STO... when it came out I had early access... I got so bored I left within a month.
I recently came back and played for a while but I'm bored again already. I'm a huge Star Trek fan but this game just doesnt cut it. I seriously doubt that this game will continue for much longer. I've decided to pre-order Star Wars instead of investing in a lifetime subscription with STO.
My question is, this game is so expensive with the monthly subscription and the C-Store... where does all this money go? It most certainly does not go into this game.
Over a year there has been minimal improvements, looking at the game as it stands today.. I would still consider it incomplete.
So... I do have a question in the midst of all this complaining... most people who like Star Trek would like Star Wars too.. do people believe this game is going to survive when Star Wars, a game with much (much much much much more content) is released?

A complete overhaul of Sector Space. Several very fun Feature Episode Series. A complete reconstruction of Earth Space Dock. The ability to go back and replay missions. The addition of Shuttles. Several new species. The Foundry. A completely new and fantastic looking Klingon starting area. Fantastic redux versions of Stranded in Space, Diplomatic Duty and The Doomsday Device missions. A complete Gorn makeover. A revamp of Ground Combat. The Addition of Starfleet Academy. And more uniforms than you can shake a stick at (Federation side at least). And much more.
Yeah, you're right. They haven't improved the game at all.
No, I do not believe Star Wars the Old Republic will make as much of a dent in the STO population as you may think. It might take a big bite out of WoW though.

They havent improved the game... theyre bringing it closer to "ready to launch". Star Wars isnt even released and it has at least 10 times more content.

And you know this how?
Come on, man. TOR has shown a lot of videos and stuff, but you don't know anything about how much content they actually have except for what they have told you. When the game comes out, then and only then will you be able to say how much more content it actually has.
Also, remember you're comparing apples to oranges. Just because they're both space games does not make them the same. TOR is a gear based multi-player game with a solo slant and crappy space combat on rails and no customization whatsoever being developed by a company that has taken 8 years and utilized billions of dollars to produce a WoW clone with a Star Wars skin. STO is a skill based solo friendly multi-player game with awesome space combat and customization out the wazoo and was and is continuing to be developed on a shoestring budget comparatively. I don't think one will affect the other in any meaningful way. STO will keep it's niche market because SWTOR does not offer the same freedom and creative outlet. This is, of course, my opinion to which I am entitled.

SWTOR has more content on their site than STO has in the game.
I've already cancelled my STO subscription, this is really substandard.

Wait your playing it.... !!!!! ... Oh my... he is 1337 because he is playing TOR already..
kidding aside
FYI OP... even if it is true.. until you play it first hand... It is best to not make statements on how much content, or how good any MMO is going to be.. because your setting yourself up for fail... A lot of people did that with sto... and well I have seen others who did not learn, and were already calling TOR the greatest game ever.
Let me remind you two things.
1. Bioware is new to MMOs. and they are trying something VERY NEW to mmo.. full voiced single player style experience MMO. That is a huge instanced risk they are taking.
2. and unless your in their inner circle of testing there is no way to know how much content they have other then their reports, and well... those reports are normally not accurate, and blown up... ( at least in my expedience in the MMO launches I have been in )
Also I am not saying TOR is going to be a bad game or is going to fail. It is going to do great, but with any MMO don't get your hopes up... I don't care if it is bioware, blizzard, or cryptic making it. There are not god devs teams out there, and before you say bioware is... let me remind you of dragon age 2... to a good chunk of people. it seems... lacking a lot, and was under quality for their company. ( at least compared to their older games. also remember this is option based. as is all reviews of any game. )
So OP.. it is not good to get your hopes up to high, and not good to make statements like it is going to have more content. because you will never truly know until you have played ALL of the game yourself. never trust the devs with figures about their own games.

Op, I am A huge Star Trek and Star Wars fan but I am not getting TOR because of the simple fact that Star Wars games hardly are worthy to the films (original three) the lone exception could be Star Wars Force Unleashed 1. TOR might have all this flashy stuff but Bioware has started a trend of simplifying games and starting to make them substandard. I hope other BW titles don't suffer this but I dunno.
Now I played this game from Feburary to about May or so and stopped because There was no new stuff for me to do anymore. I came back this summer and enjoyed myself quite a bit. Though you do have to realize that the amount of Devs working on this game is badly undermanned plus they are selling cryptic so I can understand there being some lag in content creation.

Isn't freedom of speech grand?
That said, your original post and subsequent posts border on trolling (in the sense of the way a fisherman trolls a pond i.e. you're not interested in anyone convincing you/cannot be convinced otherwise; you are just baiting people who enjoy this game and appreciate the improvements since launch).
If this game is not to your liking, then best wishes in your next MMO experience.

ok wasn't STO only in development what 13 months before it released? Aand TOR has been in development what 2 years now? yea if i had that much lead time before a launch date i bet i'd make more content too. Add in that lucasarts is supposed to not care what you do what their stuff wheras cbs is obsessed with what they want to be canon and want to approve almost everything before it hits the game and i wonder why content always seems so lacking. seriously if no content was your grip you'd play foundry like most do and deal with it. ii'm not going to assume you are young or try and troll but having a relaxed liscensee like lucas is way different then having a over controlling ball breaker like cbs to work for and with and things like that effect the amount of content and how often it's released more then anything when you constantly have to get approval for things to make sure it fits within a certain companies guidelines or ideals for it's franchise

OP,
I came back to the game in Dec after launch and I have been pleased with the progress done AND what is to come. I am sorry that you feel that way but I wish you the best of luck with whatever game/adventure awaits you.
Just an FYI, "I quit" threads are doomed for Wishstone's Locker.

This ^ (Though Freedom of speech is a lie on MMO forums, one is only allowed to say something if it meets the standards/rules of the company running the forum).
Hell, I'm getting TOR too (still going to play STO though :D ), and you don't hear me preaching about content OP.

Well, if Jesus shows up with my preorder:
1.) I'm going to be simultaneously impressed and sad. Impressed because hey - its Jesus. Sad because Jesus loves a game with space-on-rails combat. Come on big guy - say it aint so.
2.) I'm going to have to send George Lucas a letter of apology for flaming up his prequel films all over the interwebz. If George is hooked up enough to have Jesus handing out TOR, I sure don't want to be on his "People To Kill" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMo_HcRBnUY) list.
OP - I think you are in for massive disappointment. Karma works like that.

I'd like to state, for the record, that I hate Star Wars.
That out of the way, everything I've seen so far of TOR turns me off.
That said, I have not seen tons and tons and tons of stuff.
But what I have seen?
Not too thrilled by it.
In my limited time on these forums I've come to see threads like this a "I'm leaving and slamming the door on my way out!" kind of a deal.
If you want to leave, by all means, please do so. I won't stop you.
I promise.

It won't affect my STO sub.
Why? Because I used to be a part of the TOR community and now I'm just an Australian. Congrats to Bioware for not only killing SWG prematurely, but also outdoing SOE on hilariously bad decisions in a Star Wars MMOG without even having released their game yet.
Enjoy your promised silky smooth release *snickers*.

I find it very humorous that someone, who is seemlingly so dissappointed in this game, just had to advertise SWTOR on the STO forums. That, in itself, will warrant a surprise visit ...........
What I also find humorous is someone claiming to know what SWTOR has already, when the game isn't scheduled for beta till MAYBE September. Furthermore, the game hasn't even been released yet &, right now, has already suffered a backlash due to EA's misjudgement in marketing & distribution. Of course, need we forget, that the actual launch of this game will not go as expected for numerous reasons (reasons I'd be happy to state if you don't mind knowing the reality of the situation).
In comparing STO to the history of several successful MMORPGs still out in the market now, STO has an excellent chance of becoming what we (the fans) have wanted in a Star Trek game. Patience & the understanding of real life limitations is what's key to giving something the chance it deserves. If you lack either, you will always be dissappointed in any new gaming product.
Lastly, STO as made tremedous improvements since its launch, with numerous changes & content additions scheduled for ingame in the next month or so. What's more, new content is already on the table to be added (to my understanding, at least 1 year already planned out). Come the 2nd anniversary of this game, it will be a completely different game. I predict a major increase in players around that time. It's obvious the majority of players enjoy this game & will continue to do so. While you are certainly entitled to feel the way you do, & hence entitled to state your opinion, it should be noted that you are merely one person in what's becoming a skrinking minority.
Personally, STO is a good investment when looking at it long term. Regardless of SWTOR's impending release come the end of this year, I certainly won't stop playing STO. I feel it's safe to assume the vast majority within the STO & Star Trek communities feel & think the same way. If you choose to discontinue playing this game, for whatever your reasons are, then so be. I bid you peace & best wishes on your search for, what you believe, to be a quality gaming experience.
