Posted in another thread that I'm considering flying an escort at T4 with my Engineering Captain, more for a change of pace and to try something new. I already have my weapons and BO layout figured out for the ship change, but am looking at shields and wondering if I shouldn't try something other than the Reman shield or the Covariant shields. I have normally always used a Covariant[CAP]X2 but have always been intrigued by Regenerative shields as well.

Right now I was thinking about using the Breen Shields at T4, seems like they have a decent cap and I like the 5%/5% for bleedthrough. Not to mention a lot of the Captain level missions are in Cardassian space so the shields would come in handy vs. the Jem Hadar.

Planning on running 100/50/25/25 for power settings and using EPTS I and Sci Team I to keep the shields boosted.

Any suggestions? Would a regenerative shield array work effectively as well?

I'd be more inclined to have my settings be 100/25/50/25 and go with the Covariant or Breen Shield and leave it at that. Speed is far more important for an Escort then Shield strength.

Good point...didn't think about that, but then again I have been ignoring my Tac captain and escorts for a good while now so I've pretty much forgotten about the mechanics of flying an escort.

The only drawback to Regenerative shields is that you have to carry a decent amount of powers to harden your shields (i.e. resists) in order to make them effective under heavy fire. I will typically run EmptS 2 + TSS 1 and EmptS 2 + RSF in a minute rotation when tanking (in PvP) which makes them mostly invulnerable though a strong focus+sci or a good alpha can still crack them.

Another advantage of Regen's is that you can funnel all four facings into the facing taking damage quickly with shield balance macro's or Tac Team. The draw back is that you need to run Regen's at a much higher power setting (80+) to be effective.

As an Engineer you can get away with running Regen's in an Escort for PVE no problem, though you will struggle if you PvP without adequate support ships or self heals/resist buffs.

regen have improved alot and if you have a field generator which incease ur shield strenght by 35% + a regen mark 12 your sorted. I'm atm using regen+cap mark 12 plus the increase in shield capcity and its brilliant plus the borg neurtalizer doesn't drain ur shields alot only a tiny bit. :D
