I've been using my avatar since I started playing STO when it came out. It goes with my name which I have been using for 10-15 years now.
I haven't been posting much until recently which would explain why you may not have seen it until now.
Currently I have no intention to leave STO, or to even buy TOR.

Well its unfortunate that our good friends at Cryptic Studios seem to feel much the same way.
Other MMOs I play have clear battle plans drawn for the TOR launch. Massive expansions, new game types, content releases to the max, increased level caps. I have no doubt they will all take an initial bump and through good solid planning they will recover. Quite honestly at least one other I play I do foresee they will in fact grow their base.
Trust me you will miss us when Cryptic looses our subs that they will have a very hard time recovering. There is a war for our pocketbooks coming, and to the prepared go the spoils. :)
Most of us hope Cryptic does have some grand plan to go to war and give us reasons to pay both subs. I gotta say though. I have a bad feeling about this. lol ok I had too....

Gee. I wonder what the new "Cryptic" owners will do to help make fleets (such as my own) not to want to leave.. Hmm..
I'm sure they will actually come out with weekly missions every week (instead of every 3-5 months) as promised to be weekly
or having this Borg Fleet invasion which should be here by now
or stop giving us pointless makeovers so that Starbase, Starfield, or Starfleet academy looks so pretty in hopes it'll satisfy us until 'real' content comes out.
or actually raising the cap levels above level 51
or actually coming out with Mk 12 and higher loot without going to the stupid so called PVP/E Kerrat sector mission.
or coming out with another enemy Faction
or fixing PVE Fleet actions without waiting 30 minutes or more to play
or fix PVE ground missions where we stop dying on 'normal' level
or make it so that our 24th century weapons had an actual built in chips to rotate frequencies automatically (instead of us taking 8 seconds to rotate the damn thing) when facing the borg. I mean after all they've been our enemy for how many years now you'd think our handy dandy rocket scientists could come weapons to rotate on their own
or actually coming out with more areas to explore on the galaxy
or coming out with STF missions that are not just the Borg only and have deeper content that would allow more than 5 players
or maybe make Fed Ships that can be equipped with all universal bridge officer slots
or maybe...

Offering us intentionally overpowered ships on the C-Store, inadvertently or intentionally testing a Pay-To-Win model for STO?
To at least add something to your list that is happening.

If you were right, Crptic doesn't need a battle plan to counter TOR. This is Star Trek. For me the name holds more weight than Star Wars. Don't get me wrong I really like Star Wars. But I love Star Trek.

Why if they have left because they were disillusioned with the progress on STO? With 8 months of no new missions, with a big release full of bugs, with questionable items in the C-Store? What if they actually love Startrek, and only like Star Wars, but ultimately just have to settle for a game that actually gives them something new to do? WIth a game that possibly officers more meaningful choices during its PvE storylines then STO, despite it STO being the franchise associated with the "thinkers" and "intellectuals"?
I think I would miss those people as I split my time between TOR and STO, and think about the input they could have given to make STO a better game.

Well, from a business perspective you know that STO will be dealt a few punches. Then again it is the eternal Star Trek vs. Star Wars theme also. I'll personally play em both but I know that a lot of ppl will be leaving STO to head to SWTOR. And that's still a lot of subs that Cryptic'll loose.
There is one important fact that will play in favor of Cryptic however; Star Wars franchise is virtually dead when it comes to TV exposure (Clone crap for kiddiez excluded but I'm pointing to the mainstream media) and Star Trek is slated to receive at least 2 more movies as they're part of the Abrahms trilogy. The movies will blow new life in all things that have to do with Star Trek, thus obviously STO will profit from that as well. IF they don't go free to play that is, subs is still the biggest mainstream incoming in MMO land.

Your looking in the wrong places if you think Avatars are an indication of how many plan to leave or at least take a break from STO to go to SWTOR.
At least 10 from my fleet are joining me on SWTOR to create a guild. I have a full sized fleet.
I've spoken to many other fleet leaders and most intend to go to SWTOR. Many say they will play both but I seriously doubt they will be on STO much if they at least like SWTOR a little.

My STO experience has been a constantly evolving one. For the first 6 months or so that I played, I never even had the chat box open. I played to do my own thing, irregardless of what others where doing. Then I discovered PVP, & with that the Forums, as I strove to become competitive. Then I joined A Fleet. Then I started using Vent & ingame Chat. All of a sudden I had a New reason to log on, online friends ( this is my first MMO ).
As I learned game mechanics, & proper build techniques, PVE became Laughably easy, & I became A full time PVPer. As I improved, i started receiving the respect of the PVP community. I got invited into some PVP fleets.
I have now gotten to the point, after doing the EXACT same things over & over again, where I mainly Log on to chat with my friends on the OPVP channel while waiting for PVP pops. If all my friends in the PVP community go to SWTOR, I will probably be going with them. I LOVE Star Trek, & i'm pretty meh about Star Wars, But i'm not meh about my friends. I think STO had the potential to be the best space pvp game ever created. I feel sad that (IMHO), they are throwing that all away. If the day comes where I not only cannot get a PVP pop in under an hour, & all my friends are gone, I will not continue paying for this game. I fear SWTOR will be the straw that breaks the camels back for STO PVP. I could be ( & hope I am ) totally wrong.
But with Cryptic seemingly going towards a Pay to Win strategy, & the complete lack of regard for the PVP community that exists in STO, ( no new space PVP content since launch), I fear STO PVP will become a ghost-town.
Star Trek Vs Star Wars, Who will prevail?
Personally, I would rather enter glorious combat with my Klingon buddies, than stinky Wookies. Have you ever smelled a wet Wookie?

I, for one, won't miss 'em when they go.
Well we will all miss them when STO goes of because of the lack of suscribers. The game doesnt directly suffer from overpopulation and when I look at this forum and the ingame CHats there seem to be A LOT of ppl leaving. My own Fleet is split, a few will leave, a few will stay, and I hope we stick together enough to have most of the TOR-guys least now and then come back for sto.
I for myself will play TOR for sure, and I'll see wich one I play then... or even if I play both of them. Still, seeing the CEs price.... well lets just say people switching might miss the "rational" C-Store prices here.
I see TOR as a menace (and not a phantom one^^) for STO since release. Remember that TOR was supposed to be released AT THE SAME TIME as STO. But THEY took the time to develop the game and didnt push a far to early release like Atari did.
STO has its ups and downs.... just remember the time of the last featured episodes. But right now its deffinetly "downtime".... no new content, new C-Store stuff that is INTENDET to unbalance the game....
On the other hand, STO has still a lot for it; the Graphics look FAR better then anything I have seen from TOR, the Costumisation is amazing (TOR will be back to "the worst looking stuff is the stuff with the best values" like it is in other MMOs, and the good old game of randomly pushing keyboard bottons to find a name that isnt already in-use in the 5th try) and remember that TOR hasnt a (real) space-part, just an awfull looking minigame.
Also: the TOR concept is based on "storytelling".... something bioware is good at.... but at some time you have done all missions... and what then? If thats the major feature of that game then it will become boring in the endcontent-area (ok STO has that issue, too, but TOR wont be BETTER in that part, it just will have to fit higher expectations...)
So we will see what to come, but still, what some people said is true: They should work a little to keep people here with offering new content.

I for one will miss the people who leave. Maybe not all by name but at large. Not only because STO will earn less money but because there are less people around ingame.
Myself I will stay with STO or seeing the latest C-Store development at least won't leave because of TOR. I don't say it is a bad game but I just don't care about it. I like the old SW games and SW in general, I also like the old Bioware games but still... meh.
I also doubt TOR will be the great new top MMO. First week people will complain about the crappy start, second week people start complaining about bugs, third week the PvP crowd starts calling for the first balance pass initiating the everlasting PvP vs PvE war, fourth week people will notice the lack of content or missing features or complain about badly implemented features, fifth week... well you know what I want to say. ;) TOR will have problems like every other MMO out there and some time after release people will go back to their old games or to the next new game. The famous WoW-killer? TOR won't be it either.
In the end people (at least some) will come back to STO (at least PvEers) because of the FE, PvPers might come back because they want space PvP or just because of the PvP community, a new PvP feature or some balance passes.
For those leaving... have fun. :) And for the PvPers my pew pew will be waiting for you and with my better experience I might actually win because you miss your lightsabers and don't know of the newest OP-skill. :p

Only problem is that the space aspect of TOR seems to be very basic. If people want a rollercoaster space fighting like back in the 90s that's fine, but no comparison to STO. So basically it is not WOW in space, just wow with different costumes and light sabers. The game is so damn overhyped and people who are frustrated with STO think it will be the answer to all their problems, it's not funny any longer.
Not a big Star Wars fan but also TOR doesn't seem to have what I'm looking for, game mechanic wise. Yes STO has problems and the lack of content is painful, but that doesn't meen automatically TOR makes things better. It will be a new game with different settings and new content, so you can't really blame people for taking a look. Later, maybe 1 or 2 months, depending on how much people will find to complain (they always do) they will leave it or stay, that's the way it goes.

Well I agree on the rolacoaster-not-beeing-space-cobat-part.
But, well, WOW is in NOT-WOW-games often a negative comparison-example. I didnt play WOW because I disliked the setting.... that childish-comic-style ect.
But WoW has at least one thing STO doesnt have: COntent. And a REAL HUGE ingame world. What places can we visit on a regular base? Risa, ESD, Drozana, Defera, K7 and SB siera. Thats it. Everything else is in-mission. Not a real "world" to explore.
I believe thats something TOR will offer too. And lets face it: Space combat is nice, but space exploration is... black space and a few asteroids. Discovering means: Seeing diffrently arranged asteoids.... and black space. Well, at some times, nebula backgrounds. Gets old prety fast (thats why i'm not THAT impressed by the giant eve-world)
On the other hand: for me TOR might even help to keep my STO intrest a little.
I'm currerntly very bored in STO. I just finished my SECOND ENG-VA, wich is my 6th VA all over.... I have 2 additional toons on Captain-levek, one Cpt 6, one Cpt8 and another commander 5. That are 9 chars all over... and I'm by far not alone with that. I've actually NEVER seen so many people with so many characters in any other MMO.
Why? Because there is little else to do. And leveling again and again and again and again is about to be VERY boring too. So with TOR I might get some change and enjoy the "new" STO content, if it EVER arrives, even more... instead of getting SO bored that I loose the intrest in STO all over....

I havent noticed a huge amount of star wars avatars.
Personally i keep my avatars/sigs specific to the IP i'm playing in. Here it's Kirk screaming nerf and trek quotes that relate to STO (my favourite is still Picards quote about their entire universe possibly being a simulation inside a box sitting on someones desk, describes STO perfectly). In DCUO my sig was batman holding ace's hand during her death scene (favourite scene in the whole dc animated universe) aswell as my characters avatar.
I like both star trek and star wars. Pre-ordered and lifetimed the second it was available for STO, got my TOR pre order despite being in the red zone and will be there to play it at head start and if they offer a lifetime i'll probably get that too, i won't however be leaving STO for TOR. I'll play both along with whatever single player games i get my hands on.
But yeah, keep the 'good riddance' comments to yourselves, the DCUO forums were filled with that crap and they're at the point now where they have to merge servers. We should miss every person who, with good logical reasons, decides to leave STO.

One of the things that had me pretty interesting in the game was this:
http://www.penny-arcade.com/2011/6/22/swtor/
First of all, a lot has been made about the new “fourth pillar” of story telling. Is it really all they are making it out to be? In my personal opinion, yes, it really is a big deal and let me tell you why. In the short time I’ve been playing SW:TOR I have already given more thought to my character than I ever did in all the years I played WOW. I’ve had to make hard choices with my Bounty Hunter that have made me honestly think about who he is and what he’s like. At first I intended to play him as a real ******* but some of the moral quagmires these quests put you in just aren’t that black and white. Do I do what gets me the most credits? Do I stay loyal to the person who gave me the job even it means hurting Innocent people? As a result of all this I have a character that is a hard *** bounty hunter who has a soft spot for people in trouble and children. The only thing I could tell you about my WOW character Dudefella is that he was a mage and a hell of a good dancer.
This is something I would have expected from a Startrek game. Meaningful choices, moral and ethical decisions. What I got was killing bar patrons and wrecking a Romulan research facility because I can't decide that I will not follow the orders of a maniac superior that turns out to be an Undine.
So the story and franchise appropriateness didn't always convince me. But the space combat was fun. Eventually it turned dull, so I tried out PvP and grew to like it, and am now a PvP player and advocate on these forums. But this above brings me back to one of the things I love in RPGs - the ability to make choices, and the ability to be an active part of a complex story.
If they can really pull this off consistently and deliver new content regularly, this game has incredible potential and could satisfy gamers for a long time. If they only can do it for a Starter Area or until I've leveled to a non-existing end-game, they would still beat Startrek Online.
I don't know if all this will really work out - maybe Gabe is part of the hype, what do I know? But there might be something interesting to this game that goes beyond what other MMOs had to offer.
Still, no reason to pick a Star Wars avatar. :)

Wow how entirely shortsighted of you. You all think there's a content drought now, just wait until Cryptic's staff is cut because of a severe drop in revenue.
Fortunately I do not agree with you. I will miss them. I have no real love for Star Wars as an IP, nor for a game that plays with a bunch of wizards waving glowsticks on the lolground so I don't intend to move over. But if such a large portion of my STOL ingame friends and fleetmates are there, then maybe I will try it.

Well to be fair: Storytelling got better and better with the Featured Episodes... although its obviously not on TORs level yet.
Also: I believe "Storytelling" doesnt make the long-time motivation, after you played that story once or twice long cutsequences, IMO, are more anoying then anything.

That's okay, many of them probably be back in one to three months of SWToR- especially when/if they miss actual 3D space combat, and space based PvP. (Some will return permanently, some will leave permanently, and some will split subscription time between SWToR and STO.) ;)

Well, a lot of people say that they are Roleplayers and want to enjoy the stories in this game. So it must be part of the long-term motivation as well.
If Cryptic can deliver weekly new mission content of the quality of the last few Featured Episodes (and better), they might be able to satisfy this.
The Foundry is also an attempt to give us more stories and provide people with a long-time motivation, creating new stories and experiencing new stories.
People discuss the content drought this game has experienced since the last Featured Episodes. I think for many the prospect of new FEs is a long-term motivation.
So I think you're wrong. :)
Of course, there are other things that can provide long-term motivation. Normally, quests/missions are not considered part of endgame, unless they are in the form of endgame raids that you have to gear up to, for example. Or having a PvP system where you can advance in rank, or have a PvP system where you gain territory and control and possibly extend your guild.
