View Full Version : Final Boss in "What Lies Beneath" is overpowered

I have spent the last hour and a half trying to bring down that damn boss in the final room where the portal is. I have tried different kits and different bridge officers but no matter what he keeps wiping the whole team. This surely cannot be the way it was designed and I cannot advance to a different mission due to the archaic way you gated the missions. Please fix this or all of new F2P players will bail as they cannot advance and cannot progress any further than LC4.

this boss is not impossible to beat on your way down to the final level there are a few rooms that you go into that have a console that you interact with depending on your class in the room with the boss there are two more consoles that you interact with (one on each side of the room) if you interact with these before going after the boss it does help I have done this many time and was able to beat him in the F2P beta test, Yes I did die a few time but it is not impossible to beat.

Give your away team some hypos (using one stops the life drain where you can't do anything). Use mines, turrets, corners/line of sight to your advantage.

It's also easier with multiple players. Asking for help has never hurt anyone.

Ive tried with another person and we were still almost insta wiped. When tribble comes back up I will try again but it is really frustrating for me and I have done the episode quite a few times and have never had this trouble

Have you tried having a sci with medical tricorder, a tac with plasma grenades, and two engs with phaser turrets?

This isnt hard at all, as was said , sci with a bunch of heals , engineers with turrets and mortars, tacs with grenade spam..

Easiest is probably engineers with Quantum mortars but there are many ways to win.

Can do and have done this on all 3 difficulties (normal/elite etc) without too many problems even using a space specced toon.

Use corners, keep reviving any crew who go down, spam call for help if you go down...

1st priority is always getting up anyone who goes down
2nd is gettign out of the way if he focuses you
3rd is dmg...that bit pretty much takes care of itself if you do 1&2

Done this with any of the following setups and probably more...

3 tacs and a sci
4 engineers
4 scis
3 engineers + sci

how about doing it at LC4? Nine times out of ten you will die before you can revive anyone

Actually fights are usually easier the lower level you are. Low level advanced = cakewalk. High level advanced = final bosses one shotting half of your team with some insane ability.

However I did the mission in question at level 15-16 and didn't really have that much trouble. I might be that I'm accustomed to playing on higher difficulty and you are just bad (I'm kidding. I don't really believe that :) ). A more likely explanation is that something broke again. If nothing else seems to work try asking a high level character (on TTS channel for example) for help since even if they match to your level they'll have twice as many abilities and a lot better gear.

I beat it at commander level, with SUB commander level gear on all BOs, by placing my team at the top of the ramp. Then I went down and aggro'ed the boss and drew up up to the ramp. From there I placed my BOs into fight mode and let them fight. As they died I resurrected them (I was a TAc officer...so no heals). BUT what I didnt do was fire at the boss. That way the aggro stayed off me and I could jsut keep resurrecting my BOs until they killed him.

Played through it on elite (leveling a toon on tribble).. and it was no where near impossible.

The whole Devidian group has had their overall power level tuned back so that it's not so far over 9000. A shame those changes haven't made it out yet, but they're coming.

Thanks for the heads up. ... ::: Thinks of all those Gorn Bridge Officers he was going to send into that run tonight.

Oh well. We are Gorn, and Gorn mostssss eat.

So we shall hunt the boss anyway ... Who cares if we respawn before finishing our mealzzzzzz. :)

They are beatable. You just have to respawn a bunch and focus on one at a time.

You're making sure to use the proton rifle and activate both consoles, right? And run through the last room and activate the two panels for said consoles?

I also get the phased shield from Skirmish, but not sure how much that helps, most of the attacks don't seem to be reduced from it.

I though that fight was odd. I didn't remember it being that hard. Its good to know It wasn't just me sucking :).

Although. I did end up beating the thing even with it being overly hard. I learned a few new tactics as a result so I'm wondering if lowering its power level is really the way to go. The fight irritated me at first since I was used to steamrolling everything. However when I finally overcame the challenge it felt good.

I didn't have any trouble with any of the Featured Episodes for 2 reasons...
1) I've done them all more times than I can count on Holodeck (I fly mostly KDF, there's nothing else to do but replay the same missions over and over) so I know what to do to easily beat them.
2) Due to the inflated XP rewards from missions and the large amount amount of XP awards from DOFF assignments, I was already at upper Capt or higher when I did them.

But they are very beatable just as they are, no way are they impossible.

Ive done them at least 3 times with different "Tribble" leveled toons at low levels with "whatever gear dropped" never had any problems with the bosses... yeah they hurt but my tactics mean i dont have issues.....

IF i get focused fired i use a corner and let the Boss change his target to a BOFF...then rinse/repeat..

Of course you kill the small guys 1st , but this in no way is "hard" , its one of the few fights where you do need to pay attention however...

Id prefer to see the difficulty of all missions RAISED to this level than see the game dumbed down yet again.

Then play on elite, but if it takes an experienced player 2 hours and not be able to complete it, there is something wrong. My main point was to expose the problem with forced progression. I could have waited until I had better gear but I cannot advance to any other missions due to the way they are gated now.

Hello!
I decided to unsubscribe, too, about this boss. By itself the mission of "What Lies Beneath" buggy up to the limit, at first I had three times to perform the task "Defeat the killer and find his E / key" for the reason that the same Encryption key just does not appeared after the (Killer) death.
Some refuse to open the door, three times because of this game restarted :(
Then I got to this boss ("Ball" from Diablo just nervously smoking in side :D ), and then it took me 2:00 time to persuade him to die.

In general one word mission is not completed and is very crude...

PS: But still I want to thank the developers for the game of my dreams
