View Full Version : First-in Colony failed 5x in a row

No way to shape/change the % chance, it's always 50/50, but I've failed 5 in a row and lost 20 colonists because of it. 20 colonists, that's HOURS of searching for them.
There's got to be a better way to get through these chains. A way to change the odds. I know it's not Commendation level because it was 50/50 at 0 and it's 50/50 at 1.
Please either increase the chance of success, or allow us to assign officers that will increase the chance.

even if you fail that assignment you still unlock the next one in the chain... so worry a bit less you only missed a couple CXP

Someone told me that in game, I wasn't aware that it advanced anyway (I'm doing all clusters at the same time and still seeing them). Thanks, that actually does comfort me more than a little :)

In the future, your failure should result in you getting hunted by a hijacked Federation starship piloted by the former colonists you dropped off to their doom ;)

I know, right?
"My mommy and daddy got on your ship! You were taking them to their new home! WHERE ARE THEY YOU MURDERER?!?!?"

Just be aware that each cluster has it's own individual chain and that you will see "First in", in each cluster. Once you have done it for the first time in each cluster, you'll also see "Additional First In" appear...

I've failed numerous first in colonies as well, and the clusters I've done so have not advanced - I still got first in chain assignments in them (NOT the additional first in assignments that I'm now getting in Betraka after succeeding a first in).

The text on the assignments does say "Completing this assignment will open up additional possible assignments within this star cluster"
Failure does count as a completion as I've failed Site Survey and the next one still appeared. Whether "First In" is different I'm not to sure about, although it is supposed to advance on a failure.

Got an Additional First-In today. They don't have yellow text, only the red text all colonist drop offs do. Survey may well advance on failure, I haven't failed one of those yet, but Forward Base, First-in, and Fortify have not advanced for me on any failure, and I've failed them all plenty.

Duty officer chains basically have a field that says, "Did the character get an outcome from the specified assignment?", and if the answer is affirmative, the chain advances. So, yes, failure outcomes (and disaster outcomes) will still advance the chains.

Pretty sure (though not completely sure) I failed first in at BTran, and it let me continue. So dont think there is a problem.. butI'm running 2 right now, so chance are one of them will fail... I'll let everyone know if that mission repeats at that cluster in the future :)

I've only recently learned of these chains and have started a couple (I've completed step 1 in four clusters, and started step 2 in one of them (last night, so should be done when I get home from work)). I understand there are eight missions in the chain. The "Renown" missions, if successful, grants a Unique Blue DOff, and the eighth mission (I don't know the name), grants a Unique Purple DOff, but only on a crit.
Colony Site Survey
Establish Forward Base
First in Colony
Fortify Colony
Transport Settlers
Renown (Blue on Success)
Military Base
??? (Purple on Crit)
Can anyone confirm this list and/or provide the name of the eighth mission? I've so far just been checking and re-checking my clusters for the missions with yellow explanitory text. Is there any better way to find the chains?

Correct.
The second-to-last assignment of the colonial chains is a once-only handcrafted blue duty officer. The final assignment of the colonial chains is a repeatable very rare assignment for a handcrafted purple duty officer.
These duty officers are different in every star cluster.

Since the chain is repeatable, is the purple DOff unique, or can you have multiple? And is it bound (hoping so, I wouldn't want to think that after all that work, you could just buy it off the exchange...)?
Any reason the renown is not repeatable and the last mission is?

Just from what I've seen here, I'd say it's to let people keep trying to get a crit and the purple.

Whats the name of the last mission that gives the purple?

Support Colonisation Efforts in blah blah.. if my memory serves..
However it can appear anytime after the Renown.. so Establish Military base isn't strictly necessary.

Renown has no chance for failure and grants a unique DOff. No point in repeating it since it's unique.

Unless that slacker DOff gets themselves killed.
Also, thanks for the information in this thread. It gave me a reason to go to Star Clusters for DOff missions.

The second to last assignment of the chain is relatively common and rewards a unique blue duty officer. Once you've completed that, there is a very rare repeatable assignment for a purple duty officer. The intent is you get the blue fairly easily as a reward for completing the chain, and then it opens up the possibility to revisit that star cluster and possibly get purples.

Shouldn't there be something about a 'genetically superior intellect' in here somewhere? I am almost positive that there should be! :D

Is there a location that shows times/and where you might have to be to get certian missions? I'm trying to complete the colonization of the betreka nebula, and don't know when or where I need to be for the POSSIBILITY" of the missions to show up.
