Engineer skill tree help

Hello all forum guys
I am new to the forums and searched a while for a topic with a well explained skill tree for engis. But I didn't find any so I hoped you will be able to help me!

When I started playing STO (that was during Beta) I took an Tac Fed and trained him to lvl 50.
I was (and maybe I am still) a bad player with escorts. But the Prometheus class was my favourite ship so I wanted one. (I also made a science char but that's not important or interesting now.)
Since it's F2P I started playing STO again again and trained my Lt Engi to RA LH. I fly a Sovereign class and I am pretty good with it. But I would like to know how the klingones (and when i play my eng klingone: how the Feds) are almost undestroyable with their cruisers. I don't want to be THAT good but a support-tank mix would be a good way to play for me.

Long story short question: Where should I put my skills to get this support-tank-mix? (and maybe BO-Skills).

I hope that some of you will help me.

Your english is good enough for me to understand so don't worry there.

Once the servers are back up i'll copy out my cruiser build on the STO Academy site and post you a link.

While i don't think my build will answer all your questions it might point you in the right direction.

Shields, armor, turrets,. weapons ,equipment

skip all ground skills having to do with debuffs and such

If you do this,. when you reach VA, you will be a TANKING machine, with amazing AOE and single target DPS and be able to heal shields of all players and more!!

Most engineers go one of two ways..

They focus on Weapons/Fixes or they focus on Equipment/armor

Both are good. Personally, the latter is wayyy more fun in my opionion because you can become sooooo versatile!


Pick a KIT that you enjoy and use THAT as a guideline - also, pick whatevr YOU want. Ive had characters with a bit of everythiong and still kicked butt.

those "nearly undestroyable cruisers" are they NPC's or other players? If other players its most likely their gear is much better than yours. if its NPC's, make sure to check your pwoer settings, sometimes to get the best out of a build without royally screwing yourself over in other areas, you have to make custom power settings.

That are other players. And I also think that they have much better gear. Borg Maco and that stuff. That's completely new to me and I don't have any of this items on any of my chars. I also use custom power settings.

the different STF sets can be known by their sheild colors and look of the ships. the Borg set actually changed the way your hsip looks, unless the players turn the visuals off, but i rarely see people do that. so yes, if a player has much better gear than yours, especially the borg set, since it has self regeneration of both shields and HP, they would be ungodly unkillable.
