View Full Version : newbie VA. Where do I get STF missions?

I pretty much soloed up to VA with the exception of teaming with real life friends on occasion for kicks.
I am running the Prometheus with Aegis set and the highest gear I can get on the market and on missions that Ive done so far. I am working my way through the Romulan FEs right now.

I keep reading that as an VA I should be doing STFs.

Are these raids?

do I need specific equipment to keep from being kicked from a team? (WoW was like that and I hated it. I would join a raid and someone would say "you don't have such and such, you cant come") If so what should I be equipping for my first STFs to avoid this embarrassment ?

where do I go to get into this mission set? (name of mission?)

I have been improving my tactics and equipment as I play and I feel that I am ready to contribute to the team play thing. My survivability and really shot up over the past few weeks as I am finally 'Getting it"

also what do i look up for walkthroughs on these STFs so that I can read everything I can about them before I go so I will know what to do and not have everyone "face-palming"

What are some absolute do's and don'ts when Running STFs?
PS what will I be providing to my team besides DPS?

thanks you for any help you may provide me :)

There is a stickied thread in the Academy forum to answer just these kinds of questions. I am a returning player and I found it very valuable information:

http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=246186 "The NOOB Guide to STFs"

Hope it helps you. Also, don't be afraid to queue up for Normal games. There are a lot of not-so-great players in Normal, I've found, and just by reading up, focusing on objectives, and paying attention, you'll probably stick out as a "decent" player.

EDIT: Oops, too slow. heh.

Thanks for the replies, I'm at about the same stage as Engraverwilliam with the game.

Seems i was lagging a bit in the dual cannon department. I will also be rearranging my BoFFs a bit too. I wasn't too far off though. On the guide for escorts linked above it says to have TWO tactical teams trained. wouldn't they share the same cool down?

Yes, they share a cooldown, but the second copy will have a shorter one. First copy will have 30 sec cooldown, but your other copy will only have 15 sec cooldown. Since the buff lasts for 10 sec, that leaves only 5 seconds of 'no-buff' time.
