Ok I thought this up a while ago and it makes to much sense to me.
It can also be used to solve another problem that I will get into later on.
I think that cryptic should take a look at the mapmaker fromTime Splitters 2 (http://www.giantbomb.com/timesplitters/62-271/) 2 the game used a snap together system for map creation if you look at star fleet and even the klingon ships this snap together system could be used.
Also this would allow players to design the inside corridors to more reflect the look and size of the ship they are using.
Interror limits could be set up depending on the ship the player is editing.
E.g. The Miranda class could have a relive low limit and 2 decks plus engineering.
Where as the Sovereign Class would have a high limit and 4 decks plus engineering.
Now for the solve the other problem that I was referring to earlier.
When the player is editing the interior when the player is working on engineering cryptic could program in different warp cores
Type 1 original series
Type 2 Motion Picture era
Type 3 Between motion picture and The next generation
Type 4 The Next generation
Type 5 Enterprise-E
Type 6 Current
Warp cores could have the effect of much like when you equip a top of the line phaser weapon to the Miranda class it loses stats but when you fit it to the Sovereign class it keeps it's stats.
The warp core replacement would better reflect why ships like the Miranda class has remained in service for so long.
Also Holodecks could be added as well as the ships computer core
If holodecks where added it would allow cryptic to add legacy missions from the series and movies.
Such as the Enterprise vs. reliant as well as some good side holodeck missions based on sherlock homes, **** tracy all from TNG, Shoot out at the OK coral from DS9.
Cryptic could also allow players to buy holodeck slots and special missions.
Replacing and upgrading the computer core could have the Different effects and benefits in the game.
Such as one computer core could improve weapons effectiveness on the borg as well as improved shield effectiveness aginst the green ring attack.
Another one could improve shield defenses against torpedo and solid weapon attacks.
Plus a computer core could offer Better defenses aginst energy weapons but would allow slight damage from torpedo attacks.
Well I look forward to reading your feed back.
Biggest plus if cryptic does this less closed doors on our own ships.
