View Full Version : Starting a mission with a conversation

Search didn#t turn up anything relevant (possibly my own fault but still) so here is the question:
I have played missions starting with a Bridge Officer announcing an incoming message and after clicking Accept a conversation with another contact starts who gives the actual mission briefing.

Thats exactly how my first mission should start but I cannot recreate it. The Foundry doesn't look like to give that option and all the tutorials I checked start with a map transition after the Mission Grant Dialogue.

Any help would be appreaciated - as well as any linking to a thread that allredy covered this :)

I don't think so, because the grant mission dialogue doesn't have an advanced dialog editor. Of course, a talk to contact can be your first objective.

Sure, but I don't want to first meet the contact somewhere, I want the dialogue to pop up after I pressed the Accept button in the Mission Grant Dialogue

The issue is - once you hit accept you still need a 'door' as it were. What I usually do if I want to have a mission briefing right before the mission actually starts is have the Boff (or whatever contact you use to offer the Mission) At some point (where appropriate ) - IE if you want to put more of a 'hook' in the dialog, go ahead; but you say at some point:

"[Rank], Star Fleet Command has an assignment for us. We're to proceed to <location of door>. Further instructions will be relayed at that time."

and then as soon as they hit the door system and are transferred to the first map you hit them with a series of dialog boxes that have the briefinng - or have a NPC contact they need to speak too, right after they enter the map.

That's about the only way I've found to do what you describe in the Foundry atm.

The grant mission dialogue can't be a conversation, but the mission start pop-up can be. Just put a dialogue right after the mission start (before the first map transition) and you can edit it in the advanced dialogue editor. The pop-up will play as soon as the person accepts the mission.

I've started all my missions with a dialogue right after the mission was granted.

Ah yes nag is right. I've never tried that. I always assumed it would move the popup past the green box, but it doesn't. That's neat to know. Thank you.

So yes, you can have a long conversation prior to the door.

Thanks a lot Nag! :) I think this should be covered in one of the tutorials.
