Missing ship axis of movement

Recently been finding that as soon as space battle starts, my larger ships, Bortas, Oddessey Etc, lose their roll axis movement, so all I get is yaw and dive/climb. this then stays this way until I reenter sector space. Think this must be a glitch; tried different settings etc but no change. Smaller ships ok.
Any ideas?? Big ships look silly in battle with only 2 axis of movement:confused:
