The question is this does Cryptic exist anymore?

The reason I am asking is there seems to be a bit of confusion, here in the forums. I know PWE bought Cryptic, but all the changes seem to point to Cryptic being eliminated.

here in the forums people seem to call out Cryptic fix this or Cryptic fix that. but if Cryptic is gone then shouldnt all these crys of Cryptic be PWE?

It is a pretty good question actually - with the boards having been changed to PWE's 'default', and C-points soon to disappear, it certainly seems as if the Cryptic name is obsolete.

What part of "wholly owned" is lost on people ?

Cryptic Studios no longer exists as a solo entity.
They are now a part of the PWE family.
Lauded as the North American development specialists of something silly like that.

Why do people keep pretending that Cryptic is somehow seperate from PWE ?
The answer to your question is that most of the people at Cryptic are still doing what they were doing before. Just now the higher ups are reporting to PWE corporate overlords instead of Atari.

Cryptic never existed as a solo entity (at least not while STO existed)... But Cryptic was clearly Cryptic when working for Atari.

The question is, it seems, is PWE being absorbed into PWE to no longer exist as all?

I am more than aware that Cryptic no longer exists as a solo entity.

As I said, though, since it seems that the name 'Cryptic' is being phased out, it does beg the question whether Cryptic actually exist at all.

It's too bad that Cryptic isn't a smexy blonde, otherwise someone'd break it out of the collective and train it to live again.

cryptic name is at the bottom of the website and the very first thing you see when you log into the game.

until they go away there is a still called a cryptic and they can be referred to as such.

i personally doubt they will ever lose the name cryptic. that is their studio name and there is not much reason to change it. pw bought runic and i believe they still go by that name.

Still can be a separate company. I know many companies what have subsidiaries that operate independently. Supermarket chains are known for this....

Cryptic Studios is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Perfect World Entertainment, so it definitely still exists  It's also important to note that Cryptic Studios is a development studio (makes the game), where Perfect World Entertainment is a publisher (marketing, billing, customer service, etc.).

Cheers,

IF the two ever merge offices; it would become a Perfect Cryptic World Studio!

Wait what? PWE bought all of Cryptic? I thought they just bought STO... What about CO and Neverwinter? (are there other games from cryptic?)

Is this sarcasm? I can't tell.

Yes... Both Champs and NW are property of PWE now.
