Vega Colony-Get phaser rifle

I am unable to get the phaser rifle at the Vega Colony. I can open the crates and see the rifle, just can take it. As a result I am unable to advance the story. Thanks

That got me to for a bit, press "U" to bring up the inventory and if you see the rifle on the right hand menu then double click on it and you're good to go!
