I keep getting this error while I try to raise my skills. I have not been able to rank up any of my skills since I created the character and I'm sitting on about 1860 skill points currently and would like to allocate them. I've tried doing one rank at a time as well as many and I am only selecting one skill at a time to try this on. I am also clicking accept.

Any known ways to resolve this issue? I am currently playing a Saurian.

So I went and rolled up a betazoid, and he spends skill points just fine, as doing the missions now is quite challenging without the perks of having spent skill points.

I'm pretty certain it is not a latency issue that effects me. When I was playing at 2am there was no lag at all and still my character could not spend skill points. Were you getting the described error message when you tried to spend yours? Or were they just dropping to 0 because of latency?

I also bugged this at the end of closed beta. Ticket is closed so they must know about it. I got to Ensign 5 in Closed beta before all my unspent skill points really became a detriment to gameplay. I hope they fix it soon! ps saurian too

I would go ahead and make a second character if you want to progress further than the mid ranks of the first tier. I already made a beztazoid and he has more skill points than my Saurian has now. But in the end all the characters will meet their maker come the end of beta anyhow :(

If you've ranked beyond Ensign, then it's a different issue (maybe lag).

It has been determined by Starfleet that Saurians are so advanced already, additional training is not required. ;)

This issue is still very much present, and I don't think it's a lag issue. I've tried allocating skill points last night, came back today, and my pool of points is till unchanged. My officer skills are trained readily and without issue, but for some reason, my Saurian (female) still can't get those skills to train. Must be a racial issue...not many posts here tells me that not many people are playing Saurians.

This happens to one of my bridge officers, she is human and my tactical officer and I can't level her up at all, the points don't stick and they are wasted. Lost about 400 points thus far.

Saurian female here. Worked fine for a while, then a bit before the downtime I had this issue. I would receive an error message, and the skill would go back to zero. However, the points were gone, and when I went to train the skill again, I could train it to its previous level without using points. When I closed and reopened the skills window, the skills were where I had placed them... sometimes.

Yup. The allure of the lizard was too strong for me. Of course, it has to be the one that is bugged. I did an in-game bug report but haven't heard anything. Of course that was a few minutes before my ship got the fist from the Klingons. Don't screw above your station, especially when you can't use skill points to get there:)

C'mon, GMs! Get the Devs working on this issue. It's by far the largest thread (in the first 6 pages) with the most people complaining about the same issue. Please fix this, I don't want to reach Rank 9 Ensign and be stuck there because I can't allocate skill points!

I agree it's nowhere near the top of the list when it comes to critical errors, but it is (to use the GMs descriptors) a SHOWSTOPPING error for anyone playing a Saurian. As the exp status bar indicates, to gain the next rank (of Lieutenant), you have to spend so many skill points. As of right now, Saurians can't do that at all (for their characters, at least).

All I can say is, I hope they don't go about deleting characters. I would be one very frustrated gamer.

We really, really need to get this resolved.

I planned on using OB as a chance to screw around with different skin color schemes for my Saurian and see which one I liked the most, and use it come launch. And no, just seeing it in the editor isn't enough. Gotta see how those scales gleam under the various different lightings in game.

Right now he's medium-grayish with dark red spots.... thinking about a slightly darker with lighter red spots.

Hey all,

Ive posted on various threads about this issue, my first and main character was a Saurian male, i'd done the tutorial and various missions, and decided it was time to skill up, and to my suprise i couldnt! :(. So i re-tried and re-tried and nothing....and as the missions were getting fairly difficult i needed to skill up certain tihngs.

So i created a new character, same race (thinking it could be some sort of glitch or problem with my account), same again no progress...character deleted. Waited till the next day (incase a patch may have sorted it) checked my main, and no luck again. Created a new character different race this time, and hey presto, works fine, so im like wow maybe this will have fixed it somehow, so i log back in as my Saurian and nope.

Anyway ive since deleted the Saurian now and having to play as something else, but hopefully this bug will be sorted for release as i DO intend to play as a Saurian....problem free i hope!.

Instead I have had thise with my bridge officers.
I increase the skills of my officers, then when I close the window, I get that error.
Not only do the skills not increase, but the skill points I used to increase then are listed as used, in other words the skill points are lost.

I'm playing a custom race. Without fail, I cannot apply skill points the first time. If I reapply them, and then submit again, it works. Yes, I'm a Lt. 5 now (with apologies to all you ensigns).

Same thing tends to happen to my BOffs.

I've had it work right the first time, but that was only once or twice, every other time I've had to submit multiple times (I think it took three tries once)

Lieutenant 3 here and my Vulcan was having problems with this too last night -- as well as my bridge officers which are human and Vulcan. I honestly don't know if I lost any points with the crew because I didn't catch the error message right away the first time. I went through a couple levels last night and had the same error almost every time. If i kept trying it would eventually go through.

I think there are two different variations of this issue. There is the simple latency problem (where you apply skill points, but the server doesn't actually get the message) and then the Saurian Race glitch (where your skills NEVER apply no matter what you do).

The latency based issue will likely be fixed along with all the other latency issues once they go live and actually have all their HW working as intended (wishful thinking?). I've purchased things from vendors before that didn't show up in my inventory for nearly 5 minutes.

I think most of the Saurian players have tried everything we can think of. We've read the other threads from other players on how they got things working, and those workarounds don't....work. It's a game based error...and it doesn't even let us allocate skill points. We press APPLY, watch the points get stuck back in the pool, and then look at the error that pops up saying "There was an error while ranking up your skills."

Did you get it to work with your Saurian? I've had the issue with my other chars but after a few tries it works. With my Saurian it just never ever works

In a response to my bug report, Cryptic said it will be fixed in a future patch. Let's hope that patch comes soon, I'm going to be a Grade 16 Ensign soon. :p

I wish they'd just turn off the little skill up indicator in the top left corner. It's not nice to keep teasing me. Also, just hit Ensign 11 and started getting LT. Commander drops now that I can't even equip. :(

Yea, uber annoying, along with the missions that wont complete or are bugged its hard to keep pushing through knowing in the back of my mind any experience i gain is basically useless because ill probably have to delete this toon if i ever want to get my next ship.

It would make it easier to deal with if we heard SOMETHING from SOMEONE other then "Your issue has been added to our bug tracking database, thank you for reporting, bla bla bla bla"

I'm also a developer so i know how time consuming it is to provide valued feedback to each and every bug especially if its constantly reported over and over again by different people, but at least change the canned response to something related to the bug itself. It would help to know they consider it a priority and are working on it. Then again, this is beta, we are here to help them, they aren't here to help us.

This is really annoying. If this issue was identified in closed beta why were the Saurian's not locked until the issue is fixed to stop all the new open beta testers having the same issue?

Also I can't create a new character at the moment, possibly due to the high server load but the game errors when I try. So at the moment i am stuck with a character that I can't progress with . All in all I havn't had a very good experience with the game so far.

I have a Saurion Male Ensign Rank 10 and it's been difficult yet interesting going into missions especially space battles since I've been unable to skill up, because the Ensign skill ups are completly missing and it starts out from Lt. and since I'm an Ensign I'm unable to place my 6000 + skill points. I had a Saurion Science Officer on my Bridge and I wasn't able to skill him up either so I removed him and replaced him with a Benzite and no problems skilling him up. I think it's the United Federation is upset because a Saurion is president and the rest of us get to stay Ensign's until he steps down, hehe. Have reported this bug also and the other bug I found amusing equiping Tribbles to your away team has them wearing giant tribbles as fur coats.

Yea, thats all i'm asking for. A little recognition. I don't expect them to fix every bug that i submit just because its me, it takes time and who knows whats causing it, it could be a fundamental issue of sorts for all i know. I just want them to say "Hey, saurians are bugged from assigning skill points, don't create one until further notice, there are no plans to fix this issue until head start/launch" .

It's the not the bug necessarily that gives me pause, its the way they handled it. Not just this one but the bulk of the bugs i've seen reported, it makes it seem like they are understaffed.

I don't know, it could be me, i've played every MMO out there besides final fantasy and been in the beta for almost every one of those and i can kinda see the writing on the wall here. If they are tight-lipped and unyielding in beta, things tend to only get worse when it goes live, albeit, counter-intuitively, since we are paying.

Not only have I tried (and its always failed), but every SINGLE time someone has asked why they can't skill up in chat, and I ask if they're a Saurian, they say yes.

The Saurians are bugged as a whole, and there is no "trick" to get around it like when it screws up with other races.

Look, I like this game there are many haters out there but its fun stuff, play a full Starbase 24 and tell me it's not fun.

That said this issue has p55ed me off too no end, i can't play the game to it's full potential with no skills. I put in a Gm ticket they gave me the same BS stock answer they probably give everyone. This thread is now # 2 on the Bugs page (aside from the official posts) and no response?

It comes down to this, we want to know if the "fix" will happen soon or should all us with Saurians scrap our characters and start over. I hope they do it soon cuz I don't think I am starting over.:(

Just FYI to some of the other characters' races who get the skill upgrades to work after several tries-- that's just lag. The bug everyone's referring to is specifically related to Saurians. And no one has had any positive response from the devs. This is pretty game breaking for anyone who wants to play this race. At least acknowledgment of the bug would at least be appreciated.

Saurian female here, 3200+ skill points, Ensign Grade 8, can't skill up at all. I've submitted a bug report on this three days in a row, still no response. Seiously, all I'm asking for is an acknowledgement of the issue from devs and at least tell us you are working on it. Same error as the rest of you, however I did attempt to assign the pts a 2nd time and it worked. Occasionally there is also "lag" while assigning pts, so once u click accept wait a few secs and then either close and open the screen (k key) or at the least hit a BO tab and them come back ..the pts should have been set and updated to the UI if not, retry ...if it still fails then hammer the BUG system.

This goes for alot of the systems as they apply to the UI. Many times updating to the UI is lagged or won't appear until you close and reopen the window. I had bank transactions lagged by nearly 10minutes 2 days ago, I ticket that because it was "extreme".

Thank you so much, this is all I wanted to hear. I'm almost Engisn 7, which is nowhere near as high as some of my fellow Saurians, and already I'm staring to feel the pinch of not being able to spend my skill points. Same here, I've tried just a few mins ago and I received an error with my saurian character. Hope if it's fixed
in a patch that the patch is released soon cause I had to make another character just to be able to rank like I
should be able to to begin with.

Oddly, I was considering purchasing a subscription to this game "Trekkie at heart" but with the devs saying its been fixed in a patch which i'm assuming already downloaded not work at all makes me have second thoughts about subscribing or pre-ordering the retail.

It is getting very frustrating to be unable to explore new areas because you are stuck at Ensign Lvl 8 and you can't get other ships or upgrade your weapons.

It's nice that the issue has been acknowledged, but the problem remains and there is less than clarity in the dev response. Has the issue been fixed in a patch, or WILL it be fixed in a patch? Because if it was fixed, the fix didn't take as the error is still occurring. As far searching the bug system, I can't even find my own previous tickets that aren't resolved by typing in "Saurian" in the search function.

This is not only a problem with saurian characters, happens on my Trill all the time. I often have to push the accept button for three or four times to get the changes saved.

I already wrote a ticket about this, but I have to agree to the critique about the ticket system. even trying several search terms, you nearly never get plausible results. You cannot even review your own tickets. I tried to open one of my tickets with the exact search phrase that I used when committing it, but nothing was found...

Even when I for example explicitly choose a mission with bugs that are definitley known I do not get any results shown. This has to be improved and fast, open beta does not run for eternity.

Sometimes I wonder if those tickets really make sense... It is frustrating, especially seeing the fact that you use your customers in spe as unpaid beta test personel... What about a real ticket system with advanced search features accessible on your website? It should not be too difficult to export the error database into one of the available ticket system softwares. Access only for betatesters.

I am playing a Human and it happens to me all the time also. I have to press accept several times. I can sometimes press accept and it pauses for a long time with no error message only to have the display remain (points not allocated) as it was. Then I can reassign the points press the button again and then get the error message but the points get allocated, again after a long pause.

This specific problem IS specific to Saurian. All the species have issues with spending skill points but every other species will work after a few tries. With Saurian's it NEVER works. Not ever. Almost every single person in this thread has another character which they are able to skill up but have the issue where they have to try it multiple times, but with their Saurian there is absolutely no way to make it work. That is the issue.

So if you arent Saurian please dont bother replying about how to make it work. We all know of how to make it work with other species but with Saurian it will not work

Considering that near 100% of saurians are affected and less than 1% of any other species is affected (you are the only non-saurian with the issue) I would say its saurian specific.

Hmm, have you been stuck there from the start or just recently? Couldn't it just be that you are stuck there that's denying your skill points?

I any case, my Saurian has 4,5k points to spend but when I try to spend them the infamous error message appears and it rolls back to 0 (zero).

There hasn't been a patch to a new build since OB started, so not fixed yet. I would expect this to be included in the build that opens up more of the game/higher leveling/etc. that has been stated to be coming sometime this week. The unanswered question is whether the fix will be retroactive or only apply to newly created characters.

You get this message a couple of times. Thats great. However thats not the issue we are talking about. With Saurians you ONLY get this message. In other words you can NEVER EVER skill up.

One issue is one of server lag. That is the one that all other species experience. I experience it on my "unknown" guy plenty but I just try a couple times and it goes through no problem. On my (and everyone elses in this thread) saurian you can try all you want but it will NEVER go through.

Getting this message a couple times or having it not work for a few minutes has NOTHING to do with this issue. If you are never able to skill up then that is the issue we are talking about and if you arent able to ever skill up you are most definitely Saurian.

Most Saurians, no matter what, are simply INCAPABLE OF SKILLING UP!!! No amount of trying over and over or waiting gets the points to stick, it just doesn't work.

Please, don't tell us that your Human/Andorian/Vulcan has this problem, and that you can fix it by trying several times or simply waiting for the lag to catch up, because it's a wholly different problem, even the Devs have stated as such.

I am also still having this issue with my Saurian. I am now Ensign 11 with 6500+ points. This does not appear to be any kind of a lag issue. I have tried applying points multiple times every day since Open Beta started. I can log off and use my human character and everything works fine, then immediately log off and back on with my Saurian and still no go.

I just checked my tickets. The first ticket I submitted about not being able to level up has a stock response and under status says "resolved." ITS NOT RESOLVED! I'm having the same issue. My Main is a Saurian, ensign 5, can't get any skill advances. I can upgrade my crew fine but not my main officer. DIdn't know this was race specific, because I only have one character right now, and if they decide they can't fix the bug for the character I have now, I am just done playing.

that is my point. I am an Ensign, yet I see no skills labeled Ensign. The lowest tier is labeled Lieutenant and they are enabled for skilling up, ie. they have arrows that I can click and the numbers go up. Then when I click Apply, I get the "There was an error ranking up your skills" message on the screen and in my log. The error makes sense, since I am not a Lieutenant, however these skills should not be marked as Available to me and I should see the Ensign skills, but I do not. I am trying to figure out if this is the issues everyone else is having.

NO, YOU HAVEN'T! If it ONLY happens during high lag, THIS IS NOT THE SAME ISSUE. For us it doesn't matter whether there is lag or not, we have NEVER been able to skill up with this character. Period. 0 skill points spent on anything, no matter how much we try and try.

Sorry, frustrated over here. Still waiting for some other Saurian with this issue to tell me if their available skills say Ensign or Lieutenant.

You'll be unable to spend new skillpoints until we open up the other sectors. We ask that you play through all of the content you can find available to you. This will ensure coverage of everything in the sectors before you move on. You will progress enough to advance past your initial ship and into and through your first tier Cruiser, Escort, or Science vessel.

try to put ur skillpoints in a quit sector inside the game.. if u are on a server with a sector were not much Player are..i think it will work.. its a problem with the Traffic on the Server i think.. try it.. i had sometimes this problem too.. in Systems with only 2-5 Players is not much traffic.. try it..

Now that the server is down they have posted some new fixes and a list of known issues. The really amazing thing is that our issue isnt listed in either location. How annoying is it that we still have only had one slight note from a dev and nothing since and they dont even acknowledge it as a known issue even though all our bug reports are "Resolved."

As for you others who now can not skill up, either try the bridge thing or find a sector with no people (thus less lag) and try it again.

My only way I can successfully skill up anymore is if I beam over to Earth Station and do it in there. While on ship, there is nothing I can do with my own skills, yet I can still train up crew skills :/

The issue is specific to the Saurian species. Development has identified the issue and fixed it for the species where this issue has been occurring. Please let us know if you are experiencing this issue on future builds.

I got a Saurian as a officer transfer request or whatever, can't add him to my crew. Can only use "train up" and not have him join my crew.
