Full Res, All Sector Blocks, Sectors and Systems Galaxy Map By Washproof

Well here we are folks, Version 1.0 2nd Feb 2010 edition. Enjoy!

MapLib.com ( Google Maps API ) (http://www.maplib.net/map.php?id=7652) - makes it easier to navigate and zoom (now has every system set as a marker, so you can now search the A-Z list, click the system you want and Zoooom!)

or static Galaxy Map (http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/669/35galacticmapv1.jpg) v1.0 jpeg

RedShirtedExtra has come up with a printer friendly version for you guys!
he has hosted it here: http://ciper.net/sto/STO-Map.png
Thanks RedShirtedExtra!

will be working on the maps light year scale when the servers com up, i figure the 3 keys are in the Regulus Sector Block, if the distance from the Watran system and the Arucanis Arm border reads the same as the distance from the Kassae system to the psi-canis border. if they both tally then it should be half that distance from the sevrin system to the eta eridani border... fingers crossed

Thanks for doing this. There's a typo by the way; the Federation sector near the Romulan border (Upper Right) is Iota Pavonis not Lota Pavonis. (The system directory listing has it correct though.)

not sure if your showing me a capital I (eye) or a lower case l (ell). that font only comes in capitals so i cant change it to lower case.

thanks for spotting that, no matter how many times i scan over this image when publishing, i always find something thats out later on...

was thinking of scraping that list and using an A - Z list... not sure yet tbh

i know there are a few more typo's in there to be found, already noted some of the sector names that are wrong... roll on V1.1 :)

Awesome map :) Here's a question... where's Ferenginar? Is it not in the game?

Another question: There's an awful lot of empty space in the alpha quadrant... has it just been unexplored? If so I'm confused by that, I'd have thought Starfleet would have explored more by now, given it's where Earth is. Or is it just not included in the game? If that's the case, does anyone know what SHOULD be there?

Feranginar on the map would be aprox in the sector space above the Rolor Nebular in the Alpha quad,
its not in the game atm but im sure there are plans to add more blocks, sectors and systems. with evry game they always work back from the full list of content so they can offer it out bit by bit, that way thy can charge you over and over.

Oh yes it needs. But the devs chose that Suritaca's work deserves it while this one doesn't. It's not my place to judge, I prefer this one, but who am I to judge.

Absolutely superb map. This sort of thing should have been in the game. Proper scales, legends, actual system lists - Cryptic should copy this with a little footnote on the map saying 'Dedicated to Washproof for making us actually do a decent galactic map' :p

More seriously, all the user-created maps deserve recognition and good ideas should be incorporated into the game, credit where it's due. Nothing gives a greater sense of community than dedicated people creating resources and the developers taking notice (as a similar example, taking a spin through EVE's system list, you'll find a few user references if you know your EVE community history).

Notice that Cestus is at the bottom of the map for both.

Yep, QFT = Every Map that I have seen points to the Mutara Nebula (referenced in ST II so we know its a reasonable distance from the UFP) and Cestus (being near the Gorn from TOS) being in the Lower half of the Beta Quadrant. In fact, if the Borg wanted to make a good rally unimatrix to set up for an Invasion of the Feds, that place is as good as any. They probably just built out their Transwarp conduit network out to that location and have not extended it closer to earth any farther.

Any place where the discussed maps can actually be viewed? (Links I checked are all outdated, i.e. file not found, etc.)

Best map online is at http://maniacallaughter.com/pages/star_trek_universe_map.php, but it's 2D only.

EDIT: Nevermind, found it. Very nice job!
