It's great to see so many new and active faces in the fleet! Welcome aboard everyone. We've just updated some of our website infrastructure to better cope with the flood of new members. Members from this point on who are completing the entrance exam should receive their results instantaneously.

For those viewing this thread, the entrance exam is a short multiple choice quiz consisting of 14 questions. It helps familiarize new members with the basics of the fleet and only takes about five minutes to do. :D

In all seriousness, we do have a good thing going here, with folks from all over the world. There is a great Teamspeak Channel setup so we can coordinate events, or even just simply chat. As a Canadian I love chatting with folks from the UK, Norway, Ukraine, State side... its the way the Federation should be!

Even if you have no interest in Voice, it can be handy to have it running in the background, just to see what people are up to! We have many members who run with no mic, simply to join in!

Also makes out Special Task Force groups some of the most effective, yet laid back, groups you can find!

Also check out the Fleet Special Operations Group (FSOG). It's not solely for STFs, but more of a group of people dedicated to helping others get the most out of events, but with a focus on STFs.

Ooooh I'd love to see some RP in the works, haven't done any of that myself in a loooong time and think it would be a lot of fun.

I know there are some groups that gather at Ds9, so I've seen a bit of it around.

Hehe, I can RP anywhere, doesn't need to be restricted to DS9. I don't really deal with the segregation of IC and OOC stuff either, being able to implement a RP system that dispenses with the formalities but focuses on the functionality of human communication.

Planning out a mission and working out strategies is part of the fun of RP (my version of it), great for building teamwork and cohesion as well. Thinking that, okay, it's better if I fly on that cruiser's wing instead of charging off like a drunk Klingon... is RP in itself, since the player is thinking of the real responsibility of captaining a combat vessel, instead of just personal in game rewards.

In the fleet chat, a few words in the right place and the appropriate time can go very far to boost morale too. That itself, is a very intuitive form of command-level RP. It inspired me to, yesterday, experiment with a "JJ Abrams" type weapons loadout with a maximum amount of rapid fire armament for maximum instantaneous close in firepower instead of the methodical TNG style phaser arcs.

Ships and captains make much more awesome costumes than just fancy clothes on a station. In our vocations at Starfleet, it's infinitely more practical too lol ;p

{UFP} is the perfect Fleet to build my RP experience in because we don't advertise ourselves as an RP group. It's the only Fleet that catches my fancy due to its unique 'canon' presentation which is highly relevant to the in game environment.

The very notion of being the Federation itself, is self explanatory :3

Yes indeed the fun thing about the Galaxy class is how it makes everything else look tiny. Could land your Intrepid on the secondary hull between the nacelles easily but alas the game's collision box is a big cube and small ships cannot fly between the nacelles.



Now, for a bit of {UFP} Fleet news:

Hmm, so I got some feedback from around STO and some are concerned that Fleets are big and you might be overwhelmed by the largeness of the organisation. A lot have commented to me that the only way to get things done in a big gaming clan is to 'bug till you get it'.

Well I might be a new recruit in {UFP} but I can also say that there is little to no such 'bugging' required in {UFP}.

Everything is efficiently organised into canon-style departments which are strangely, logical and efficient.

We are also working to bring the benefits of Fleet membership not just to seasoned Admiral-level players, but the new players as well.

I can't tell the details publicly but I am working on setting up our own {UFP} support group for junior officers - especially those who are new to STO and need assistance in mastering the relatively complex game interface and officer skills progression.

I am also working on creating easily accessible roleplaying events that involve teamwork and problem solving skills, once again for junior officers to master advanced game concepts, not by trial and error but with a problem solving session aboard ship.


So I would say, in the near future {UFP} will not just have the capability to master Elite level STFs.
We will also endeavour to offer as much resources and time to new Cadets as we can spare.

And although I have also started to use voice communications and manage to participate in a couple of Fleet gatherings... I also notice that {UFP} respects the privacy and personal concerns of its members. Regardless of race, religion, location, gameplay preferences and personal commitments, {UFP} does work around the clock to make your Star Trek gaming experience better than what it normally is on your own out there :)

Disclaimer: I put this last bit in there because 'some other' times I join a clan/fleet/gaming group I get indunated with requests for personal information. Well let's just say I expect Starfleet officers to act like officers... and in {UFP} they really do :3

We may have faced overwhelming odds but in space we simply formed a cruiser battle line and had the escorts outflank the Galors and Keldorns, while science vessels provide long range precision fire support + debuffs.

We may have faced one hit kills from AI on the ground assault phase but we simply used innovative adaptations of present-day infantry fire and maneuver tactics to overcome the AI.

If random {UFP} recruits on a casual cooperative PvE mission can achieve this, what about the veteran STFers? I think they are legendary :)

All in all it proves that {UFP} is not just a Fleet that is known for its history.

{UFP} is a fleet that innovates, via canon-style roleplay that is accessible to anyone. And anyone who is a fan of Star Trek can easily contribute to {UFP}'s continued evolution to take up new challenges and to explore new frontiers, because {UFP} essentially IS Star Trek.

We don't just roleplay Starfleet officers. We -are- Starfleet. Lol.

Oh they're legendary alright...but you bring up a good point! Even folks that aren't huge STO players have a place in {UFP}, from our Elite Force Frag Nights to the {UFP}SIMM and Serial Roleplays, {UFP} offers the most expansive repertoire of activities of any of the fleets I've been with.

Oh don't worry if you're not to the character level required for STF yet we do semi RPed task force operations too - just a few hours ago we flew a cooperative mission in the Romulan theatre of operations....

Theatre of Operations: Romulan
Task Force Activity: Space/Ground Control, scientific objective.

Commander Auslia Tira of the USS Antietam was assigned a covert scientific mission to determine the root cause of the devastating stellar event that sent the entire quadrant into chaos. The Romulans are not pleased with a "Federation military expedition" into sovereign Romulan territory despite the Federation's best efforts of diplomacy.

Under the cover of a communications blackout, and with her warp signature modified to resemble a Ferengi flea market trader, USS Antietam had closed to within 2 light years of the Hobus system, where the catastrophic supernova originated. Carrying a team of WMD (weapons of mass destruction) specialists along with a sizable complement of Starfleet Combat Engineers, she will attempt to conduct a limited space control operation in the Hobus system to find out once and for all what the Romulans have been hiding, while the civilised Galaxy reels in fear of a repeat 'enhanced supernova' event in their home systems...

Finally departing commercial spacelanes, USS Antietam piles on maximum warp speed to close the final two light years to target, not knowing that a state of war now exists between the shattered, militant Romulan Empire, and the Federation, which has been stretched thin policing both the Alpha and Beta Quadrants while suffering the consequences of large scale naval reforms and a large surge of cadets from newly civilised worlds.

Dropping out of warp dangerously close to the shattered hulk of what used to be the agricultural planet Hobus III, Commander Tira readies her ship for battle just as a Romulan interception force starts to decloak in and around the system, cutting off all forms of escape.

Evading her pursuers by flying at 'terrain following' distance between planetary hulks and glowing embers of what used to be a planet's core, USS Antietam was finally cut off by a Romulan D'Deridex warbird which demanded her surrender amid devastating salvoes of plasma torpedoes. Outnumbered and vastly outgunned, Commander Tira nevertheless pressed on, employing her science vesse's superior sensors to precision target the Warbird's weapons and sensors arrays, effectively blinding it.

But with the Warbird's consorts finally overloading their impulse engines and overtaking the Antietam in open interplanetary space between Hobus II and III, all hope seems to be lost when the Federation vessel became the sole target of a combined salvo of at least a dozen heavy plasma torpedoes.

It was just then that all on site were mystified by what seemed to be a small 'lightning storm in space' which destroyed most of the torpedoes headed for the Antietam, leaving her free to turn and engage her pursuers. From the expanding cloud of superheated warp plasma emerged two Federation warships, the USS South Dakota, a hybrid exploration/battle cruiser derived from the Galaxy and Envoy class starships, and in close formation, the USS Agamemnon.

A derivative of the famed Defiant class tactical escort, Agamemnon used the bulk of the South Dakota's enormous hull to shield her from enemy detection while the South Dakota approached the Romulan capital ship head on, her main battery of experimental polaron 'lightning' beams blazing with wild abandon. As the battlecruiser traded blows with the Romulan Warbird at point blank range, USS Agamemnon piloted by Rear Admiral Kaine pursued and methodically destroyed the enemy tactical escorts harassing Commander Tira, who immediately led a decisive counteroffensive against the Romulan aggressors, rapidly beating them back to the remnants of Hobus I, where a secret Romulan military outpost was discovered.

With the Federation starships hovering overhead amid the miniscule gravity of what was left of Hobus I, Antietam's combat engineers deployed assault shuttles and sought to breach the Romulan perimeter shields while the South Dakota and Agamemnon engaged enemy surface to orbit weapons installations at point blank range where they could not effectively retaliate.

Establishing a low altitude geostationary orbit by use of her lateral and vertical RCS thrusters to counter Hobus I's miniscule gravity, USS Antietam provided direct starship support for ground teams while the two Federation warships continued to beat back Romulan warships attempting to relieve their besieged research facility.

Personally leading one of the ground assault teams, Commander Auslia Tira rapidly secured the Romulan base and transported a large amount of valuable top-secret WMD research material back to the Antietam, once and for all revealing the true causes of the "Great Bloom" that destroyed the very own Empire which created it.

Being of no further use to the Federation, the Romulan research base and underground research facilities were obliterated by USS South Dakota's plasma torpedoes as the task force made ready to leave the Hobus system.

Maintaining a tight formation, the three Federation starships of ad hoc Task Force "Auslia" successfully ran the Romulan blockade and escaped back to friendly lines.

Today's featured video of Task Force Auslia operating in the Hobus system (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3s9VC9ouCRc) was responsible for the formation of a new casual/paramilitary roleplaying group of the same name.

It was because that the respective Captains of the task force worked successfully together that we began a series of character development activities.

The formation of TF Auslia bridges the gap between in-game starship/ground combat training, and formal PvE activities run by the STF divisions of {UFP}.

TF Auslia is also where we demonstrate that being resourceful and proactive is the way to conduct truly creative and spontaneous creative fiction writing opportunities.

And once again, if cadets can achieve this level of roleplay, what about {UFP}'s experienced game masters and their established RP systems with dedicated (automated character / shipboard inventory tracking etc) website support?

It is for such reasons that we do not advertise ourselves as an roleplaying guild - we prefer to setup the systems, run them, perfect them, ensure a routine of frequent updates and developments, before even thinking to advertise. Infact... why advertise, when you can lead by example?

And has Ms Auslia shows, Cadets and junior officers need not be afraid to lead in {UFP}. We will provide you the necessary resources and the exposure to run your own in-game / on forum RP events if need be.


Some time ago when looking for a suitable RP fleet I also raised a point - why are people actively recruiting female players into fleets and advertising the presence of 'real females' in the Fleet? Why are male players posting on the forums universally ignored despite strong gaming and leadership backgrounds? A properly run organisation does not require the use of such... disrespectful marketing methods.

Here at {UFP} we do not discriminate. We don't ask people for their MSN or Yahoo messenger details to bug people about their personal life stories. We don't alienate our male players by ignoring them, because across the aisle from them is a lady. Neither do we screen recruits - everyone who takes the care and patience to fill up the application form on our Fleet website is automatically given the same respect and the same opportunities to contribute to the organisation's success, as everyone else.

F2P, LTS, first time gamers, casual gamers, hardcore Trekkers, you name it, we have it. Never feel intimidated again by the size of the Fleet - because in {UFP} the senior officers and community leaders make sure YOUR Star Trek gaming needs are attended to with Priority One, regardless of timezone.

Two {UFP} officers on diplomatic assignment at Deep Space Nine were caught in a Jem'Hadar surprise attack earlier this morning.

WIth whatever resources they could mobilise on short notice they fought their way out to the starship gangways and commandeered the consular cruiser USS Madame Alexander along with a long range science vessel to launch an immediate counterattack.

Deploying in Attack Pattern Tango (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thach_Weave), the two starships kept the aggressors at bay, allowing evacuation ships and shuttles to leave the station safely before a Jem'Hadar battlegroup arrived.

The station was eventually overwhelmed but Starfleet Command directed all starship traffic to Bajor temporarily while a massive multinational fleet is made ready for an offensive to contain the Dominion threat.

I have been in this fleet for almost 2 years, and personally I think it is the best fleet experience I have ever had!

Ever since I have joined, I have been met with kindness, helpfulness, as well as a good team spirit, and support in positions.

I made my way through the fleet with the utmost respect for all the members of the UFP, and I am glad to be a part of such a well organised and varied fleet :)

I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a fleet and group to play with, this is definitely the way to go :D

For months, these two factions have been side by side in STF encounters. Klingons and Federation MUST learn to work together as a F.S.O.G. Unit. For training purposes PVP,PVE will be as that..trainning. Some Joint missions will be announced within the FSOG threads.

All Federation units interested in joining this combined unit of Human and Klingon, please report to {UFP}Mugato. He is running the Special UNIT known as F.S.O.G. a JOINT Operations unit for Klingons and Federation.

We are looking for MORE level 45-50 ranked Federation to join up and be part of the UFP's greatest STF unit within the STO gaming arena.

Hope everyone can attend merTYol's Shuttle Wars event on Thursday. It looks like it's going to be a blast! Here's the premise. :D

After weeks of fighting. all of the fleets on both Klingon and Federation side were heavily damaged. therefore they started to use their smaller crafts for combat. When both fleets confronted each other in Cracked Planetoid. they noticed that their Kinetic Weapons are not working. Some sort of Alien device was creating a magnetic field that disables their kinetic weapons. Therefore they had to use their energy weapons.

Both Factions are waiting for new captains to join the fight. Bring your shuttle or fighter. and Fight for your honor!

No Special Consoles or Special Skills (such as Photonic Fleet or Anti-Matter Spread Console) allowed. Just use your energy weapons and have some fun.

For potential members who are unaware of what Roll Call is: signing the roll call is the only minimum activity requirement in order to retain your membership in the fleet. It's quick and easy (takes less than a minute to complete), and it only needs to be done once at the beginning of each month. It allows us to filter out inactive members so we can keep an accurate head count of who is still with us. We send out a ton of reminders both in-game and out of game to make sure no-one forgets.

Well, the FE is almost complete and we should see those kewl new space costumes this week, as well as the reward! I can't wait! This has been their best effort at FEs ever and I hope they will do more (although Stahl's tone about them was a little ominous).

We are probably (don't quote me on this) the longest running fleet dedicated to star trek gaming. This does not mean that we do not play other games, in fact we have many members who regularly meet to play such games as Mass Effect 3, SWTOR and a rather large gathering (including 2 servers) for MINECRAFT!

The whole thing suggests a seriousness I'm not willing to commit to in a videogame, so if it turns out you guys do not want to invite me I understand. I'm too old to be anything but a very casual gamer, who treats his games as nothing but fun wastes of time (but does not mean I do not want to be successful ingame). I do not know if you share the same philosophy; the application process suggests you do not, but the application process could be misleading right?

All we ask is, at a bear minimum, you come on the forums at the beginning of each month to sign roll call. It takes a minute or two of your time, and we send out reminders both in-game and out of game.

Beyond that, any participation is entirely up to you. We have a really well organized fleet for those who are looking for more, but we don't force that on members who simply want to game.

You're encouraged to complete the Entrance Exam, which essentially gives you a run down about the basics of the fleet and some of the things you should know. You can take it at anytime and it's all multiple choice, and the answers are summarized on one page just before you are presented with the quiz. If you fail, you can immediately take it as many times as you as you need to. While not absolutely mandatory to complete, passing it will grant you access to the fleet bank.

All other courses offered at the Academy are entirely optional and only there for those who have a genuine interest in getting more involved.

We have many members like yourself who simply want to game, and we do everything we can to allow them to have as much fun as possible.
