I would like to know if there is going to be a locked camera option?
There are places that the camera does not lock and I cannot see where I am going unless I click the "Home" button. I would like to see when I am going without having to click a button each time I turn...

Thanks

You can click 'tab' to stop the target lock that turns the camera towards your target. Using the right mouse button works as well I've found.

I'm not talking about combat, I'm talking about the flying in between. In sector space I'm always having to use the "home" key to see where I'm going, the camera doesn't follow your flight line. If I turn right is sector space I see the side of my ship, it doesn't lock on forward, it is like walking down a street and looking at the other side of the street instead of your head turning with you. I think this needs to fixed.

Are you sure about that? If you had yout target on another ship then the camera would keep moving to face it. It happens sometimes when you click on them.

Try again to make sure ... the camera should simply focus on wherever you are moving towards.

And yes, I am talking about in sector space.

camera angels in combat need to be fixed to. Also off screen targeting as well.

I agree with you guys that there needs to be an option for the camera to lock on the current target, or default forward for that matter. I have gotten used to seeing which direction my phasers are firing and steer appropriately.

I try to stay parallel to the target as much as possible to have both my forward and aft phasers firing at once, then when I get the message that the target's shields are down, i turn and fire torpedos.

Another thing I wish would be available is different kayboard layouts. preferably, the navigation controls (left, right, up, down and throttle) in the number pad, the shield power in the arrow keys. That way, i don't have to cross hands over the keyboard to the left half of my keyboard, then reach back for the mouse.

What do y'all think?

But if you don't target anything the camera just stays the way it was facing, it doesn't move with the ship.

Bryan,

You can set your own keybinds, you don't have to use any of the one that are there. Go to the game menu and click on options-->Keybinds and set them up anyway you want.

i personally like the default camera the way it is, as i am used to looking around with my mouse.

however, there definitely should be a follow camera option for those that prefer that method.

just checked. You can adjust camera behavior in the options menu already. By default it is set to 'follow target'.

Yes but there isn't a "Lock Camera" option that would just lock the camera in a forward looking position.
I like the camera following the target in battle, but I would like to see "straight ahead" whenever i don't have anything targeted. It is a little annoying trying to get your next target on the screen when your camera is locked to the positon of your last kill. It is like staring at your kill and moving around hopeing that one of the other ships come into frame so you can target it.

I do not use the mouse, I only use the keyboard and would like to have this option for people who don't use the mouse to move around.
If you want to see what I'm talking about just use your keyboard in your next fight and you will see what I mean.

Thanks,
Tommy

most if not all modern pc games require teh use of the mouse. the only mmo in recent memory that doesn't require the mouse to look around is the FF mmo.

it's super easy and extremely intuitive to look around with mouse.

and you're still going to have problem if the view reverts to behind your ship looking forward, as enemy ships won't always be in front of you. you're still going to have to either move your ship around which will take at least twice as long as simply looking behind or to teh side of you with the mouse, which can be done in a fraction of a second.

i personally use both my keyboard and my mouse in every pc game i play. have done so since the first half life game, where i somehow managed to beat the game with doom style controls, but i noticed i was getting owned in deathmatches so i did some research and discovered wasd and mouse aiming. made gaming alot more fun.

A good point. Perhaps you could put a post in the Feedback: UI forum asking for such as a new feature.
