I am having trouble deciding if I shoudl roll and Engineer and fly cruisers or roll a Science officer and fly a Science vessel.

I played as an engineer only in beta but ended up in a science vessel. The better shielding and manuvering was just more of a draw. Then again I never made it past Lt Cdr so the ships were not very different and I really didn't understand how the classes affected the ships. I realize now how much career affects the ships now so I want to pair with the proper ship.

Now I am wondering if I didn't give the cruiser a fair shake. I like the large ship concept (and the graphics) and don't mind the micro with power management...still I am sure EVERYONE will roll with cruisers (initially and then switch to escorts) and sci would be more unique. Still a well flown crusier may be worth its weight in latinum.

Would the utility of the science vessel be worth it?

Escorts just aren't my thing. Argh! I can't decided! Please advise!

My suggestion is to go with a Tactical officer and surround yourself with crew that you can level up, maxing their abilities in space combat.

Then again, I'm a "Leeeeeeeeroy Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeenkins" kind of player, so...

The tactical officer just isn't me...I like utility.

Both the Science officer and the Engineer offer quite a bit of utility so that is where the toss up is. The question is which are there going to be less of at launch?
