Well I’m caught between a rock and a hard place.

When I first heard of STO I was really excited. From all the reviews I had heard and from the ship images I had seen on the website, I knew that this was going to be a fun game. Even when I got into CB the game seemed like a good concept, an unfinished concept but still a good one. The ship combat is awesome—not at all boring like EVE’s—and the missions didn’t really feel repetitive, or at least not as much as any other MMOs. With that said the choppy graphics and the “away missions” bad performance really turned me away. Now I’m just posting this to ask. Has Cryptic fixed the problems STO had with the away missions being almost unplayable, and are the graphics problems now a thing of the past? Furthermore is there anything I should be concerned about before purchasing this game?

I ask because I may want to give this game a chance. I mean when I first heard of it I was willing to buy it, and that’s saying something coming from someone who hasn’t really been excited about a game release since Doom 3 in 2004.

*The away team bug I am referring to is the one that would make the game a slide show with any NVIDIA card.

If you mean the "Where the $&*%& is my away team?" bugs, I haven't seen it crop up since the last weekend of open beta, and didn't encounter it during the 3 or so hours I was on earlier today.

Very rarely, the server has a fail and it takes ten minutes to log in. But Cryptic is usually kind enough to notice this problem and alert you of it, and then try their hardest to have it worked out as soon as possible.
But, other than that, the bugs are kept at a very tolerable level.

As for Away Teams, the only time I "Bug" on-planet is whenever I'm in between two walls in a narrow pathway, my Saurian officer tends to stand in the way of the only way out, plant himself there, and never seems inclined to move, so I find I'm forced to beam up and beam back down.
But I think he just doesn't like me. :(

I read the OP and was all, "what are they talking about?" Then I looked at the post date and was, "Ah, thread necro."

I was in CB and OB and didn't have the problems mentioned but maybe I did not get far enough into the game? Anyhoo, progress is being made and I still enjoy the game (I'm dragging my feet to RA5 since I'm not sure what I'll "find" there).
