This is pathetic, about an hour ago I was able to play for about 15mins, then i changed areas, and it disconected. Now I can't even get to the char screen. It seems to me that nothing is being done about this like cryptic is thinking *OOOO some people are able to play thats good enough* well guess what....it's not. Cryptic can you fix the game please at least make it so were able to LOG IN and STAY loged in. It's like cryptic has dissapeard and they won't even update us on whats happening. This shows me that in a month or two if you actually get this whole thing fixed, that if a big bug comes up your not gonna do anything about it. I'm begining to think this was a big waste of my money. At least say something like "were looking into it and hopefully it's fixed tomorrow" kinda thing before I bash my computer and regret it afterwerds lol

How would you feel if you paid for a car and were told you couldn't use it right away? That they were working on it and eventually you'd be able to use it?

I laid out a lot of money. I want to use my product. It is that simple.

This reminds me of another great MMO that had all types of connection problems.....oh wait....NO IT DOESN'T. I've never wanted so badly to donkey-punch someone as I do after spending the last 2 hours of my life trying to connect. I did the Beta and like what I saw, except for the crap connection and server drops. I figured "Hey...it's Beta. It'll be saucetastic come the 29th." Oh really Duncan? Is that what you thought? Well there buddy O' mine.....HERE'S A BIG CAN OF STFU and SUCK IT, Love Cryptic.

Oh, and for all the twerps out there that will look at my *****y little rant and "notify" me "hey dude....maybe you should turn off your firewall er somethin" or better yet "Why don't you go back to playin WoW, loser!" here's a little tip:

I don't play World of Wickedly Incompetent Gamers and I get paid more in 1 hour working for a Pharmaceutical company's IT department then many of you make in a week.....so yea....I know how to make a system work. This isn't a diss on the people that don't make a crapload of money. I just wanted to put it in a way that the softies out there would understand. "What's a Softie?" you ask? Well, a softie is a person who sits his or her chunky butt in their computer chair drooling over the keyboard dreaming of MMO lovin all day and night long whilst sipping on the seventeenth coke in 2 hours.

I wanted to play this game because I like real MMO's and Star Trek........at least there's still hope out there, and it's called Bioware.

Its to be expected, these things happen sadly. This was the case for any number of successful mmo's throughout the years. While yes, it can be annoying and frustraiting, its also not a suprise in the least. Games start out rather shaky for the first few days as things get optomized behind the scenes. A lot of the fixes that will be needed can't be made till there are such high volumes of people on compared to the betas.

So yes, expect to get disconnected every once and a while, or have some issues logging in, at least for the moment. If you feel that its a waste of your money because for a few days things will be shaky, that's up to you, as is the decision to call it quits over that.

If you can tough it out, like everyone else, in no time this will be a long-over-and-done-with example you use to tell someone else about in the future when they freak out over the shaky start of some new mmo.

No problems here, games been playing fine. I don't know why everyone is getting their panties in a bunch over connection issues. Its something that has improved from beta day one and keeps improving, don't forget the game truely launches on the 2nd.
Throw them a bone while they scale up the servers.

People should relax because it's not even Launch day. This is still pre-launch gameplay, and until that day that it OFFICIALLY launches, you have to expect connection problems while they get things working.

As soon as Feb 2nd comes around, complain all you want, THAT is your right, but they've mentioned before that the Headstart is NOT launch, and therefore can still be construed as a pre-game phase. Think of it this way- When you put in your retail code and not your pre-order/beta code, that's when the game you're playing is meant to be fully playable.

That's where I stopped.

It isn't in launch yet. If nothing else, the Head Start is designed to iron out the connection issues above all so when the game IS officially launched, it won't have as much problem in this department as it does now.

Any other company I could believe that.

But hey, this is Cryptic, the infamous developer of the mess that is Champions Online. It is also the unofficial new Funcom.

There is no way the launch won't be more buggy and unplayable than Headstart. It'll be way worse, guaranteed.

Hrm lets see? Did I risk getting a speeding ticket to get online, download then next patch for tonights raid? No. Did i get the patch and have to wait 40mins for the authenticator server to respond on a patch night? No. Did I then finally get past the authenticator server to only be on the "Loading Character" message from my home server? No. Did I finally log onto my main character to only get disconnected and fall through the floor of Dalaran? No. Did I get kicked after lagging out to only get stuck at the authenticator server again? No. Well, seems like alot of No's for me tonight. And oh, btw, if you couldnt figure it out, i'm referring to WoW on a patch night, and quite frankly, a normal night of logging on after they did the 3.3 patch that was almost a month ago.
Your logging on to the first night of head start, let them work through the problems and get the connections and the servers stable and be content with what you got. Seriously, if you know anything about networking, alot of times the connection problems arent with them but with the connection nodes.

I got this game and paid for a lifetime membership expecting there would be several issues in the beginning. It's just the way MMO's work. I have no doubt that in a month the major bugs will be worked out. I'm having issues staying connected to the servers as well but it's cool. I'll play something else tonight. Where is my Plants vs Zombies?

As soon as the headstart began I signed in, created my character... And then got booted. As expected because more and more people started flooding the servers. So I tried to get back in for about half an hour, with no luck. But here's the kicker:

Instead of complaining about something all of us knew would happen (unless we don't know enough about computers to expect it), I took a shower, had lunch, and was able to get on later.

In case anyone doesn't know how servers work it's fairly simple, when you get a mad rush of trek-crazed gamers all trying to sign in at once so they can start 5 minutes before everyone else, it's going to lag and eventually crash. The operators have a choice, limit the connections (so that some players have access) or let the thing crash and nobody gets to play.

I just don't understand how people can think a game in beta, or even just coming out of beta, is ever going to be problem free.

My advice is go out, meet a girl/guy pass a little time in the real world and then play when you don't have flooded servers.

Honestly, they're probably sleeping. I bet they've been working super crunch time, so boooo Cryptic management. Shouldn't have rushed it.

I can't login either. Constantly getting a "No Connection To Server" error. Are your servers crashing? Or are they oversubscribed? Or is it the network? Oh fooey, so many things.

Why do you even call it early start? You should call it "payed persistent beta." Your gear doesn't get wiped, but you get to pay to play a beta quality product for the first few month.

Welcome to the Fan Sponsored Stress Test. We're be upgrading our system with your money now, k thx.

Gotta love the credit crunch, minimal capital investments upfront.

I'm little bit disappointed of this headstart.

This isn't anymore beta time, its preorder special gaming time and that means I want something for my money.

Yesterday I created character, game crashed after I played it for 10mins. Then client wanted to start patching for 10GB of data. ok, I went to bed and when I woke up, everything was patched. Now launcher client crashes because it can't patch or connect to patch server or whatever. I'm not really interested in where it crashes anymore because I'm not testing this game anymore, now I would like to enjoy playing the game.

However,, on other mmorpg launcher everything has been totally bs. So this wasn't surprise at all. It's like watching history again painted with another brand.

All those people who are 'disappointed' - that's how bussines is done nowadays. No way any company is buying more server power before the first month is over and the number of actual subscribers settles down.

So far, STO prelaunch has been a lot smoother than ****'s - people had to deal with 2 hour login Qs and if they dropped out for some reason, too bad, back to the bottom of the Q.

At least so far, I was able to log back in after some time - the disconnects bite, yes, but that too hasn't been as bad as it could have been so far.

I wont lie, when I told my bf that STO launched last night his first reaction was "so you're going to sit around for a couple of hours in the hope you can connect to a login server that is undoubtedly going to crash".
I simply laughed, said "seriously, in this day and age I'm pretty sure Cryptic would have learned from the mistakes of other MMO's.. plus... they obviously know how popular the ST franchise is. They'll obviously bring in more computer power for the first week or so".

30 mins after launch, he was still laughing at me. -_-
