Im sure Devs dont want us quitting or making illegal game macros for this but it would be only option :/

I cant recall seeing autofire on away team missions in the beta. I do know there is the space battle autofire and its a handy feature. But if had auto fire on away team would you not be aggroing every thing in sight if it was active ?

Oh yes lets make it so people can afk in PvP leaving auto fire on, then when they get attacked it auto kills their target for them!
Hell why not make an ingame bot option while their at it!, Let the game play for you and when you come back your max level and you didnt even have to lift a finger! (other than to turn the bot on of course =])

No, you would only auto shoot what you select.. Much like in space combat....
In beta it worked fine... Now we have too press the key over and over and over..

I have never pvp'd yet in this game.. However when you had AutoFire selected for your weapon in beta, being attacked did not auto attack back.. You needed to select the target attacking you and then press the weapon number at least one time... They could also disable it in pvp if it ever was an issue..

As said, it only shoots when you select a target.

Yeah....if you cant kill an AFK that's just using its basic attack, then you shouldn't be playing.

Yeah, it didn't work like that in beta. You select a target and press 1 or whatever to fire each time. If you switch targets you have to press it again. Not possible to afk it so maybe calm down a bit eh?

I really want this feature back too. Auto-fire on its own did not enable afk grinding/playing, as has already been pointed out.
Unfortunately the answer I expect we will get is something along the lines of "Petitions are not allowed, closing this thread".

I guess it'd be also nice. Besides, the "you can AFK in pvp with it" is just stupid, as before you could kill someone with some "basic attack", you'd be dead to someone else's specials - which do vastly more damage than the generic attack.

I'll have to pass on the auto fire for away team missions. Though I don't opposite either.
Unlike the Space fights, which need a better auto fire system, away teams only have the primary and secondary fire buttons to use. Everything else is skill based, so I don't understand the need.
Perhaps if I was given a good reason to sign I would. Again, I do not oppose the rights of players in using one as it has no effect on my game play. Even in PvP.

As for Auto-fire in space combat. There I would sign but here is the wrong thread to sign. I can see having all phasors on autofire but not torpedos OR vice versa. Limiting to only 2 weapon for autofire is pointless might as well just remove it, hell i rather plugin some gamepad to shoot all weapons at once with ONE button instead of the Shift+Ctrl+what ever + WASD + etc... I only have 2 hands, not 3 or 4.

I am with you on the space auto fire, but I am unclear as to you objections of the ground. I myself have no desire/need for it, but I understand the desire/need that some people do. Which is why I am neutral on the subject.
Basically, what I am asking is does another players use of auto fire effect your game play? If so, how?

Ground combat is virtually unplayable for me now that the auto fire button is gone. My frigging hand cramps up after a few minutes of spamming that stupid one key.:mad::( I swear if i ever find the DEV who decided to remove the auto fire from ground combat, well lets just say my boot will be saying hello to a very sensitive spot. Not really. But i sure as hell would like to after playing some of those longer ground mission with it gone.
I used to look forward to ground combat as a break from the repetitiveness of space combat, but now i dread it as it means my hands are going to hurt like hell for hours.:(

How can people not want it in? If you don't want to use it then don't turn it on. Let the rest of us who do want to use it, use it. Having it in doesn't mean everyone will automatically have it on, and be unable to turn it off.:p

There was auto ground fire, they REMOVED IT last week.
We have been screaming for autofire for ALL energy based weapons for about a month. No change. Cryptic avoids Autofire threads like the plague. We were over 50 pages of replies when the last thread "vaporized".
I hope you guys get it, but don't hold your breath.

As limited as autofire is in space combat, special attacks like torpedo DO work and do not interfere with the auto-firing beams. So, clearly, they can make this work on ground as well.
Please re-enable auto-fire for our primary, first slot ground weapon attack and allow the secondary attacks to prioritize properly as they do in space.
Currently, it's just tortuous button mashing.

Please bring it back - I don't mind controllign my special abilities, but for god's sake - let my character continue firing on my current without needing my total supervision please. It's pretty obvious that if I start shooting at something, I intend to kill it. At least that what the Marine Corps taught me.

I vote yes for ground auto-fire.
It is very, very, annoying pressing 1 over and over for the basic attack. The default attacks should always be auto-attack.

i will quit this game if ground auto fire is not returning and space auto fire on ALL SLOTS is not implemented.
these issues are DEAL BREAKERS for me. i should not be forced to HAMMER my 1 key and Space Bar for my play experiance... this is not fun, and i will NOT pay for it.

in ground combat im managing the bots positions a lot, and in space combat, im manuvering and managing power, as well as selecting targets in both modes.
so... button tapping may help you sell an "action" mmo. but this is... or should be more then a button tapping game.

Actually, space autofire isn't that limited.
With the right settings, a ship auto-targets anything that fires on them, and never STOPS firing those two weapons.
All that a wannabe botter has to do is figure out how to get a bot to move, or find someplace that respawns in one predictable location, and loot automatically. (Crystal entity anyone?) Then, set up, and wait overnight.

This is the problem with it, there is NO element of suprise, you cant get the jump on anyone, if your a klingon and decloak, you get shot at before your fully decloaked so you take more damage since your shields havent adjusted yet, and your damage is gimped as in cloak your weapon power is dropped.
So currently you uncloak and are shot the nano second your start decloaking and your prey gets first and more powerful strike on you... How on earth can you want this for ground pvp? You want to just run around and blast any enemy the split second he is seen?
Seriouly how lazy is the gamming community becoming, "We need auto aim/fire buttons so we dont have to "tab" for our enemy, so we dont need to pay attention, so we can avoid "stealthers" getting a jump on us (even if that is their enherient advantage that they are punished for with lack of shiields/hull/crew(hitponts), and negates the "stealth" suit abilities since the instant they come out of stealth to attack, you auto target them and being to fire).
If you cant be bothered to actualy pay attention, target your enemy and press your "attack" button, then you should quick playing. Well perhaps if you love dig dug and want a mmorpg where all you do is move... well perhaps a Dig Dug the mmorpg is needed then.
Now if you are talking about an option that places your weapon into continuous fire mode once you have targetted and pressed attack/fire and ends when your target is out of range, dead, or you lose line of sight, then yah I could see that. But as it goes right now auto target/fire needs to be removed also from space pvp. Removing it from ground pvp made group pvp a hell of alot better.

Yes... this is about Auto Fire... not Auto Target.. And i've never shot at ships without targeting them, perhaps you set your UI for that, as it can be toggled... Also this is in referance to Ground combat, not space combat....

All you do is set auto fire on your weapon(s) and in space combat it auto aims and fires at the first target that is close enough for you to fire upon.

/signed although i doubt it will do any good if they decide 100% they dont want people to have auto fire on ground combat. Im old (although I seriously doubt im the oldest person playing this game) I got carpal tunnal and tendinitis and well after a while my hands and wrists seriously start hurting. I got a G-15 but dont really know how to program the keys worth a crap.. Anyways there should be autofire.
Some of these missions require you to kill near or over 100 NPC's and its not like you shoot em once and they die. You have to pound em down constantly mashing keys Not that you dont in other games but in games like EQ2 for instance you can queue a spell to cast after one which makes it easier.
Anyways got my support to add this back in. No idea why it was taken out in the first place. you still got to click to use your special on your weapon that every weapon has.

I don't need a weapon autofire. But a power autofire would be nice. So when the cooldown is done it will turn on a power that i need to autofire while i am busy shooting.

As Ground Auto-Fire was it was toggled by UI screen so either way could use Auto or Smash 1 constintly..
SO It is really just a UI prefferred or not , type option so why wouldnt you want it you may need it for a few long planet missions :)

So people want auto target/fire put back into ground combat because its to much work to press "tab" to target something and actualy press the attack button? This game is already pretty simple, and you want to dumb it down to the point of just having to walk and the game fire at people for you? As someone said in an earlier post (or along the lines of) "What, you wanna be able to go afk come back and have racked up a couple kills"?
Now having a feature where you could enable a repeat fire ability which would keep your basic attack going off after you had manually targetted your enemy, and initiated the combat by pressing the attack key once, and all it does is keep the weapon firing from that point on. Sure 100% support.
Now if thats what was ment then you got my support and I think it could/would be a valuable feature. However with people saying "we want the same as space combat has" who mean it to be exactly like space combat with the auto target/fire at any enemy in sight.... then no, they need to keep it out.

Dont see any harm in returning it... it was a option to have it on or to not have it on... so why not.. I for one will keep it off... hitting 2 250 times before alternte fire or 6 100 times to put out a turret or something is just alot worse then haveing auto off.

Actualy space combat you dont have to target anything, with auto attack on it instantly targets and fires on the first thing in sight. This is the problem with it, there is NO element of suprise, you cant get the jump on anyone, if your a klingon and decloak, you get shot at before your fully decloaked so you take more damage since your shields havent adjusted yet, and your damage is gimped as in cloak your weapon power is dropped.
So currently you uncloak and are shot the nano second your start decloaking and your prey gets first and more powerful strike on you... How on earth can you want this for ground pvp? You want to just run around and blast any enemy the split second he is seen?
Seriouly how lazy is the gamming community becoming, "We need auto aim/fire buttons so we dont have to "tab" for our enemy, so we dont need to pay attention, so we can avoid "stealthers" getting a jump on us (even if that is their enherient advantage that they are punished for with lack of shiields/hull/crew(hitponts), and negates the "stealth" suit abilities since the instant they come out of stealth to attack, you auto target them and being to fire).
If you cant be bothered to actualy pay attention, target your enemy and press your "attack" button, then you should quick playing. Well perhaps if you love dig dug and want a mmorpg where all you do is move... well perhaps a Dig Dug the mmorpg is needed then.
Now if you are talking about an option that places your weapon into continuous fire mode once you have targetted and pressed attack/fire and ends when your target is out of range, dead, or you lose line of sight, then yah I could see that. But as it goes right now auto target/fire needs to be removed also from space pvp. Removing it from ground pvp made group pvp a hell of alot better.
Sorry but ONLY N00bs (well, we're all N00b at this point) will use auto target.
If you're in group, use / assist and attack your leader's target, if you're alone, try to destroy the more easy to destroy first, then the next one, etc. With auto target, you're dead before long and you cloaked Klingon should use this at your advantage, not cry about this. The more ppl will make this mistake, the more you'll win battles.
Finally, I'm happy I played that long in EQ...in this game, you try to play well since a death means a huge loss. In STO atm, you can die without any penalty, so ppl are bceoming lazy. Here a smart one will use this behaviour at his advantage.

Its use in space is warranted because of the greater number of simultaneously fireable weapons of various types, all with shared and/or separate cooldowns, and overlapping weapon arcs that can make it difficult to fire them all efficiently in real-time play.
On the ground, you have one weapon at a time. Two modes, two independent cool-downs. Press a button to fire. It really doesn't get any simpler. If you're straining your fingers pressing this button repeatedly, you're obviously not using your kit powers, secondary fire mode, and alternate weapon effectively.
In short, if you honestly need to use autofire for ground weapons, you're not very good at ground combat.
But I support your petition, and look forward to seeing all of you on a ground map. :p

As it has been stated, auto-fire is target based. CoH does this very nicely and lets you queue a power, but it was not always so. It took a few updates to get this to work. I suspect STO will go the same way.

it was ALREADY working fine for weeks in the OB... they removed it for some mind boggling reason.
the more and more i think about this feature missing, they more and more i fear the later levels in the game. i had made it to Cap 3 by the end of OB, and at that level, the mobs take FOREVER to go down, every single enemy, shield or not, is an absolute bullet sponge of epic proportions, and the thought of having to hammer the 1 key dozens of times just to kill a single foe only to repeat for the next 6 dudes around me, is not looking good.
my finger was has been over the cancel button for awhile, and silly changes like these are not helping to keep it from being pressed.

yeah i think this would be a good idea.. i mean we are supposed to be playing captains and if im not mistaken doesn't the captain just tell the crew to shoot? obviously we don't want an auto aquire target type thing but i would like to be able to let my phaser to keep firing instead of pushing the button multiple times

Signed, Mainly interested in 'Maintain' mode for any/all commands I set in Ground Combat.
Disabling that annoying beep (command is not usable currently) as an option would be nice too.
Weapon Selection for Chain firing (Space - Off Topic) via Fire all/Fire all Phasers/Fire all Torpedoes instead of the screwy auto-fire currently present (and a 'Maintain' mode for space that actually works - currently has no effect: ie. releasing [fire all weapons] does not cease firing weapons set to Auto-Fire even though Auto-fire setting is set to 'Maintain').

I hate to say it but I also would like to see ground combat autofire again. It made ground missions nice and fun, and instead it feel rediculous and pulls me out of the game to have to constantly be hitting a button for a normal attack every 2-3 seconds around my normal rotation. It really pulls me out of the game when I'm feeling quite immersed in the story.
