View Full Version : Stupidly High Prices on the Exchange

I don't know if there are some really stupid people playing this game or its an attempt to make the server unstable and laggy but increasing the amount of stored date (good luck trying this cause it proves you really stupid as well). But the prices of many of the goods on the exchange are a complete joke, you can purchase whatever is being offered much cheaper from an NPC Vendor. So who in their right mind is going to purchase something from these idiots? All it does is make the Exchange unusable in finding things that are of a decent price.

Cryptic you need to make it so putting things on the exchange costs enough enegery to discourage this use of it. There is no way that anyone can expect their bridge officer to sell for 10,000 energy or provisions (purchasable for 100 energy) to sell for 750. So hows about people thing about the prices they ask and make them reasonable or all you are going is filling the exchange with junk that will never sell.

It's day one. folks will be putting up stuff for as high as possible. As time goes by, other folks will undercut them, and so on until prices become reasonable.

I've not really needed to buy anything on there yet anyway. Trusty badges of exploration can get you some pretty nifty gear.

Easily dealt with: Don't buy it! :D
You're new to MMOs?
Other than that: Try not to type walls of text please!

Dewd, I'm using the exchange for extra storage space, I don't want people to buy that stuff at a sane price, I might need it later but my warehouse has limited space so I put it on the exchange for obnoxiously high prices.

I try to be reasonable. It'll probably take a few days for the economy to really even out. Eventually people are going to realize they're not going to get ANY money if they don't observe supply and demand.

That's kind of tacky though, no offense. Not your fault. Cryptic needs to expand the inventory or something. Maybe extra inventory slots could be a reward of some kind of something in-game.

You get more inventory slots (and bank slots, I think) when you get promoted.

Clearly there needs to either be a limit to how many things you can have for sale on the Exchange, or there needs to be a cost involved. Maybe there is. I've not used it myself.

AH storage has been around since WoW classic.

You get 6 more personal inventory slots each time you get a new rank (Lt Comm, Comm, etc)

You can put about 20 items up on the exchnage before you hit your limit.

I've already had to make a storage character >.<

Its how mmo auction houses are like, its full of players that don't have a clue on how much something is worth, its like on SWTOR, I have to pay a lot more then I should, because players just do not have the IQ to learn the value of an item.

STO allows me to just buy currency and I just get dilithium via the exchange, if only there was something similar on SWTOR, it would be infinitely better, I mean, I shouldn't have to pay over 10k credits for an item worth no more then 1200cr tops.

I can always hope. :)

untill cryptic gets rid of the ancient fixed item slot storage system with ridiculously tiny amount of reasonable storage space without paying more cash for more slots, then i will continue to use the exchance and mail as storage,

My food and drink should not take up the same amount of space for one unit as it does for an entire deflector dish.

I was referring to the other person. Btw I think people were prepping for LoR and stored stuff in anticipation. I did the same with a few pieces myself. It is the major reason for the super high prices.

The only off the wall prices I have noticed, are on anything Plasma related.(gouging the new Romulan players?)and warp cores/singularities. Oh well, something PT Barnum said about a sucker born, or a fool and his money....

Why are you digging (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_YMlpWKUTsMc/TI9D3mljSZI/AAAAAAAAAgE/_-1DVfZbwww/s1600/grave_excalibur.jpg) up old threads from launch day?

He was probably bored and could think of nothing better to do to amuse himself than dig around thru old posts to resurrect and watch how many responses the thread will get before people catch on and stop posting so it drops back into history.

Probably at work or somewhere he can't play the game.

We've been over this a hundred times:

Supply and demand: We have something you want, you either pay the price, or live without. Too bad if you can't afford it.

Taxes hurt the players: If theres a tax on the Exchange, you, as the buyer, is going to pay for it... not me as a seller... if theres 25% tax of 100,000 EC.. YOU are going to be the one paying the grand total of 152500 EC... I sure wont.

What we really need is a way to get more than 1 billion ec per toon and have more than 500 million in the account bank. Those are not high enough numbers (no I am not kidding for once).

Energy Credits have a lot of ways to be created but few ways to be destroyed. It only happens when you purchase from items or services from vendor (rarely!), use them in DOFF assignments (very few!) or else abandon an account.

I personally think it would be a good thing to see a small transaction "tax" on the Exchange. I think it would end up countering the inflation we see.

I can almost guarantee you prices will go up. Say i have a boxed ship which is "worth" 100 million. Say there's a 10% tax on it. I'd receive 90 million then. So guess what i, and prolly all sellers will do? Exactly! stuff worth a 100 million will just be posted at 110 or 115.

So yes there will be a moneysink in place but it would only hit the sellers if the sellers want that to happen.

So if this was put in to place the only thing you achieve is that buyers need to grind 10% of their projected EC's just for the moneysink. That's just wrong.

One thing that bothers me the most is the amount of vendor trash posted in there, it clutters up the space. I would like to see a time limit on items put up to exchange... Like say 5 days or something. (if there is not one, i'm still new here, just a week old)

And get rid of all these useless weapons like the Vulcan Lirpa, Klingon Bat'leth and the Tsunkatse Falchion. That clutters up a lot of space.

Untill the money starts drying up, then you would have to lower your prices since your items will sit there unsold.

But a tax won't help since there isn't anything on the exchange that you actualy need to buy.

A better option would be better vendor items, why cant I buy blue quality even mark gear? no one says it has to be the best but [dmg] is a mod no one really looks for so why not add it to ec weapons?

Same goes for consoles and equipment. No real reason the vendors only sell junk no one wants.

Maybe have a rotating stock of higher quality items. Every day at some arbitrary time it changes and whats in there is random. all of it is bind on pickup and maybe shares the same loot table the stf's do.

So some days theres great stuff and some days it's junk.

There's already a timelimit in place on the exchange. But it's alot longer then general in MMO's. Also, you can filter common/uncommon/rare/very rare which filters out the "useless" stuff. As a last tip try to search in the corresponding subsection and play around with the way items get displayed to you.

@ Disposable Hero

I love you're idea for a rotating vendor loottable. Great thinking!
