View Full Version : Can we copy Star Trek characters?

I've been asking this for a while. Still no official response. I've read the naming convention rules. The one that might apply says we can't copy stuff from other companies. It doesn't say what companies are "other" though. Is it anything that's not Cryptic? Anything that's not Cryptic Atari and CBS? What?

Basically can I make a Geordi Laforge, Kirk, Harry Kim or whatever? Is it against the rules?

It is. Shouldn't be able to use those names (OB you couldn't copy the exact name). the Startrek IP owns the rights to the names of their characters.

Edit: There were also several instances in OB where names which were too close to the character names were deleted or required to be changed, if you're thinking of Captain Kiirk or something similar.

Paramount is VERY protective of their properties. When in doubt, don't take a chance.
