Bringing the server down at this time for 2 hours is pretty disappointing.
I understand the need for maintenance, but if its 1100GMT it harms the EU player, Cryptic please reconsider this schedule.
Thanks
oh...bring it back ASAP :)

DIdn't Spock say something about sacrifiing the needs of the few for the needs of the many?
There is a time where it affects the least people, and EU primetime is not it.
Actually, what really ticks me off is that I could hardly play last night because Steam decided that not only did I need to redownload all 10GBs again, but once I did DL it all, it wasn't going to work anyway and just crash on the launcher. So I log on this morning having hardly played (all I did was char creation last night) and I get 30 mins before downtime. I guess things can only get better, but I am quite ****ed off atm.

After what I saw during CB and OB, they always underestimate the downtime. I wouldn't be surprised if the so called maintenance lasted for 4-5 hours.

I have to admit 11-1 GMT on a Saturday is pretty bad timing, Its pretty hard to get a good time on a game that stretches the world.... but this is not the best they could have chosen.

Euro is actually lucky, a lot of games run downtime at 5 or 7am PST (so 2 or 4 hours later). Hopefully one we get going downtimes will be no more than once a week. (And never on weekends, I must say I am dissapointed with having a Saturday patch now that we're in live) I was really looking forward to no downtime till Monday morning, espesially considering overall the 1st day ran fairly smoothly.

FIrst, it's not ver likely that they will patch daily in the future. This is the second day of the live server so they will find bugs a lot.
Second, if this will be regular patch time it's a good time for american AND european players if it's done on weekdays. Noonish in EU is not exactly primetime and 3 AM in US is probably the time with the lowest US server pop.

Agreed this is a very bad time for Europe and UK. I hope they will alternate between scheduling down-time during EU/UK and USA prima time, but to be honest, I do not have my hopes high.

Lmao thats what you get for using steam(ing pile of #@%$). Stardock's Impluse all the way, screw valve!
But really 6am est is deff the best time to take the servers down if you got to take them down. Pretty much every single mmo comp does downtime at this hr so its nothing new to mmo gamers. I'm just hopeing now that we are out of beta that the servers dont need to come down every morning.....

Not exactly.
Its the first day of headstart.
10:00am PST start, first server maintenance on 3:00am PST.
So about 17hours for us to get use of gametime.
its imho fine that headstart on a weekend, but finding the servers down for maintenance after I get some piece of sleep is not really funny.

"Most of their customers are in the states"....er....are you sure about that?
It's easily 50:50 - the EU zone includes the UK, Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain and Russia all of which have some mad MMORPG player counts which may even end up being MORE than the total numer of players in the US.
******** were sensible enough to split the servers into world regions to stop this kind of annoying server maintanence. I agree that 2300-0100PST would be a MUCH More sensible time as this doesn't **** off fee-paying players in Europe who want to spend their Saturday enjoying the game. 11am-1pm is RIDICULOUS if it's going to be a regular slot.

I never said a bad word about this game, but I really need this to get off my chest.
Why doing maintenance in the weekend? And why does have it to be on this time?
Headstart was a failure for those who bought Lifetime. I had to wait 6 hours (right before I went to bed) so I could choose the Borg character. Now I am awake, and the server is down...
For me the headstart was a complete failure. I would like to see some compensation for the LifeTimers :D

He's not saying that - he's saying that midday on EU servers on a Saturday is RIDICULOUS. Choose a better time, Cryptic.
By the way, we're all working to the assumption here that Cryptic are US-centric and have already decided that all server maintanence will be at times to SCREW OVER EU players. If that assumption is incorrect, this thread doesn't really apply.

Call if failure for borg, and I raise it to "paper launch of the year" due to Steam.
Luckily after I removed the Steam version of the client, downloaded the installer and installed a Steam-free copy of STO, I can now select the borg as my character..
.. or could, if the servers were up.

I guess I'm not sure when you expect them to patch that would be better. (Besides NEVER on weekends which I 100% agree with)
Any earlier and you're hitting West Coast US time hard, any later and you are running into Euro evening time. Late night/early morning US and late morning/early afternoon Euro is about the best they can do. 1PM is really well ahead of prime time as long as they get it up on time. (They also could be greatly helped by dropping down to 1 hour maintinence like most games do)

Most companies realize this inconviences somebody in the world... which is why, tadah, they usually have seperate servers from UK/Eur and US. Which seperates us, and I admit, I have friends in UK/Eur and Aus, so its tough, but my friends tend to play the EST zone anyways. I just hope they don't do it during peak, because that's my playshift, if they stay away from the peak times for everywhere, then they are doing a great job. And peak to me is 4 PM - 1 AM EST, which would be 9 PM - 6 AM GMT, so really from 1 PM - 1 AM EST would keep it out of UK/EUR and US Prime Times. And the time they are doing maintenence today, really keeps it out of Aus primetime as well, so I'm thinking this may hurt a few, but is really the best time.

Please change scheduled downtimes to be from 7am-10am PST.
Downtime right now hits smack dab in the middle of the Asia Pacific Prime Times. You do care about other markets, right? 7am-10amPST wouldn't be U.S. Primetime, and it would be EU Early afternoon, which isn't primetime either, provided we're talking about weekdays. Taking the servers down at all on the weekends is an instant kill IMO....

Well the game has kept me up all night so probably a good thing they brought it down. I seriously doubt that this is going to be "normal" downtime considering it is a weekend and I have never known any game to have patch day on the weekend. They are probably just bringing it down to address some of the issues people have had during the first day. Luckily I haven't really seen any major issues. At least it is planned downtime instead of a server crash or some other failure.

Then again i am a eve-online player as well so i may just be used to it as they have downtime everyday at 11 - 12 GMT. i just hope they manage to get the patches down to 1hr if its going to be a regular thing.
on that note...eve should be back up any min so i will occupy myself with that till STO is back up.
also gives me the chance to update my GFX drivers

This sounds like a pretty good time slot to me. Most North Americans would be heading to work or school at this time, Europeans would probably still be at work or school, and being around 2:00 to 4:00 in the morning in East Asia, most people here would be sleeping.

But on the launcher it says down. Notised that b4.
