It seems the difficulty slider and death penalty are active on tribble now. I don't mind the difficulty slider as it's optional to use but not sure about the death penalty. If it's not optional, may have to make a hard decision soon as I really do not want to play with a death penalty.

Having a consequence for sucking...sucks. People play an MMO to escape reality not to be reminded that they have the potential to suck in a virtual world like I do in the real one.

I mean who wants risk? That only creates a sense of danger and excitement...the potential for loss and the possibility of greater reward. Sounds horrible for a game....I prefer a more sedate, boring one....with little to do. Ya know, like one where I spend more time bumping a fleet thread than actually playing. I want to play that kind of game. eh?

What greater reward? I tried it on all difficulties on tribble today found it not to my taste. 1 in 3 times I died, I got a DP. 1 in 2 times I died on Elite I got a major DP and 1 time I got a critical DP. Well you can buy kits to fix the minor and major but you can only get kits for the critical from drops. You can pay at a starbase to fix the DP as well. Also any time you die now is a 16 second timer. Also, I saw no greater rewards for the other difficulties than I did normal.

So where's the greater reward again?

Sadly, I feel that a death penalty in-game could result in a death penalty for Cryptic. I guess we will have to see if they and STO can survive the latest blunder.

I agree the death penalty with probably start a revolt in STO. I'm not saying that their shouldn't be a minor penalty of sorts, but the current penalty on Tribble seems more of a hassle than it is worth.

People want to play games to have fun, not be penalized for dying. lol

Sadly I have to admit that I haven't been playing as much as I was after seeing how much of the "New Content" was in the C-Store and not for general enjoyment. The Death Penalty could really hurt even more depending on how they do it. :(

I've been reading the forums, and I'd say if Cryptic has any sense of self preservation for STO, they are going to have to modify the DP in some way.. whether its with better rewards, or by making it optional. So many people are against it now. I think there will be quite a few less paying subscribers if the DP isn't modified.

Morning All.

The DP and damage is a great idea and a needed idea...however....go this long with a players that can hit max level in 5 days on an total EASY mode game and not have any consequence for death not to mention the Star Trek aspect and this being many's first MMO and THEN add all this in....makes the horses upset as the barn burns even just a little.

I am just waiting for Pakleds....but the longer I wait the more I now fill my time with other things.

Attention Aurora Fleet....due to internal matters that recently fell upon Omega, it has caused a rift in which 3 of my fellow admirals Rowan, Neo and Bedard feuded with each other and has left us, They were along myself and Jezzer were the founding members of Omega from day one. Also the split has caused members to choose sides between the Neo, leader of Pegasus and Rowan and Bedard, now heading Cerberus. However, not all members are choosing sides and are willing to stay.

As a result of this, I am now inserting myself as the interim fleet leader of Omega, because I am uncertain of Jezzer's status, but he is as unhappy with the situation with the other admirals as I am. Whether he stays or not, Omega will be rebuilding from the ashes as I refuse to see the one-time major fleet of STO crumble because of a few bad apples spoiling the bunch.

I will issue a private message to the leaders of Aurora until I have more information of this crisis.

In less than a week, we had recruited more players than we lost, and these new members were more active, and a lot more fun to team with as well. :)

In short, our Fleet actually became better and stronger. :D

I for one am not a fan of drama, especially in group situations. First, I don't recall mentioning any particular people, I simply said we had 3 people leave. Obviously, this was not an attack on you, or your character. (pun not intended :) ) I also did not say under what circumstances they left. (Though I would've thought that is the situtation was amiacable, then perhaps making a farewell post would've been prudent instead of just getting a system message in game.)

None the less, I don't think anyone wishes anyone else any ill will. If you were offended, that was not my intention. Perhaps you were offended by my saying that our newer players are more active and more fun to team with. I will address that as well, but in two parts.

For the aspect of being more active, that is in truth a fact. Attendance was never a strong suit for the three people of which I am referring. As I recall, there was a couple of extended leaves from the fleet and sto involved. We even had a nice "welcome back" for you when you returned for the second or third time.

For the statement of newer players being more fun to team with, that is somewhat opinion based. We frequently team up for events in pve, pvp, and stf missions (every night) and very seldom were any of these three people there, despite the constant flow of invites from several other members.

As I said, I do not wish any ill will towards you, or your budding fleet. In fact, I sincerely wish you all the very best. I even referred a player to your fleet the other day because they were searching for a hard-core RP fleet, and we are more of a casual RP fleet.

If I struck a nerve in any way by what I said, it was not intentional. I am simply trying to "clear the air".

It isn't meant to be jumpy. I'm genuinely glad, if you took it some other way that wasn't my intent. What artist wouldn't like to see the work they've done continue to be put to good use? I was proud of it. I think you took that the wrong way and maybe that's my fault. When Bren came to bump your thread and saw that it did kind of feel like you were saying "Well, they didn't matter anyway." .. Which made me kind of think "Wow, maybe they didn't think of us as friends after all."

I'm glad that isn't case.

At the time leaving a message on the forums didn't seem appropriate. After the crap left by a certain PvP officer when they left it just didn't seem like it would be right. Saying goodbye in real time seemed better than leaving a message and sneaking out the back door. It felt like that would be an insult to people we consider our friends. We felt like everyone deserved more than a simple forum post and then go.

I would rather have a real time good bye from someone than a letter. :(

No offense taken Strom. My biggest issue was that we really did try to leave with no drama. I sent goodbye posts to my old peers, didn't make a fuss and tried to leave with a little dignity on both sides. Aurora was my home from the very start, and it wasn't a decision I made lightly. It just wasn't for me anymore. I guess I just didn't see quite the correlation with Omega's issues to our decision to leave AF. To get into anything deeper than that doesn't have a place on these forums, so I'll move on.

Anyway, I'm glad you have had a surge in recruiting, we've had good luck as well. There are a lot of great people in the STO community, and it seems both our fleets have had luck in that regard.

We do appreciate the referrals by the way, I've sent a couple to you as well. I wouldn't call us hardcore RP, we're medium to heavy depending as the mood strikes us, and the Hydra fleetmembers seem pretty happy with the balance between caual and heavy playstyles.

I'm aware that the history between a few of our members who were previous AF founding officers may give cause for some strange feelings between our fleets. I've just always felt that until feeling passed, it was best not referred to here on the STO forums. I guess it just shocked me a bit when I went to say hello and found references to our split. I appreciate that it was veiled, but it still felt as if we had been targeted a bit. Thanks for taking the time to explain that you didn't mean it that way.

Ultimately, I still have a lot of people I consider comrades in AF, an I hope that someday Hydra and AF can move past any hurt feelings and perhaps become close friends and compatriots. Until then, I hope you, Joslin, and the other leaders in AF know I'm always willing to help however I can.

I want to apologize for all the drama that has arisen this past week from the massive split within Omega Fleet. This was quite unexpected and to say the least in poor taste in the part of the perpetrators. The situation that lead to this split was quite minor and could have been resolved if certain former members of Omega Fleet displayed greater levels of patience and tact.

Nonetheless Omega Fleet will continue! We are a name that is known throughout the STO community through many of our current and former esteemed members. To completely give up hope and waste the hundreds if not thousands of man-hours put forth by many within our dedicated member base is unacceptable to say the least.

You have my word that Omega Fleet will continue to exist - albeit in a diminished capacity - throughout this game's existence. I personally have a lifetime membership and will not be going anywhere else within the realm of STO.

Effective 00:01 EST Monday, June 14th 2010 I will assume leadership of Omega Fleet. For the interim Captain_Farrior will be assuming leadership of Omega Fleet.

Joslin: "Thats the most you can tell me?? Try inversing the ionic particle stream to emit a rapidly decaying tachyon field that should isolate any subnucleonic particles and extrapolate the covalent bond strength of the mass. That just might tell us the isolinear properties of the cloud so that we can perform a comparitive similation which would allow us to move off safely. Then..."

Greetings fellow allies. Today marks the official new beginning for Omega Fleet. Due to the nature of the controversy that created havoc within the founding ranks that caused much of my fellow esteemed staff to depart, we have banned our former leader Neo indefinitely from further contact with our fleet.

Jezzer and myself feel that in our point of view, he was largely responsible for the meltdown and should have not only set an example in being a leader, but should have handled the matter with a little more objectivity. We feel his presence would create more ripples in the water than there already is.

Timper: "Unknown configuration? What else can you tell me?"

Tacita: "It is composed of an unknown alloy, and is a perfectly hexagonal. Permission to fire sir?"

Timper: "Let's see what they want. Open a channel."

Duckman: "Channel open. Sir, incoming transmission. Audio only."

Tacita: "Permission to fire sir?"

Comm: "WE ARE THE BORG. YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE."

Duckman: "Its a new type of borg ship!!"

Tacita: "Permission to fire sir?"

Duckman: "Sir?... Sir?..Where'd he go? Computer, locate Admiral Timper."

Computer: "Admiral Timper is exiting shuttle bay one."
