No offense, but it's an MMO. I've played probably a dozen or so MMO's from launch. With not a single exception, every single one had unscheduled downtime during release week.
So far, I've only experienced one crash, in about 12 hrs of playing time. That's actually ahead of the game for most MMO's in my experience (out of major MMO's released, I'd say EQ, SWG, WOW, Anarchy Online, **** were all worse during launch week).

yes I did, and the game actually regressed. Some minor issues were fixed, but they introduced more and more bugs towards the end. I haven't gotten to the same point yet as I was when I stopped in OB, but I'm sure they're still there as some people have encountered some already that were there.
Yes heaven forbid the game not be perfect at launch, because it should be, thats what betas are for, to find the bugs.

You really don't know jack ***** about programming, do you? If betas found every single bug there was to be found, they'd never patch games. Hell, Blizzard still patches Starcraft after all of these years.
When you figure out how to write bug-free code on your first pass, come back to this topic. Until then, GTFO.

note, NO game is ever perfect bug free , 100% great launch, so wtf do you expect? 2nd of all, kinda hard to find you played beta, and thinking they ONLY fixed minor issues and it got worse towards the end, i was in closed beta and that was the worse part.
So what the servers went down, I dread to think of how many OTHER mmo's had the same thing happen to them hmmmm..... i wonder.........
2nd note, uninstall go play Tetris

Really for MMO's it isn't. Closed beta is for getting initial out of house opinions on the game, get a feel for if the UI you think is intuitive feels that way for the user, see how people take the news that you can only fire one torpedo tube at a time, etc.
Open Beta is more for stress testing the server than for finding bugs. Finding bugs is nice, but more important is getting the server running well. No game designer is going to expect a project this big to ship bug free, especially when they only had 18 months to build it. This is my 5th MMO Beta/launch, and none of them have been perfect.
Just do what we all do, take a deep breath, make yourself some hot earl grey tea, and let the dev's do their job.

game balancing issues does not equal bugs! When you patch for game balancing maybe you introduce a new bug. Contnet patches are not bugs, but sometimes they introduce them. Your logic fails. Of course Blizz patches, they want you to play forever. The launch code should be bug free, they had 2 years supposedly to get it right. Closed beta, I assume only once. Open beta. They should have had more beta sessions with more people in closed.

Please link the list of MMO's that have experienced bug-free, smooth sailing at launch. It must be a huge list since you're SO sure this game is going to fail...either that or you're the best game developer on the planet. You can go on and on all you want about flaws and what YOU think 'should' be in the game, but the bottom line is, unless you're on the dev team for this game, you can't unequivocally claim that the game is not ready, which is pretty much what you're doing. Hey, I drive cars everyday, but I'm not going to walk into a ford designer's office and tell him his new truck should be pulled off the assembly line because i think it's not finished. I guess what I'm trying to say is get your head out of your ass, and if you're so sure this game will fail then just leave now, you'll be saving yourself time and money, and those of us who are enjoying the game won't have to listen you you anymore, everyone wins!

I love how all the people who think that we're fanbois for defending this are obviously new to MMO launches, and have only played WoW after BC came out, or play all those Korean MMOs that pop out every time you blink.
They arent used to an MMO launch which is relatively buggy, which this launch really wasnt.
Oh Boy, we had 45 minutes of downtime yesterday, Lets rage on the forums about a bad launch. Oh No! Servers crashed today! Lets all rage on the forums about a bad launch.

From what I have seen in other threads the excuses are the same as they where a few days ago. Someone even said that this was still BETA.
We all knew that the game was not ready for release. We all knew the servers where not ready. We even told the company this many times in this forum.
If I where to do the same thing with my customers / users at work, I would loose my job.
I do not fault the devs on this. They are doing a thankless job right now. I fault Atari and Cryptic for not taking into account the number of people who would play this game. The Star Trek univers has over 40 years of fans. Not to mention people who simply like to play MMORPG games.
I had very high hopes for this game and what I have seen so far has me worried.
The fanboi's do not help here either. The excuses that this is beta, or that this is not the official launch do not work because this is the official launch and if they can not handle the number of people who pre-ordered, what hope to they have of supporting those who purchase the game on Feb 2nd?
Yes, people are going to "complain" about the game. As they should. At least it shows that they are concerned enough to post something that they would like to see fixed.
I can not abide apologists and apeasers. Apologists and appeasers have let some of the worst things in history come to pass.
If something is wrong it should be commented on and if possible, made right.

I do believe the original poster is simply stating that it would be nice to have a finished, polished product this close to the launch date. I don't think that they're arguing that other games haven't experience these exact issues.
But the major theme is, don't defend something to it's own detriment. The criticism and feedback, though not always polite or relevant, must be shared, period.
Don't criticize to the point of pessimism. You cannot in all reason think that something is going to be perfect, ever.
So why argue and hurl petty insults? It accomplishes nothing, they're sitting anonymous behind a computer screen the same as you. It's astonishing that people are so brave when they don't have their own integrity on the line.

When servers go down unexpectedly, I do something else until the come up, or just go do something else altogether. The interwebs is an imperfect science and, 'stuff happens'.
I haven't developed a sense of entitlement which demands imperfect levels of perfection from everyone else, just because I'm me and happened to be there.

Given that this is the first downtime I've experienced in approximately 20 hours of play, I'd call this an extremelty successful launch.

I was attempting to make a light hearted thread, but instead got bashed by the fanbois for not bowing to their superior greatness and allowing the game to sink in a cesspool of bugs and crashes.
You are all right, much better to be a fanboi ane let the game die.
This is what a fanboi gets you, supposedly IGN and gamestop are thrashing STO.
If we had less fanbois and less coporations pushing the game to be launched by X date no matter what, then we would have a quality product that would be flourishing, not being killed by companies reviewing it right now.

Look we get it. The OP wants to vent. While I gather the OP did their due diligence during beta and reported bugs and stuff earnestly (not being sarcastic), the OP is also frustrated that things aren't as shiny and perfected as he had hoped/wished. I tried to be diligent during my OB time, flagging problems and sure, I'm disappointed things aren't perfect, but for whatever reason, it doesn't spark in me the same need to rageout and troll the 'fanbois' group that has nothing to do with the state of the game.
Its also a pretty simply internet forum rule. You troll, you get flamed.

I'm curious: What will the people who call everyone who isn't complaining like they are a 'fanboi' say when the dooooooooooom they portend is inevitable doesn't come to pass?
And, fwiw, if there are people out there who will let a review in a magazine make up their minds for them, well, we're better off without that demographic in game I think.
