Has anyone noticed that STO PC & Technical forum is almost twice as big as STO General Discussions one. That speaks for itself... :(

I would think that at release, MMO forums would have a huge following in the Tech Support subforums.
This downtime sucks though.

better server down time than game fragging your os requiring a total reformat, like in the ao open beta.

Star Trek Online = STO
Server Down Online = SDO
STO =/= SDO
---------------------------------
FAIL
People make games like this because they want others to have fun. The Devs WANT us to play and enjoy ourselves, so stop whining about something they already know about

They make games like this to take your money. They need to put food on the table, after all.
They may know about this problem already, but from what I've been gathering, this should have been known already and prepared for. If it was due to player load, then as others pointed out, they should have known from the preorders, number of open beta players, and those that took a very early leap of faith and did "lifetime subscription," exactly how much they need to be ready for.
We're on headstart. In THREE DAYS this game is LIVE for the regular gaming community and run of the mill Star Trek fan who may not have been into MMOs before. If Cryptic wasn't prepared in Open Beta and in Headstart, what makes you think they'll be good in THREE DAYS?
I'll be honest: I have alot of money right now which I'm EAGER to pay Cryptic for a Lifetime Sub. But with this very narrow window Cryptic is allowing for it, which ends on the 1st, less than 2 days from now, they need to give me justification. I've been through enough "Big Name MMO Releases" where I've been burned given enough time. Not forking out money like that so eagerly, so blindly anymore.

Yes, and the vast majority of the money they make will be through monthly payments, not from our pre-orders.

It is not like they can magically increase the server load. They have ordered more machines, but those take time to arrive and get set up. What's more is that people are still pre-ordering, and so the number of potential players during the head start is continuing to rise. Their current capabilities may have been sufficient a day ago, but the sudden influx of players has likely dramatically increased past what they thought they would be ready for.

Because in THREE DAYS the machines they ordered will have arrived and been set up.

Then don't. It is not like Cryptic has a strongman behind you ready to pulverize your skull if you don't get the lifetime subscription (at least I hope they don't). If you are unsure, hold off and see how successful the game becomes. You may miss out on the life time and its extras, but then you will have that justification you want.

login server just pooped itself again. I wonder if it had diapers.
