Why: Starfleet is organizing a meet and greet to network with fellow new ship commanders and officers. As some crews have been serving in deep space or are preparing to do so, Starfleet Command is working to improve morale and help new commanders get to know other officers.

Important info: This event is completely In Character. Please keep OOC messages to teams or private messages. I think it would be good for RPers who are interested in meeting up and getting to know each other. Feel free to make parties and talk within them, but be respectful of all RPers.

I'm going to be entering STO for the first time when it comes out tomorrow (I pre-ordered it, but I only pre-ordered the basic package). I doubt I'll be able to get the ship I want in the two days between then and your event (I want a Vigilant-Class :D:cool:), but would that matter? :confused:

Im what some would consider a "light RPer". I enjoy RP, and do it from time to time, but don't see the need of protecting the 4th wall by adding (( )) or [ ] to my sentence.

starbas one is full of noobies and tons of spam, and the instances are packed usually.. DS9 you can grab an instance and fit a lota people with out a problem. No worry about spill overs and such

A few things here. This event sounds great, but Starbase 1, ala Earth Space Dock is just ASKING for trouble.

While I applaud the efforts at having a channel to join for coordinating efforts, having an OOC channel for RP seems a bit silly to me. At the risk of sounding like a snob (I'm really not!), as a role player that's just not something I'd want to really be apart of.

There is also a channel already that alot of RP'ers are using called roleplayers if you'd like to join in. I doubt anyone would mind people using it to coordinate.

Also alot of people have been using Quark's Bar in Deep Space 9 as a meeting place.

It's not hard to get to at all. You fly to the bottom of the Sirius sector map and I think zone over maybe once and then just select DS9 from your system list and fly there.

Quark's Bar is also pretty big and has ALOT of room with three floors in it. Not to mention it's pretty iconic for Star Trek.

ts not about being nit pickey... that base is noobville.. Its filled with spam.. outside the fact that the zones have limits.. it will be really hard to get 20-30 people onto the same instance because of constant overflow..

if the point is to get people in the same location to RP.. wouldnt it be best to use a place that is more condusive the the situation, vrs everyone and there brother that could care less about RP?..

Its hard enough to go there and meet up with 5 freinds on the same team... I cant imagine how hard it would be to get 20-30 people not grouped into the same instance..

They're actually both right, just in different time zones. :) PST stands for Pacific Standard Time, while CST stands for Central Standard Time. CST is Two Hours ahead of PST, so 8:00 PM CST is the same as 6:00 PM PST.

I hope that explains Time Zones for you :D:cool:

A Brief Update on my situation: I just got STO today (OH YEAH!!!!! :D), but the game seems to freeze up as soon as I finish with the Tutorial. I warp out to head to the Sol System, but it then sticks on the Loading Screen!! :(

So, I want to attend this event, but if that particular problem is not resolved, I might not be able to. So, you should probably organize another get-together, but this one should be on the Forums for those who can't make it to the game thanks to Technical Difficulties. :D:cool:

They're actually both right, just in different time zones. :) PST stands for Pacific Standard Time, while CST stands for Central Standard Time. CST is Two Hours ahead of PST, so 8:00 PM CST is the same as 6:00 PM PST.

Brief Update: It seems the trouble I had in getting to the Sol System last night was probably because there were so many people who (like me) only just got STO yesterday that the server just got overloaded, because I got there just fine this morning. :D

So, I should be able to make it to the gathering--I live in Colorado (MST) so I should try to get there at around 7:00PM my time?

Just let me know where to go in-game tomorrow, and I'll do my best to be there. :D:cool:

I'm pretty sure Epsilon Fleet, or at least a few members, will be trying to attend.

A word of warning. We tried to organize a small Fleet gathering in the Lounge at SB 01 back in beta. It's kind of a logistical nightmare. First you need to form a team to try and get folks into the same instance together. If that doesn't work you need to "Change Instances" to the one everyone is in (if they know themselves). On top of that the instance cap for the whole of SB 01, including the Lounge, is 50 players. 50 players who are mostly not involved in whatever you're doing there but are helping to max out the cap all the same.

Lastly, and this was the kicker, the instance number will change by itself! We started off in Instance 9 and ended up in Instance 54 or something without anyone ever leaving the place. So we were telling folks to meet us in one Instance, Instance 9, and and were then being told it didn't exist or was full!

And this was a small group of about six to ten that trickled in over the course of an evening. A larger gathering is probably logistically impossible. That's why I had been going on about the need for mirrored static instances, with discrete pop caps, for the Lounge in General Discussion before.

I'd say still try it and see what happens. Either it works out better for this gathering than it did for us or all the more people demanding our version of a Pocket D for centralized RP get togethers.

I'm very glad you folks had a good time. I definitely plan to try out some RP on this game. Being a long-time MMO player, I've never really dived into the RP elements beyond a little moment here or there. With STO, I think I'll go a little deeper.

I hope that a continuous RP develops. Like somewhere you can go with a reasonable expectation that RPers will be there. I don't know, maybe Risa or Vulcan. If they ever make Starfleet academny explorable, it would be perfect. Alum visiting their old haunt, etc.
